    I have been sound desinging soooo much in the past month and Vital is amazing.
    Kicks: using a normal eq (I like neutron elements 3) try to make sure you don't have much going on around 12k and above. Also check that your fundemental frequency is not too much below 70hz. Also, try to use some bell eqs to look around the 300 hz area as that is where you can either make it super punchy or super ugly.
    I haven't done many snares but I recommend using your samples in songs and tweaking them to make them perfect as you listen in context with the rest of the song.

      Wow. I have always gone with the feel of the sound. Guess I should really start being aware of these numbers.

      @@adk_studios For sure, you should always go by the feel of the sound but I have noticed patterns recently

    Pls keep the phase random at 0%
    I always keep monophonic sounds at retriggered phase if it doesn't use unison. For snappy sounds like synthesized drums, you SHOULD keep the phase random at 0%
    Vital and Surge allow you to do this.

    Don't forget, vital is basically the free version of serum, so technically you can make any sound in vital that can be made in serum.

    • @adk_studios
      @adk_studios  Před 3 lety +10

      Yep. Pretty much.
      But, it does lack on the filters and some effects.
      At the same time, it has some stuff that serum does not.
      For all that is absent, there are workarounds though

  • @0Lm0nk
    @0Lm0nk Před 3 lety +2

    Thanks for the video but it would have been really cool if you could have explained why you were doing the steps that you did for the snare like you did for the kickdrum..while you were doing the synthesis and explain the sound design process especially while setting up the LFO envelope's time parameters and then applying them to the filters and the compression. I reckon it would be useful and handy to also check the waveform on an oscilloscope and a slightly bigger free spectrum analyzer plugin like SPAN to better see the frequencies. Any reason why you didn't place the EQ on the FX chain before applying distortion? But overall good content mate. :)

    • @adk_studios
      @adk_studios  Před 3 lety

      Oh... Sorry about that... I usually do the beginning portion of my vids in super detail, and speed after the middle of the portion, mainly because many ideas are taken from the first and try to avoid redundancy. I'll make sure to focus on the points that you have given in the comment. Thank you.
      And about the EQ. If I place place it before distortion, then all the audio frequencies will not reach distortion module. I wanted to distort it without loosing any of that, and then clean it later if necessary

      Actually, this video was made in response to a request to sound design these sounds with surge.
      The thing with surge is, its not visual, which makes it harder for beginners to understand.
      Also, Vital's sound feels better. Just compare the FM synthesized sound

    Another reason for retriggered phase on single voice oscillators
    Not only does it make your sound consistent, it makes it easier to mix.

    what is your opinion about waveform free

    • @adk_studios
      @adk_studios  Před 3 lety

      I have been testing it out.
      To begin with, it has better automation than cakewalk. Makes it a better option for EDM. And also some neat little tricks that can only be found in waveform (in my opinion). For instance checkout 'rack' in waveform. Makes it proficient for interesting possibilities of layering.
      But too many crashes! It might be because of my system. I didn't loose any progress in the project though. But it takes away from the flow of the creative process. Waveform is a bit demanding on the system. Probably because of the UI, which I really like.
      To avoid that, I tried freezing the track. & that resulted in way too many inconsistent changes in the UI. Like freezing a track also froze its submix which it was contained in. (A submix is kinda like a folder & bus at the same time).
      The freeze synth option in Cakewalk is soooo much better. & I need it as my PC can't handle that many synths at once.
      If it was not for this reason, I might have used Waveform even more...
      Even though the automation in Cakewalk needs to be improved a lot, I'm sticking with Cakewalk...

    • @adk_studios
      @adk_studios  Před 3 lety

      You can either directly drag and drop it into the timeline.
      OR
      Install a sampler, add it to the project. Then drag and drop the sample into that. Then we can trigger those samples by adding MIDI in the piano roll.
      I prefer using Sitala for drums, and grace sampler for something that has pitch (like 808 or trappy hi hats)
