If Jay hasn't seen WILLOW, how about a movie reaction?
I've been scratching my chin all morning. I've been trying to figure out why this willow trailer hit so hard. And you nailed it! You guys really nailed it! That's what we've been missing, that hopeful fantasy.
Agree 100%. The real world is hot garbage right now and I'm feeling pretty bleak. Hopeful fantasy sounds lovely.
There seems to be a bit of a pendulum swing right now that people want wholesome and fun and not everything be dark gritty anti hero.
@@liashea1330 For reals. I don't need my entertainment to remind me of how grim things are.
@@DP-nl4uq I've always been a big fan of stories where the little guy (no pun intended. LOL) triumphs over the big evil. Maybe that's just me though, LOL.
Exactly! The last few years had been fueled with anger and hate, and our music, literature, and movies has been the result. Need more like this!
I was a child of the 80s. Along with films like The Goonies, TRON, and of course Star Wars, Willow was my go to weekly rental from the local video store. I've always felt this film was criminally underrated. For me this was both Warwick Davis's and Val Kilmer's best work. i love this film and I'm SO happy this show is coming. it looks amazing.
Nice! Same here man, Loved being a 80's kid.
I'd add Legend & Labyrinth to that list as well.
@@brandothecatmeow As well as The Neverending Story.
Willow and Labyrinth were my childhood. It’s oh so good to be back in this story.
I'd love to see Labyrinth return.
Throw in Legend and you have my ultimate 80 fantasy trifecta
2 legendary old gems, you have great taste in movies !
I spent an enormous portion of my childhood wanting to be Val Kilmer’s character Madmartigan from the film. I am ready for this!
I can’t wait for this show, you guys should do a watch along for Jays first time watching the original Willow
Yes, that would be so much fun! I was surprised to hear that he hasn’t seen it since it’s right up his alley. He’d have so much fun and, by proxy, so would we!
I came here to say just that!
yes please
Another vote for this!
You have my vote...
When the theme went all in at the end, I lost it. Weeping like a baby. I'm so excited for this!
SAME! And when she said "The world needs your magic again." I just broke down sobbing. Because it's so true. I can't wait for this.
You completely nailed it about why this has made all of us so emotional, we have been sorely missing that hopeful fantasy and whimsical adventure. I cannot wait for this.
WILLOW was EVERYTHING to me as a child. It was the FIRST movie I ever saw in the theater (I was 4.) I've seen it more times than I can remember. I even had the NES game. Just the theme song made my heart swell. It's just like Adam said, it's for everyone. It's a fantasy that's pure and heroic and good. There is evil to be thwarted, there is just enough tension for a kid to get nervous but still know that the good guys will win in the end. And yes...the pigs are always going to be scary. Raziel transforming into all of those animals is still mildly disturbing. But if a 4 year old can watch it and still love it 34 years later...it's something special.
Slightly older, but same love for the movie. And I also had the NES game.
And they brought him back. They didn't recast Willow. All the chills
Vohnkar makes an appearance!!
That game was HARD as a kid…
I was about 8-10 years older than you when I saw it. I want to say I was 12 or 13. I had the soundtrack as well and I know it in my heart still. This movie is one that can easily be overlooked over the years, but when it shows up again, you always get that feeling of movie magic. They did something special with Willow.
Jay watching Willow sounds like a video that needs to hit CZcams.
I'm not ashamed to admit I squeed like a little girl to see this bit of my childhood come back! Of all the remakes from the 80s, THIS is what I'm excited about!
Adam’s reaction is the best I’ve seen so far. Didn’t know I needed this, but oh my godddd it’s literally stunning! I was born a whole decade late and yet the emotions swelled
I’m just glad I wasn’t the only one tearing up during the trailer!
As a child of the 80's, this... Yes Please! There is such a long list of films from that era that really sparked my imagination and Willow was right up there with the likes of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The Dark Crystal, Goonies, Labyrinth and so many others from that time in my life. What a treat to have been able to see all of these films in the theater.
Willow has a special place in my heart. It was the “senior ditch-day” from my high school. My friends and I decided to hit up the movies, and we watched Willow together. A great movie, and while I doubt Val Kilmer will be in it, I’m still emotional thinking this is going to happen. It’s fantastic!
Films in the 80s had a positive, adventurous spirit that seems like it was lost over time. Just about any attempt to bring it back meets with my approval
Also, If Jay is gonna watch Willow, please, PLEASE get it on video. I have GOT to see his reaction to it.
See....Willow was a big part of my childhood .and through the trailer I was like...ok! Ok! And then.......the music came in and....my eyes started tearing up.my childhood kicked me square in the face.I'm very excited!
This looks amazing. I gasped at the brownie and melted at that tiny glimpse of Kiaya. I had a bird named after her. I'm just sad Val Kilmer won't be returning as Madmartigan.
He honestly isn't well enough to do it. I'd rather he was out than try to do what he did in The Snowman.
@@jkfecke Agreed 100%. I should've said, "I'm sad Val Kilmer can't return" as "won't" implies he wasn't asked or turned it down.
I think he should rest people still like him his health is more important
I love Willow. (It came out late '80s, by the way.) I love how it takes its time to get going. If it had been made today, the producers would've been terrified of making the audience wait for so long before the first full-fledged action scene. And I love the score by James Horner. And that fight at the end at the castle is really pretty gritty for a PG movie.
I'm looking forward to this. I know aesthetically it won't be the same. (It's going to have the more smooth TV-series look of the streaming era, than the "real location" film look of the original movie.) But as long as they bring back the James Horner themes, I think I'll be good with it.
Thrilled to see Joanne Whaley return as Sorsha. I wonder if we'll see Elora and Cherlindrea in here, too.
Pretty sure Elora is one of the main protagonists.
I'M REALLY GLAD I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO TEARED UP!
The big difference with Willow over all the other fantasy series on their way is that the others are based off of mythologies that were cultural zeitgeists. GoT, LotR, etc. are going to be put up against what came before them. Willow will as well, but the weight of what the original Willow was is nowhere near as heavy. For 90% of people who even saw Willow (myself included), the film was a, "Yeah, I love that film. Super fun and whimsical." but there are very few, "This movie was my everything! It was my Star Wars/Lord of the Rings/Game of Thrones." It doesn't cause fights within the fandom about some silly aspect that people don't agree on. In a way, it's a lot like the Dark Crystal series from 2 years ago. Fond memories, epic scope, but a lack of fanatic ownership. Makes for easy viewing and enjoyment. I have high hopes for this.
Adam, that was one of the most adorable reactions I've seen from you so far.
I remember watching Willow, but I was more into The Dark Crystal and The Last Unicorn. Even though they scarred my younger sister for life, lol! Strange how many dark "children's" movies there were in the 80s.
Add labyrinth and you have some of the best movies of that era.
I loved The Last Unicorn. And Krull, Hercules (Lou Ferrigno), Clash of the Titans, Legend, Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger.
@@nikil3441 lou Ferrigno the OG hulk that guy is very wholesome I met him once nice man
Jay, you must see Willow...FIX IT!
Maybe another discord watch along...?
I absolutely LOVE this movie. I named my first child Elora... Super hyped for this show!
Man, that definitely looks like they are based on the books that followed the movie, Shadow Moon, Shadow Dawn and Shadow Star. They start out about 12 years after the movie and are an excellent read.
Finally, someone else who remembers!
You HAVE to record Jay watching the Movie Willow….PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
I had the same reaction "Oh yea Willow." And by the end I was a little teary. And now its my mosy anticipated show. I'm right there with you Adam.
I loved watching your expressions during this, Adam's quiet joy and Jay's slow-building awe. The original was one of my favorite movies as a child and still is, and I can only pray that this turns out as wonderfully as we all hope. ♥️
Adam, you aren't the only one to get emotional watching this, I LOVED Willow growing up and I can't wait to see how this show goes, really wish I had gotten a reply from Warwick about maybe being an extra but no joy XD
Early 80’s fantasy was my childhood. This brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart.
I was born in 87 and my dad was a huge fantasy/SciFi nerd, so I think I'd seen Willow before I even started forming memories lol. And wore our VHS copy right out throughout my childhood. The emotions hit me straight away with this trailer, I realized how long its been since I've seen it, but how much the movies still just a core part of my whole self
Dude I grew up watching Willow many times and got super emotional as well
I've never seen _Willow_ (gonna be honest I thought it was Star Wars/Ewok related) but seeing Adam's reaction + the mention of that specific fantasy pie, of which not many slices are served nowadays... I think I'll check it out sometime.
We have to have Jay's reaction to the classic film before the series hits! I wanna see the genuine reaction of a first time viewing while I cry along with Adam 🤣
Yeah this one came out of nowhere and if you had told me a little bit ago that they were making a Willow TV series, I would've been fine with it, but not compelled to watch. The original was a core memory for me as a kid, but I honestly thought I had moved on. Until I saw this trailer. I've seen so many reactions on my social media of people tearing up and crying after watching it and no one having any idea why. It's like we all just had collective repressed memory dredged up and shown to the light and are just overwhelmed by the feeling. It's great and everything Adam says about how the tone of this feels like something we've been missing in fantasy for a long time is on point. Plus the fact that it's a series I hope will allow the world that started in the movie to open up more and we can revisit and see what we've been missing. Ack! So excited!
So, this is definitely a teaser because they gave no peak into the backstory of what happened once the Witch's daughter and mad mordigan raised the chosen child(Laura) together.
I think the original actress who played the Witch's daughter was in there, so maybe we'll get some exposition from her on what happened to Mordigan. Did they have their own kids together?
Did he die? When and how?
I know Val Kilmer is not well, so I doubt he'll make a cameo appearance.
I did notice, however, that a few og actors returned as well. His bestie and his wife....I adored Wilow's relationship with his wife.
George has known Warwick Davis since he was a child. How awesome is it that George brings him back to where he made him a breakout star of his own...outside the Star Wars world. I don't think I've seen him in anything after the Harry Potter series.
He's ages graciously.
I’m not super old I just barely turned 18 but when I was younger my dad showed willow to me. It just left such an imprint on me and I’ve loved it ever since. So I’m hoping this series is amazing but from this trailer it looks exciting!!
This was my favorite movie as a kid. Every weekend I would rewatch this movie on a VHS.
I fell in love with Willow and Warwick Davis after seeing the movie for the first time when I was 6, It really seeded my love of everything Mystical and Adventure based stories from the Starwars/Goonies movies to LotR/Dragonlance/Dark elf books and now being a avid D&D player since the age of 13 (38 now). I was on the edge when I heard this show was coming but had my heart put to ease after seeing an interview with Warwick and the pure passion he showed for his character and story. Whether its reliving magic from when I was young or what ever the drive maybe I can not wait to see this.
You hit the nail on the head, Willow’s just pure fantasy and didn’t take itself too seriously. It was lighthearted and fun, but still had high stakes and hit all the right emotional beats. Literally what I’ve been missing the most from fantasy shows these days.
I was 13 when this movie came out and it was dead center in my wheelhouse at the time. I've watched it more times than I can count. I raised three kids who all watched it in their normal rotation of VHS tapes (along with Labyrinth and Dark Crystal). That was a movie that is still quoted around my house...when my wife "talks" for a cat who is trying to get me to pay attention to them she does the "Dada dada dada" voice of Ranon calling after his father near the beginning of the movie. I'm saying it's a keystone film in my house. I forgot that this series was coming and the Teaser looks great. I love the newer story look with nods to the old movie (Cherlindrea's wand, Sorsha with her sword, James Horner's original score). I'm getting hype.
Willow came out in 1988 and when it was available on VHS Tape me and my sister used to watch it allllll the time. So seeing that world again, a few decades later? Sign me up, my body is ready. 👏👏👏
I’m not an 80s kid but I grew up on this movie, my dad introduced me to it when I was little and I used to watch it all the time and so as soon as I saw this I showed him too. I can hardly wait for the series to arrive.
I would LOVE a watchalong of the movie from you two!
I've been crying all day long 😭 Late to The Party had me bawling earlier and now Adam.
Now I have to catch up with their reaction, too!
@@Luneowl Yes! I love them ❤
I really loved Willow growing up. Its even better getting to share it with my kids now. My earliest movie is watching this movie at my Grandparents house with Grandpa. He always showed me some amazing movies when I just a kid. Some really great memories.
I want a fun, rollicking fantasy adventure, and this looks to fit the bill.
I am looking forward to this too, it really was a touchstone for me. I do sometimes think I have forgotten it, like I will watch the movie again like the first cold night in October (its only like an hour and a half long) but then I start thinking and no, yes, I remember a lot of this.
You know what I especially love about this show in particular: I have no idea where it's going. It's not a prequel, so no one is plot safe; it's not based on books that I know, so no hardcore fans are gonna be pissy over meeting (or not) expectations (looking at you Wheel of Time); it's a NEW, FRESH story that is not just a reboot but a continuation. Reboots are great because of the advent of filmmaking and special effects technology, but that's ALWAYS going to be the case; we'll have reboots for the rest of our lives. But keep doing this; give us fresh stories.
For me, Willow was a touchstone film of my youth, it came out in the summer of 1987 and I was nearly 13. I can recite the film word for word! Very excited!
Your reaction, being hit so hard by this trailer, is pretty normal I think among people who had any emotional connection at all with the original movie. Because of what you mentioned - the unique kind of fantasy it presents - and also because... who the heck thought this would EVER happen? I didn't even really think I wanted a sequel, because I didn't think it was even on the table. The fanbase for the original movie, some 35 years later, is tiny. I've never really even heard anyone else IRL talk about it.
But I watched it a lot as a kid, with it being in the permanent rotation of 20-25 movies we had around the house. And seeing that trailer today, out of nowhere -- the music, the first shot of Warwick Davis, the scenery... I got a little emotional myself. Hadn't thought about Willow in years.
This is going to be a great series if the writing holds up; it has everything else working for it in my opinion.
As soon as I saw this trailer come out I pressed play so dang quick! Had the same reaction as Adam. Didn't expect to tear up, but I did. Not even 2 minutes later, my brother texts me the link to the trailer with "OMG DUDE YOU GOTTA SEE THIS!" lol
The music set the tone off the jump and sent me back to a kid. I can't wait for this!
loved willow as a kid, mad martigan was awesome to watch, the perfect cross between Aragorn and captain jack sparrow.
Willow came out in 1988. I watched it so many times in my teen years. This teaser gave me chills! I'm so excited!
Love your comments 🤣 Adam’s enthusiasm for this is brilliant with Jay being dry as ever.
Btw, I’ve never seen Willow either but will watch it now.
Man watching Adam's face of pure joy while watching the trailer was so wholesome
I’ve never seen Willow and know pretty much nothing about it other than the pig scene. With that said, it looks like a lot of fun, and it fills me with so much joy to see Adam get wrapped in so much happiness!!! Woo woo!! What if fantasy was … REALLY WHOLESOME!!!
If the show brought back the original actress who played Willow's wife, I'll be a puddle of man tears.
And Warwick's giving some serious "Guy Pearce" face.
Oh man, that moment where Willow turns around gives me goosebumps every time.
Warwick Davis was only 17 when the movie came out. So seeing him here as the older mentor figure of everyone else is giving me feels.
Jay....I feel so bad for you my man....You get yourself a well earned rest man. We will all be here and ready to cry, laugh, and gasp with you when you return. Sleep well tonight.
I can't wait! I LOVE how high fantasy it looks! and I LOVE that our Willow became a full fledged wizard since we last saw him!!
Rewatched Willow a few months ago and was surprised, but pleased, at how well it holds up. Hope Jay gets to see it before the new show starts. Warwick Davis looks amazing.
Man I still remember watching this with my Grandfather. I have so many good memories of this movie, I really hope they don't mess this up.
Willow came out in 1988. I was 10 years old and saw it in the theater!! Such a charming movie!
I am the right age to have grown up with Willow, loving it and its world, and owned the vhs and later DVDs of this movie. My reaction was somewhat similar to Adams. I was just smiling ear to ear after this dropped. This is my most looked forward to bar none.
I was surprised by my reaction too! You know what it was? It was that freaking score at the end. It triggered the shit out of me and all the nostalgic feels hit me all at once.
No shame in tears guys. Willow is one of my all time favorite movies! It holds a very nostalgic place in my heart as well. Totally an 80's kid here so Willow, Never Ending Story, and Dark Crystal were prob my favorite childhood fantasies before I even knew it was a genre. Sure I later discovered The Hobbit and LOTR, sure I enjoyed GOT (before the disastrous ending), but Willow will forever hold a special place with those others from my childhood. Just like I'm sure you felt, that score really hit my inner child pretty hard. Unashamed joy because that's what it did for us as kids, it brought us joy. While I'm always very skeptical of properties dear to me being resurrected for fear of the original being tarnished, I admit this series looks like it just might do the original justice. That final shot seemed a tad Fellowship of the Ring-ish but I'll keep an open mind. I for one thought Netflix did a great job with the Dark Crystal follow up so here's to hoping. Also for any other bookworms out there there was also a book trilogy written as an official sequel I thought was pretty good. Its called Chronicles of the Shadow War.
you MUST do a reaction/watch-along of the movie with Jay. PLEASE.
I am so happy that they are continuing this amazing story. I started tearing up and got goosebumps.
That last shot, with the characters lined up....I just said to myself, "That's a D&D party! This is a D&D adventure!"
Not sure if you all noticed. But during the trailer there is a fairy noise. That same fairy noise is the noise the fairy make in Ewok Asventures when the girl catches the fairy in her hands.
My life NEEDS a reaction video of Jay watching the Brownie scenes in the movie Willow! PLEASE make it
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who cried tears of joy after watching the trailer!!!! Willow was a movie I enjoyed watching so much when I was little!!!
Your enthusiasm and emotion is awesome. First time viewer here.
After rewatching Willow as an adult I wrote this little poem:
True Story
Enchanting tales
with heart and charm,
sympathetic characters
and the journeys we join them on.
They may belong to fictional worlds,
but they help me believe
in this one.
Warwick Davis is always a +10 and worthy watching on his own.
Adam, I love you so much. You're so engaging with such real reactions. I love Willow and can;'t wait for this show too! Keep up the great reactions!
I would love to see you both react to the Willow movie before the series comes out. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time.
Loved Willow as a kid. Now i have to watch it again, before the Show releases. I am so happy with that trailer
I fell back right into my childhood, and I LOVED IT
So incredibly excited to get this series. Willow has been a favorite ever since it came out. I'm old enough that I saw it in theaters. Still packs an emotional punch for me. Always will. It was and is my second favorite fantasy film (Legend is my first).
George Lucas, Spielberg, and Ron Howard were the creative team behind the original, which was ripe for expansion.
I want this show, like, right now! And until yesterday, I didn't know I would!!
Adam I had almost the identical reaction you did. The Move was something my Kids and I watched together and enjoyed. The series looks fantastic.
Willow movie reaction from Jay! We need it.
Willow is one of my all time favorite fantasy movies. This trailer made me cry.
I was so excited when they had that trailer a while back with the cast! But i got chills when i heard the theme song and the actors voice over narrating it! Who i think is one of the original cast from the movie!!!
I watched Willow back when it first came out. I watched again a few years ago... it just happen to be on TV. I'm excited for this, too. I didn't know they were bringing it back. I think I should watch it again before November 30th. The cast and the production quality looks amazing. This is gonna be the awesome taste of fantasy world that we're gonna need to end this year on a high note. I wonder if they're gonna bring Val Kilmer back to make an appearance.
This may be the best fantasy show coming out. People better not sleep on it
Saw Willow at a drive in when it came out. Amazing fantasy story. Ageless. This is a wonderful surprise. 💖
I missed my window of watching Willow as well. Need to see it now. Definitely would watch this over the fanfiction show of Rings of Power.
I'm hoping to god that this hits the fans as hard as we want and gets others to go back and understand why we all love the original movie so damn much! This is a lot like the black crystal show, it was so good and actually got me to go back and rewatch the movie and actually appreciate it.
Willow’s realm of fantasy is a near neighbor to Princess Bride, throwing in some Harryhausen creatures along with just a hint of ‘The Black Cauldron’ villainy.
The Brownies are back!!!
"I stole da baby!!!!" 😆
1/1 Stolen Babies on their Way to Becoming an Empress
You guys truly nailed it. Willow just makes you happy!
I LOVED this movie as a kid...I know Val Kilmer can't really make it back, which is really sad, but I'm glad this is coming back. Just like Adam is saying, this is gonna be fun.
(And it was Annihilation, Jay -- Adaptation is the Nic Cage movie in which he plays his own twin) :)
