Mark Hollis was a fascinating, principled man. A visionary and a genius.
Can't wait for you to get into the next Talk Talk albums, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock. They are masterpieces.
My all time favourite song, no argument, no doubt. Just the perfect song. Mark Hollis was a creative genius.
(Bless you!) A track new to me. Very powerful number. The singer's voice is so filled with emotion, it just grabs you. Thank you, Daniel, for once more giving us great music to listen to.
Nobody like Talk Talk. I advise you with all i have to bath in their last two works of art! 🐚 🦋 🐋
The amazing Mark Feltham on harmonica
"The bass is amazing"
Kudos to Paul Webb (still in the music biz under the name "Rustin Man")
Talk Talk were essentially a three piece band, but by the time of the "It's My Life" album onwards were renowned for using a host of session musicians of the highest calibre. This would involve extra percussion players, a guitarist and two keyboard players to flesh out their sound both live and in the studio. I mention this purely for the remarkably talented harmonica playing of Mark Feltham, whose contribution to this song is, along with Hollis's soaring voice the undoubted highpoint. He stayed with them for their final two albums of breathtaking beauty and Hollis's solo venture creating sounds that were crucial to Talk Talk's metamorphosis into a band like no other. When you're done with this album, please continue to the end of their short career, otherwise you won't get to experience what was Mark Hollis's grand design from the very start! Peace and transcendence through sound.
Christian Adams....Your comment is so well expressed... Talk Talk needs to be heard in entirety, but also chronologically, to grasp the journey.
@@acoustically9201 Many thanks.
You were wrong they were a four piece band the keyboard player left after the first LP.
The Colour of Spring is in my top 3 albums of all time; a position it’s held since it’s release. Glad to see you’re falling under Mark Hollis’ spell, too. 😊
There is no sound more beatiful than a Hammond and a Leslie.
That haunting organ was played by Steve Winwood, a musician with an incredible creative achievement over a lifelong period. Composer, songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist.
Wow, I had no idea. I was aware of other keyboardists working with them (such as Ian Curnow) but didn't know that Winwood also did.
I knew Traffic and Steve Winwood as a kid, and I honestly think that’s what drew me to this. I recognized the organ.
Mark Hollis was a big Traffic fan, hence Steve Winwood.
It sounds familiar and exotic at the same time. This whole song was really great on every level. The melody was captivating. Great reaction.
I saw Talk Talk open for Elvis Costello in Gainesville, FL on what I think was their first US tour. It was clear that this was
a special band. It's a shame that we lost Mark a few years ago. P.S. You should react to "The Party's Over" and maybe the
song "Talk Talk" from their first LP (1982.) Keep up the great work Daniel!
Everytime I hear TALK TALK, I know I am hearing something very special, an amazing and important band.
Absolutely perfect song!
Listen to Talk Talk's "Wealth", the most beautiful song ever gifted to humanity 🙏
Wow…never heard of this band before. I’ve been introduced to allot of new music by your subs and it’s great good fun! I’m going to check more into this band. Great production, arrangement and musicianship.
One of my favourite 80s bands alongside the Thompson twins and Simple Minds and this track is one of my favourite 80s songs. It still sounds as fresh now as it did when the album dropped.
Daniel: You often ask for recommendations, but then (always) you somehow find music that I wished you'd experienced. Talk Talk is a great example. As ever, thrilled that you've found this stuff. Hope you like this as much as i do. My best as ever/ And that sneeze was so human. Happy Spring!!
I suggested he start this album, so all praise will be warmly received! 😉
Awesome album , start to finish. Could not figure out why this band was not bigger ..
They were massive in Europe and sold well in America, but the fashion fixated Brits were late to the party. You can also thank the deaf critics at NME, Melody Maker, Sounds and Record Mirror for stalling their early progress. Thankfully justice was to prevail!
What a Voice!!!
Pure Quality.
Year his amazing ❤
Bless you! Great harmonica, piano etc...Excellent, especially for the 80's, not my favorite musical decade. In my humble opinion so much music seemed to be over produced in that time period. Anyway...
Thanks Daniel., nice review!
This whole album is absolute top notch quality!! Such full sound, incredible vocals. Life's What You Make It & It's My Life were my first exposure to this group, but I quickly started discovering more of their brilliance!
Future songs to check: Talk Talk (absolute MUST!), Today, Such A Shame, My Foolish Friend...for starters.
RIP Mark Hollis
After I Don't Believe In You comes this one as my favorite off the album. It's very similar. Just exceptional. Sorry you sneezed:)
One thing that should get mentioned more when discussing Talk Talk is their use of key changes. Not a lot of "pop" bands do that. I've always wondered if it was a way of accommodating the chord progressions to Mark's vocal range. They can be fairly dramatic in certain songs, because they don't usually build in TT's music, they more or less come out of nowhere.
God Bless You Daniel.
There are so many great TALK TALK songs
One of the most timeless bands of the 80s, I think. Great music, intelligent lyrics, great vocals. Tears for Fears and Depeche Mode are two other fantastic 80s (and still going) bands that I think you’d really enjoy.
I literally LOL'd when you went down the 'Blah blah blah, same thing I say in every single video.." road. I was wondering how long it'd be before you got to that point. I love listening to you break down songs I've grown up with.. Keep on doin' what you're doing -- and don't be afraid to change up your into. 3... 2... 1.. Keep havin' a great day! :D
Bless you, and nice retake.
(Production team will take care of it in the edits, I'm sure. 😉)
Thanks Daniel. This band only got better and better! :-)
A child of the 80s, I like this album, but love a prior one, It’s My Life-which is VERY 80s. :)
very enjoyable. thanks
Mark Hollis RIP up there with the greatest composers in my view ❤
Dankeschön
Prince did the cough (Raspberry Beret video), now you do the sneeze.
Are you 👌OK? I don't want you to get sick again.
Love Talk Talk! My favorite song of theirs is "It's My Life". You should check it out! Thanks for this reaction!
It's My Life - czcams.com/video/cFH5JgyZK1I/video.html
Hi Daniel. Once again I want to encourage you to watch the VICE documentary on Wim Hof, or any of his yt videos, and to say that you should totally try doing what he does/teaches. Wim has not been sick one day in over 40 years, and since I started practicing his method, something that I don't do nearly as often as I should, my health, both physical and mental, has greatly improved. I'm almost normal now 😛 Seriously though, just try it for a week and you'll see, and I hope you do an unboxing again soon 🙂
Sartre - just say "Sart".
Most probably it was one of Mark Hollis typical jokes to say that the song was inspired by Jean Paul Sartre, (in the 50s a famous French philosopher/writer), mocking the one that asked what the song was about.
@@saskiakneulman7275 - That's possible, though it does seem to fit the song.
Hollis (and Webb and Harris) were disdainful of the shallowness of the whole show biz scene and the vapid questions they were always confronted with, and tended to troll their interviewers.
Not for me. Too much 80's, especially the percussion.
I had this video liked because it was a great video amd an amazing song. Until you had to say the Lord's name in vein. Blasphemy. Be professional. It's very offensive.
