He's the kind of guy you would pass in the supermarket and have no idea that what he wrote is practically the backbone of the entire internet.
Yeah that is wild. His home and work desk is no different than most people.
Yeah most core routers and switches and/or also servers used for virtualization are running Linux as a core platform.
and with the internet it effects about 99.9% of all people on this planet these days
Don't see it that way. Thousands of years ago, a simple man discovered fire, that was the base of the next civilizations. Every little step to progress is made everytime. Maybe these days internet is a very important thing, but a hundred years later, that would be just like fire compared to what we have now.

This guy deserve a Nobel prize.
In just 3 decades, Linux changes whole world in astonishing way
The only reason why he doesn't have one is because the Nobel prize doesn't have a section for Computer Science/ Software engineering.
@@Scriabinfan593 or math, surprisingly... Fields medal is the next best thing but you have to be under 40. Mathematicians are arguably way cooler and more creative than Nobel laureates, but get almost no recognition for their work.
@@Scriabinfan593 He is still not awarded Turing Award though, which is the highest distinction and equivalent to Nobel in CS.
sir this is absolutely true
Well think of it this way, Nobel made his prize to encourage others of his field for something. That's just what he did. Other groups of people can come up with their own prizes and awards systems. But also maybe people like Linus don't want anything, and as for mathematicians, I don't think you're wrong. I haven't heard of anything contemporary in mathematics full stop.

He is an amateur. I myself do all my solitaire playing from terminal windows and watch youtube by reading the binaries of the video files themselves. I don't even have a mouse. I do all my photoshop retouching and video editing with C comands. People say they look like garbage, but I can't tell because I've never seen them myself. Torvalds is living proof that most developers could give a single flying crap about RGB and aesthetics.
Most of us don't really care. BUt, I must say, I took the leap on my current build and It's a nice touch. But, "nice touch" is all it is.
Aesthetics, yes. RGB, no (except the keyboard, I don't know how to touch type so i do have to glance at the keys and seeing them in the dark helps).
@@badsubtitles498 even if you know how to touch type, there are some keys that you only need once in a blue moon but always being able to see them is great.
