I'm incredibly impressed by the fact you allowed yourself to be emotionally moved by this song. Most men would hide that. That tells me you have deep humanity in you. Music moves me like that, too. I tear up every time I hear this song. Thank you for being real. This was an outstanding reaction!

This show was in Boston where Berkeley School of music is, and all of the orchestra and the singers behind them are students from that school. DT went to school at Berkeley back in the day.
    Cool...😎

The lyrics in the last part are some of the best and most utterly truthful lines I've ever read. John Petrucci (the guitarist that wrote the lyrics to that masterpiece) is just a genius. Such a humble and nice man too.
For the next songs you should listen (there are so so many):
Heavy: The Glass Prison, The Dark Eternal Night, This Dying Soul (live at Budokan)
Instrumental: The Dance of Eternity, Stream of Consciousness (live at Budokan), Erotomania
Epic: Octavarium, In The Presence of Enemies both parts! (live chaos in motion)
Ballad/mellow: The Spirit Carries On, The Best of Times (best solo ever trust me)
A mix of everything: Breaking All Illusions,Metropolis part 1, The Ministry of Lost souls
They have dozens and dozens of truly incredible songs and a large discography with 14 albums.

Must hear dream theater more often. DT is one of THE most technical and sentimental bands I know. Listening to their music is more than just listen, is feeling and enjoying high quality of music.
    Some must listen songs:
    The Glass Prision
    The Count of Tuscany
    Octavarium
    A Change of Seasons
    The Best of Times
    Whole Metropolis pt2 album
    And all other songs :D

  • @mtaffer
    @mtaffer Před 4 lety +11

That's a keytar! There are a lot of "inspirational" songs on this album. "Surrender to reason" is lyrically almost religious and there are references to "grace" all over this album. Another song I love on this album is "The Bigger Picture". I get chills at the end of it.

  • @nexuslang
    @nexuslang Před 4 lety +8

Yes!!! Ever since I saw you react to The Shattered Fortress I said to myself, "wait until you react to Illumination Theory from the same concert"... and here you are! Glad you enjoyed it as much as I do every time I see them (I've seen them live like 11 or 12 times, I lost count!). James Labrie's voice live can sometimes be off, but he killed it in this concert. And don't get me started on my idol John Petrucci...

Man, that’s awesome that you’ve been preaching that suffering/joy idea. It’s funny because when I first heard this song, I was one of the ones who thought that line sounded too cliche, and was stated too plainly. But over the years I came realize that not every line needs to be spiced up with metaphors and subtlety, and now I love the line as well

How are you feeling? Another of my favorite CZcamsrs disappeared for a month and turns out he was fighting for his life in an ICU in Serbia with Covid (Bald and bankrupt). Here in Iceland only 10 people died from it but sadly one of them was a good friend of mine.

This was fun and amazing, bro. I love the lyrics of the song too and I can definitely share a similar testimony.
"To really feel the joy in life
You must suffer through the pain
When you surrender to the light
You can face the darkest days
If you open up your eyes
And you put your trust in love
On those cold and endless nights
    You will never be alone
    Passion glows within your heart
    Like a furnace burning bright
Until you struggle through the dark
You'll never know the joy in life"
    Beautiful!!! 😭🤟🏻❤

    Fall into the light
    The ministry of lost souls

Just to say, wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments about looking back on negative events and moments in your life and reframing them into something positive. It’s hard to realise it when you are in that moment and the thick of it, but it’s true. And now that I do realise it, I’m more prepared to shrug off negative moments in my present with an “it could be worse / ah but it’s not as bad as that time” attitude. Appreciate your videos and I sincerely wish you well on your journey.
