  • What's better for a worship guitar? Single coil pickups for their clarity? Humbucker pickups for their crunch? In this video, I'll put two very popular guitars up against each other to find out which are the best pickups for Praise & Worship music!
In this video, I'm playing a Nashville Guitar Works 120IV Telecaster style guitar, and a Firefly FFLP Classic Les Paul style guitar. In the background is a Jay Turser JT-50 SG style guitar.
The pickups in the Les Paul are Bare Knuckle Rebel Yell pickups. The Zebra styles have to be special ordered. You can get the covered pickups here!: amzn.to/3d7Rj36

I own a telecaster with single coils and another with humbuckers, in some songs I need HH!!

What is the reason strats are not that popular if it has nothing to do with the tone? Or is it because of the bridge pick up?

I'm really struggling with what to get for worship. At my church, the worship service tends to be very quiet with just a piano, bass, a box for percussion and guitar. I find the Tele to have a great tone, but worry about the loud 60hz noise/hum I used to get with my stratocaster in the exact same church in the past. Now I don't know if to go with a Tele or another guitar with humbuckers.

I love having humbucking pickups. What are you playing through? Are you using an amp and pedalboard or a modeler? Most modelers have a noise gate which gets rid of the hiss and the hums. The struggle picking a new guitar is real. There are few guitars as versatile as a Tele, but I prefer the sounds of humbuckers. I find my Tele to be quite noisy. What is your budget?

@@BudgetWorshipLeaders I'm using my strat through an old Fender Mustang modeling amp. The wiring and lighting at my church seem to not play nicely with my single coils. My 3 most used presets are all very clean and I still can hear the hum pretty loudly. I want to go back to music only for the purpose of serving the Lord this time around. So I'm very serious in getting a dedicated instrument that can "do it all" fairly decently. I've been saving up for 4 years. My budget is about $2,500. A bit more of I sell my current strat. I'm leaning toward a PRS CE 24 and a Fender blues Jr amp. Then I can add a modeling pedal and probably be set for most situations. I've just never dabbled with the Kemper, or any other modern all in one units like that. I've been an analogue pedal user my whole life (simple overdrive, reverb and wah).

I've never played a PRS guitar that I didn't love. The tones are very versatile and the playability doesn't disappoint! As far as the amp, I would keep in mind the setup at your church. At one church I serve at, there is a mic'ed Blackstar 1w tube amp that a couple of the guitarists use. I use a Line 6 Pod Go. Because this church uses in ear monitors, the difference in stage volume isn't noticeable. If you have an isolation setup for an amp so you can get the tubes warmed up without blowing out the first few rows, than it would really work. At my home church, we have floor wedges, but the church is very small and my lead sound tech will not have an amp on stage because he can't control the sound output from it. The modeler really comes in handy for that situation. Just some food for thought

You just need to run through a noise gate. A simple Direcr InputI box can take care of the hum and EFI. TELECASTER clean tones are wonderful.

Hey bro. That killer sample music sounds awfully familiar 😉

I'd love to hear them in the context of the sanctuary space... G*d prefers to buck the hum, I bet! 😉

Actually the single coils are typically more popular in the PDub world. Next time I use my Tele in worship, I’ll make sure to include a video.

@@BudgetWorshipLeaders I actually prefer teles myself.

I love my Tele but I don’t play it that often. The shorter scale of the Gibson style guitars just feels better to me and I prefer humbuckers. But every time I pick my Tele up up, I think to myself “Why don’t you play this more often” because I love the tones I get from it. Especially with ambient stuff.

I don't currently have any P90 guitars to review. If I find one that speaks to me and fits the budget, I'll definitely do that review!
