    I use 3 drive pedals ( with 1 specifically set for the Bridge Pickup ) = Barber Gain Changer SR > Fulltone OCD > Thorpy Fallout Cloud. I can mix and stack to achieve: Santana, Gilmour, SRV, Zeppelin, or Van Halen tones. Pickups Lollar Dirty Blonde's. Amp' 65 Fender Princeton Reverb & Yamaha THR30II.

    Nice video. But I have to disagree a bit regarding string gauge. Rick Beato & friends did a great video on string gauge, and the resounding consensus was that 9/42s sounded the best. (Link: czcams.com/video/wGXj_NQONYM/video.html.) However, I do make one small concession in this regard. Even though I use 9/42s for all of my electrics, I replace the 9 with a 10 on my single coils. Also, keep in mind that, because of the effect of the Fletcher Munson curve, what might sound good at room listening/playing level will sound very different at louder live church settings. So a pleasing level of brightness at bedroom volume will sound harsh & brittle at live volumes.

    • @SamWittek
      @SamWittek  Před rokem +11

      Thanks for the feedback! I too watched this video and I have a couple thoughts. They did use a les paul for that string test, and the consensus that the lighter strings were "better" mainly came down to the fact that they cut better. With my video centered around single coils, I'm more addressing the fact that single coils naturally can cut TOO much and be overly thin, as opposed to something like a les paul which doesn't inherently have that issue as much, and providing some solutions that can help thicken up a single coil. Definitely a bit of an apples to oranges comparison. Appreciate the thoughts though!

    How do you feel with the hum that comes with single coils? Especially in high gain situations?

    • @SamWittek
      @SamWittek  Před 6 měsíci +1

      The hum hasn't been too bad with this guitar and these pickups. I've had a few instances where the power has been really bad or the stage lights have caused gnarly hum and in those cases I've tried to ride my volume pedal more, switch to the middle pickup in more situations, and make sure I have ground lifts enabled. Hope that helps!
