Yeah, when I saw that title I thought, "Oh, damn. If I did that my parents would disown me!" Honestly, though, I think more people need to realize that, especially in this new evolving society, college isn't as necessary as you think. It may be for some people, and maybe for not. For some it may even be a complete waste of time.

Actually, most people will need to go to college or some kind of trade school to be successful or reach certain socioeconomic levels. It’s not a coincidence that as a whole, those with only a high school diploma or not even that, occupy the lower socioeconomic levels. There’s nothing wrong with dropping out to focus more on CZcams, unless you don’t have legitimate and realistic plans since every CZcamsr’s views eventually drastically drop.

I started at community college after being out of high school for a few years, I didn't attend college straight after. Not only was this a great decision economically, I learned how to enjoy being a student again. I think that the best thing that high school graduates can do is wait and figure out what they want to do first before jumping into the next step. I do not think that it is fair for people (adults/parents/guidance counselors) to force teenagers to make a major life decision (attending college). You all are still growing and the human brain is not fully developed until the age of 25. Gap years and discussions about other options than directly going to college right after high school should be discussed more.

I too went to a community college, but straight out of high school. I went to a middle college got a scholarship to continue on at the community college for 2 years, which was great for me bc I couldn’t afford to go off to school even after when the scholarships would cover. I now go to UNC on a full-ride and honestly have saved up so much money and know that I made the best choice.

This! I have been telling kids at my church that you do not have to attend college if you're not ready or interested. College is a huge investment and if you don't want to go, you're wasting money. If you need a year, take a year (or however). Kids at my church have been forced into thinking that college is the only way to go when it's not. You can be successful without having to go to college.
@@ldive i can't speak for Breyia but for me it was easy for me, the only thing that was tough was probably my parents opposition because they hated cc and had so many misconceptions about it. My first year i saw cc as "okay only 2 years then i can transfer to my dream school" but things change, it was so much different than what i had imagined. Financially/Mentally cc is such a smart decision! You save a lot of money but you also knock out the general education requirements so that when you transfer to your 4 year, you can go straight into your major related class. I highly suggest going to a cc, don't look past it for sure!

In all seriousness, thank you so much for this video. I took a gap year after graduating high school last year and now I still don't know if I want to go to university. Like you, my passion that I already make money from doesn't require a degree and is seen as impractical. I just don't want to waste years at university when I could've spent that time pursuing my dream and being mentally in a better place. There's a saying I think about a lot. "The graveyard is the richest place in the world because that's where dreams go to die, inventions that weren't created, books unwritten." I'm really struggling with this. Like you, if I don't go to college I'll have to find a place to live on my own etc. I also have the mentality "tomorrow isn't guaranteed". I don't want to wait to pursue my dreams and then by the time I'm done with college it's too late. It's hard, I understand. I also worry that I only want to go to college for the social aspects. Yes, I want to learn, etc but at the end of the day I really don't know if that's enough to justify me going. I said I would go this year and see if it's for me. Then again if I end up dropping out I'm still in a bunch of debt. But maybe I'll go and I'll really love it and learn. Just wish I could see the future and go down both roads simultaneously so I know which one is right for me 😂
You and I have the same issue. We want to enjoy every aspect of life whether it’s pursuing our passions or traveling the world but don’t have the freedom, monetary resources or the support system to back us up when we NEED it the most. I attend an HBCU as well and yes the social aspect is wonderful but if you’re depressed half the time, you can’t enjoy it and I’m a witness for that. One day we’ll have the life that we dream and pray for. For now, we just have to deal what we have, work towards what we want and try to look at things in a positive light. Keep up the great content girl 💕

the way i see it is, you get ~content~ for CZcams from the college experience. It's an experience that everyone is interested in. Also once you get that degree in three years (which in less time than it may seem) you'll have something to fall back on. You can't predict the future and you never know if CZcams could just be like "aight y'all we out" as many social media platforms do. But getting that your degree is just something that is so helpful to have under your wing ~just in case~ and if you even get to use the degree then that's a bonus! Why not do both? Get that degree AND slaughter the CZcams game. You're potential is endless. Stay strong Kai. I love your ambition!! ivanah lol I’m A Scorpio too and I understand where u coming from. Social media isn’t guaranteed. TBH college isn’t the only way to be successful and happy in life. Everyone has their view of college. I feel that if your trying to be a nurse, a doctor, business, teacher, anything of such than yeah you need a degree. But just being an artist, photographer... than no. That’s more of a talent.... but that’s just my opinion... Ik people who have a full ride to college and major in photography, music, dance or arts.
Having a degree doesn’t mean you’ll get a job out the gate either I know people who still work minimum wage jobs with degrees because they haven’t gotten a interview or anything

We are lowkey so alike it’s weird lol?? this past semester, I was just talking to my friend about dropping out bc I was so unhappy and I never feel like I have time for my craft (writing, and creating in general). my lack of financial stability is really what’s keeping me in college (going into my third year) and what’s holding me back from pursuing what I know of love doing and taking a leap, like creating videos, even if it means I won’t be happy for a while and that’s hella depressing. I literally hate college but because I need it as a clutch, I still go. I’m not doing it for anyone else but myself. I’ve literally wanted to be a CZcamsr since I was like 12, but was always too scared, and I still am.
I’m jealous of everyone who is able to take the leap and do what they love doing. I wish I was that brave, truly. I know it’s not too late for me, I’m literally only 20, but it’s scary 😪

@@jackien404 Im at Albion College, it's in MI. Actually, I've always just struggled socially because i never felt like i really fit in. I grew up in a predominately white school, so i guess u can say i adopted some of their culture (which made the few blacks that did go to my school think i was white/boujee/whatever) yet i was raised in a black household and many people at my hs were racist, because of that i didn't hardly any friends and as a result, a little socially awk. /shy. HEre at albion is a lot better than hs, but because i don't feel comfortable at social situations it deters me away from approaching people first and going to parties(which almost everyone goes to parties). I will say though, i have been approached a lot more here and had people try to talk to me and that's the only reason i have any friends lol (': so u might have a different experience. not to talk bad about my school but i gotta keep it real.... albion still has had a few racist incidences...last year someone at college kept putting a kkk sign outside of a freshmen black kids door(they eventually found them) and also, the school is expensive af' and they have loopholes to make u pay. 10:30-10:55 I relaaattteeee coz I'm going to college and I just want a college experience living in dorms since I've done it before when I was even younger. My family expects me to follow a law-path even if I loove music. It breaks my heart that my happiness is compared to "growing up too fast" or "acting independent" and "going astray" I don't wanna be stuck in the cycle of compromising to the point where I compromise my entire life. I respect my mother's advice but to a certain extent she only expects her wish and not my need. Despite the fact that we can learn so much on our own, they fear letting us go so much so that we lose ourselves in their protective arms. You resonate so much and I need to hear this TODAY coz I broke down more than twice today for this.
I hide my depression well because I don’t want anyone in my business. But when someone noticed the other day, I completely broken down. Life is supposed to be happy and free while being stable. College isn’t that for me anymore. I’m on a new path. This is my last semester and from here on out... my goal is to be happy again. I miss the happy me.

Kai..sweet Kai. I've followed your journey since high school and I've always been so amazed and proud of the young lady you were and the woman you were growing to be. Don't feel sad or discouraged. I think there's so much pressure for teenagers to immediately go to college right after HS and that sometimes is not the best option.
In high school I was honestly a shitty student. I had no passion for learning, no goals, no motivation. I know you were a great student...but I'll get to my point in a second. Anyway.. I went 13 years after HS working job after job. I always said college wasn't for me. I went back to school two years ago and started off small at a community college where I got my first degree. I was an A student, graduated with honors, Dean's list etc... it took me yeaaaaaars before I was mentally mature and ready for school. I'm not saying you have to wait that long. But sometimes we just aren't ready and thats ok! I now have a passion for learning. I love school. I care about my grades and the work I produce. I know if I had done it as a teenager or even as an early adult, I probably would not have been able to make it. It's ok to take time off to grow and figure out the world and life.
I'm now working on my second degree and then plan on attending law school next. Maybe college isn't right for you right now. Maybe later it will be. Maybe it won't be. Just do what makes you happy and proud of yourself. Only you truly know what's best for you. Keep your head up. You're so smart and strong. I wish I was half as strong and level headed as you at this age.

Prisca Hermene hello! I’ve learned in my almost 3 years at being at Howard that college itself really is what you make of it. Howard feels like home now for me and the environment is a very accepting and loving place. I’d definitely say give the campus a tour before you decide to fully transfer, but I believe that if you visit and you like the energy and can visualize yourself succeeding and thriving in that environment then it could be an excellent choice. There are also a lot of transfer students who come to Howard and love it. It’s honestly what you make of it. I’d say definitely give it a tour though, Howard could change your life for the best.

The college experience is one of the most expansive and liberating experiences no matter what you do; meet a ton of people, study abroad, take classes you want to take with some of the leading minds of the day, the capacity to explore so much with so much support in so many dimensions is unparalleled. It's a limited window. Don't miss out on it. I haven't heard you say anything that you want that wouldn't be ENHANCED by college. What I do hear is depression and that can distort our perception of reality. I'd recommend taking 6 months off to seriously deal with that with intense cognitive behavioral therapy and maybe even meds. But I'd go back to college because it is fertile ground for developing what you say you want to build. And there are greats schools in Chicago you could attend.

i’m 24 and i graduated college a year ago and honestly i regret it 💀 i did a whole video on it on my channel. my degree was in communications & really all i wanted to do is post production (specifically editing) which never required a college degree. now i’m in tons of debt 🙃 do what’s best for you! your happiness comes first.

Kai at the end of the day you have to remember that you have to live your life not others in conclusion, do what makes you happy and not what society draws out when it comes to ideal happiness and how to achieve it .

girl i felt this so much. i don’t even do youtube or anything outside of school besides work pretty much. i’m majoring in pre med and my grades my second semester of freshman yr weren’t great. i’m just feeling very discouraged and my parents don’t help me pay for school so i have to keep working even tho that’s why my grades are bad. :/ the thoughts of going back next semester just makes me so anxious and depressed
I can relate. I've had a full-time, decent paying job and my own place also had a loving relationship I was still depressed security does not equal happiness. the job was mentally draining and made me miserable! you can't put a price on peace of mind; however while college isn't the only way, it is something great to fall back on. maybe get your mental health in order and go back to school to hone your craft later on. a degree is the equivalent of a hs diploma nowadays and it can just get your foot in the door sometimes, but definitely respect your decision because it's your life! xoxo
i feel you. i used to be financially struggeling but i was the happiest ive ever been. and now, i have more and my family isnt struggling anymore and we have so much more, but i wasnt were i needed to be mentally, its hard to understand how to be happy. but i just realized that you cant controll a lot of things in life and just stay positive dir the things you have, also, you have to figure out whats the negativity in your life to make yourself happier. for example, i had a bestfriend who was SOO negative, i was so depressed for almost two years. i didnt know why and then i realized, the reason i was depressed was because i was surrounded by negativity. as soon as i cut her off, i have been happy ever since. what im trying to say is, find the negativity in your life, and if possible, cut it out of your life.

Do what YOU love, I feel like it’s triggering for older people because they wish they had the mentality this generation does to follow what we love in life no matter what the money is but for our own health. It’s an opposite world lol college = success no college = failure
I don’t think you understand how much I felt this. Being in college comes with its own added amounts of stress, and if you aren’t prepared mentally to handle it... it will literally consume any ounce of mental health you thought you had. FINALLY someone who also agrees with my views. my parents are “that’s life people” and at this point i’ve just completely tuned them out. i’m only in 11th grade. I agreed with everythingggg you said bruh
I definitely understand and relate to this. I’m in a masters program and I thought I would be so happy, but then depression hit and now I can barely hold on. I feel like a zombie most days, but I can’t quit because my family depends on me.
First I needed this. Everyone needed this. I am now a rising senior. College and going to a 4 year college or a 2 year college has been something that’s been very hard to decide. I love sports and basketball and football and you get that at a 4 year college. But my school is small and I have gotten us to the small feel and I don’t like people but I love socializing and being around people. My passion is animals and along with that is CZcams. I want to go to school to be a veterinarian assistant but that’s 6 to 8 years of school and I’m at this point where I’m ready to be done with high school and school in general. Four of my older siblings have already graduated high school. They don’t know what they want to do, an I am one of those people who are blessed with parents and a mom who is open and supports be with whatever I decide to do in life. I want to start my own business because I don’t want to have to sit at a desk one day and do something I am not happy with. I have so much creativity and talent. An I have two mentors in my life who both didn’t go to college and they worked there way up and are both now very successful and have there own businesses and are millionaires and living comfortably. This whole video hit from such a understanding place. I still have people at my school who talk about college being the “right path to take” and saying what happens when CZcams isn’t here. I needed and loved this video, it is so raw and true and what people aren’t talking about. I hope that you find your Happiness again and you are able to do what you want and makes you happy!! 💛

I’m 21 and I only went to community college for a year. I didn’t know what I wanted to do and I felt like I was doing it just because that’s what you’re “supposed” to do. I moved out at 18 and 3 almost 4 years later I don’t regret it. I have a nice job now, I just finished a certification program and I’m working on getting a better job using it. It hasn’t been the easiest thing but I don’t want to live my life just striving to make money. What you’re saying about wanting to be happy makes so much sense. I’m happy with my life and it’s a good life. Were so influenced to believe that money and career success means happiness. And we’re encouraged to look down on people who don’t focus their lives around their careers and financial success.
Hi Kai. I have followed you from the very beginning. I am an HU grad c/o 97 and yes i will agree with you that Howard is a catch 22. You have attend class in order to enjoy the social aspect of the university. I wished so many times that if i could only live in the dorms and enjoy my friends and become apart of the Howard community and not have to go to class, my collegiate life would have been perfect. However, it is not designed like that. As an Alum, I see now that it was also the struggle and team work that I had to be apart of that will truly give me the full breath of knowledge if what i needed to know. Now, 22 years after graduation i can honestly say that it is the degree and everything that comes with it that has made it worth it for me. A Howard degree is full of bluster and grander that it deserves because people like you are are holding the mantel to keep our beloved HU the shining beacon on the hill. Howard doesn't really become Howard until you walk across that stage. when you complete that, for the rest of your life people will be impressed by what you were able to accomplishes. You talk about the social aspects, Imagine that there are people going through college and don't even have a social aspect to bring forth doubt. You are at the Top HBCU. we are hoping, or at least I am hoping and praying for you success. HU c/o 97

I miss Illinois even tho I was only born there not raised. Besides that, thank you for talking how you're not happy. Some people it's hard staying outloud to themselves that they aren't happy or it takes them awhile to realize things about their mental health. I also have depression and it fixking sucks. I understand how it feels when normal tasks throughout the day feels like an accomplishment when to other people it's not. Last semester there were multiple times it was so hard to take a shower. I still remember the day that my boyfriend came to visit me with his younger siblings but I didn't take a shower in 3 or 4 days but I didn't want them see me like that so I had to drag myself out of bed to take a shower but I thought of them so that helped but after that day it went back to not taking care of my hygiene. Anyways, I hope things work out for you... for the better mentally and physically. You got this

Girl I’m about to be a senior in college and I feel the same way! I wish I had the courage you have.For anyone who is younger than me, I say trust your gut. Our parents grew up in a different time and don’t understand the digital age and how profitable it is. It’s your life! They’ll be mad, but so what? What’s more important, how you feel or how they feel? And I totally get still being supported by your parents because I am. But I think taking time out to work on what you really wanna do is important. If there’s a will, there a way. Thanks for being so vulnerable because so many of us feel like this.
literally just finished my freshman year of college at syracuse and i could not relate more. from seasonal depression (which is so real) and being a minority at a pwi- this year was rough and my friends were the only things that kept me. hats off to you though, because i’m not brave until to leave until i really can’t afford it lol
Oh my goodness!! I live in a small town and we were pushed and pushed to go to a uni and who didn’t has been like “shunned” in a way. I cannot express the HAPPINESS I feel that I waited 2 years to go to a community college knowing exactly what I want to do and I honestly feel like a kindergartner going back this August I’m more then ready. Moral of the story do what YOU want. Take your TIME. Money isn’t everything but happiness is like sis your mom is paying but you’re not stuck and don’t let her make you feel that way.
Yooooo this one hit harrrrd. I almost dropped out Sophomore year in College. Basically finished out of societal pressure. I would say though I'm glad I have a college degree bc people be judgemental asf and I think it's good when you have CZcams or another backup plan that's taking off than trying to quit college cold turkey. I also related hard-core to the emotional neglect. Like my parents could literally buy me too much material stuff that I don't even need and make me feel emotionally miserable and humiliated. Glad you are thriving and doing your thing. You definitely have the skill and talent for this CZcams thing.
Am I the only one who loved when it started raining harder, like it just felt for personal and peaceful
