It reminds me how much I miss my old windows millennium pc. I loved having all of my albums available at a click. The paint program was a lot more fun than I would have though.
I wouldn’t be mad if someone took the old computers to keep since that preserves and saves them, but when people just ruin them for no reason, I absolutely hate that.

Can't even remember what it was but it was a big undertaking to repair. I never found out what was wrong with it and it later ended being e-cycled. It lived a long time though.

Judging by the BIOS beeps, that computer is not operational at all, and would need significant reseating of cards, motherboard cleaning, and lots of other stuff to work properly again. Plus, the HDD is probably dead.

I've accessed 20-25 year old HDD, they don't usually magically die. While improbable, it is possible that some of these machines didn't even have a HDD. Floppy drives do tend to have issues though. MB probably has plenty of dust that should be cleaned off, but that usually wouldn't prevent the machine from powering on. Reseating the cards and chips is not a significant issue. It is possible that the MB or one of the cards, including video card, could need to be recapped. CMOS battery is dead and hopefully didn't leak all over the MB. I think many of these machines had switched to using coin cells but don't recall if they changed that then or waited until after Pentiums were released. I'm not sure how durable the CRTs are, but the desktops probably have VGA on board or VGA cards.

Chances are the CMOS battery has died and the BIOS has lost its settings, the power switches in these old PC's were mechanical and cut off power to the entire system.
My first experience with a computer was around 5 years old. We had a 66 mhz family computer in the 90s. Then came the pentium 233 in the late 90s which I used to play the hell out of some diablo 2 and starcraft.

Smaller one was my jam our room. The silly FREE AOL TRIAL SOFTWARE DISCS ARE STILL THERE! Dusty, but no scratches; flipped on over & no dust. They look BRAND NEW! I wouldn’t quite call that “still working,” lol! It’s throwing an error for a missing or failed graphics card. Rest of the computer may still work though, if it got far enough for that error.
I know taking computers isn't a good idea but you really should save the electronics because if you don't they probably will end up destroyed by vandals😢

@@RedTroPcI believe the connection will hang after some time anyway, there should be some timeout. Remember those modems were quite unstable anyway.
I believe it's a decay prevention measure. Power means stuff like climate control, which helps clamp down on moisture, mold, etc.
