I've cried to this song. No; I've SOBBED to this song. This song has broken me, many times. I first heard it in America last year and I was just shocked. Since then I've probably listened to it about 400 times, no word of a lie. I love everything about this song. I love the chords, I love the melody, I love the WORDS oh my goodness the words break me. I love how there's no real structure, so the song itself is like a story, or you could say, novel ;D

Dear Dodie and Rusty,
During this year I fell into a deep depression after a massive argument with my verbally abusive ex boyfriend.
Shortly after that my gran died and my dad who left me since I can remember came back into my life.
I had and still do have huge arguments with my family, usually ending up with me hiding in my bathroom.
Last month, I was willing to completely end my life. I had over 20 pills in my hand. I had wrote a letter to everyone who had ever made an impact on my life, good or bad. Telling them how sorry I was in this letter. After all my family had went to sleep. I began to cry, and I realized how much I had impacted certain people. In a bad or good way.
After hours of endless tears I opened my phone remembering how much I loved your voice. Then I saw this video and noticed the title and appearance deeply intrigued me.
Less than 30 seconds in I was in tears again. I ripped up every letter I had wrote and put the pills away. This song made such an impact on my life and lives on my phone so whenever I feel sad I can come back to it.
On May 24th, I met you Dodie. At London Comic Con 2015.

I used the song in my theatre class final, where I wrote a monologue about a girl at her first loves wedding, where she stood up and asked him why he chose that other girl, it ended with me dancing to the last lines and then singing the I love you's tot he audience, I made my entire class cry and my teacher called it brilliant and then gave me a lead, all thanks to this song. TheLivingNightmare 16 Ups and downs. Luckily, the downs are now only on the shallow end. The company I work for closed last month, so I'm looking for a job again. With my experience, it wouldn't be that hard to look for another, but the stress of getting to know everyone again and starting from scratch seem a bit daunting. I am however looking forward to a new routine and if I'm lucky, I'll be able to see sunrise again during work (been in a graveyard shift for 4 years). It's good to be excited about the future. Thank you for asking. Hoping everything's well on your end. :)

I wonder how hard it must have been to restrain from bursting into tears because this is your favourite song, you probably listened to it so many times when not feeling well, or feeling great... It's 12:22 at night as I'm writing this comment. Last 24 hours have been kind of rough, so I sat down and went on to CZcams to keep my mind off from overthinking, to escape from my problems a bit, with the company of a cuppa. I gazed through my subscriptions and saw the thumbnail, clicked without even thinking, knowing it's going to be good. 15 seconds into the song, I've started to feel a tide of feelings rushing through. This immediate overwhelming feeling filled my veins, my thoughts, my entity. Turns out what I've been running from, facing my emotions were broadest way to relief. And you two helped me a lot.
This five minutes were the highlight of my day and definitely one of the greatest five minutes of my 23 years long life on this planet.

Listening to this makes me think of Indie movies and train tracks, of walks in forests in autumn, of leafless trees and of lazy Sunday afternoons with nothing better to do than absolutely nothing at all.
Whenever I get overly anxious I always come and listen to this song. It's so soft and beautiful that it just calms me. My chest stops feeling so tight and my hands stop shaking, I get that reprieve that I so desperately want. This song is reminiscent of Tennessee nights sitting in my loft bed, tears streaming down my face like the raindrops down my window. Tennessee nights sobbing in a crowd of people I didn’t know, gripping their hands in mine while seeing this live, not knowing these strangers would become my best friends. Sitting in the front steps at 2am watching airplanes with a cup of tea. Lying on the floor up my bedroom with paint on my thighs and crying over who I was years before and how badly I wish I could tell her she’d be okay. Walking downtown wishing I had friends I could meet at the café. Cooking at 4 am and pretending I could interpretive dance. Belting these lyrics out whole sobbing under the covers like my nearest neighbors were miles away when they were really on the other side of my thin apartment walls. This song is full of pain and happiness and passion and nostalgia for me and I thank you for that.
I love this song. My daughter introduced me to it when she sang it at an open mic night. I cried like a baby and I tear up every time I hear it. She lives a long way from me now, so i dont see her often, and this song helps me feel close to her again.

Bramble Bean I'm so so so sorry for your loss. I spend my whole life in a constant state of anxiety over what I would do if one of my best friends died, and I can't even begin to imagine your pain. One thing I've always lived by is this: "Don't spend too much time mourning the deceased. Instead treasure the wonderful, happy memories they gave us and embrace the person they have made us become." I'm not going to say things like "I understand" because you're probably sick of hearing that, and also I don't, I don't really understand, I cannot empathise properly. I have only ever really lost one person close to me, my favourite family member, 3 days before my tenth birthday. You've probably heard this a thousand times, but it will get better. I promise. Of course there are going to be days when you don't feel like anything, too consumed by grief, and that is 100% okay. After what you've been through, you deserve that time to get yourself back on track. I really do hope you're okay.

I know this video was uploaded ages ago, but it's still one of my favorites on the channel. Something about this song with Dodie in the mix is absolute magic. I love Rusty's original version, but the version with Dodie will always be my comfort song.

The simplicity of ye two just pouring your emotions out in song sitting in a hallway is breath taking! I think it's the rawness of this recording I love most, it's so rare! You don't hear it in studio recordings and tbh it's missed...
