besides how awesome your painting skill is, your mustache remains on point. Thanks for these great videos
No worries mate, I'm glad you enjoy them. Thank you very much, I usually spend a few minutes before each video making sure it looks proper lol
Yes thank you 🤩
No worries mate, glad you enjoyed it!
Necrons are the only faction the missus likes! Cool video! 👍
They are cool looking army and quite fun to paint. Is she painting up an army atm or are you going to paint up an army for her?
@@jwminiatures She wants to have a go but I'll do most of the heavy lifting but that's Ok shes going to buy her own minis and I'll get to paint them! Nice change from my Wolves.
You should recommend a void dragon, not sure if its good in the new rules but its a cool model lol
@@jwminiatures I'd love to paint one but I'll start with something smaller (and cheaper) to get her started. Get her on the plastic crack and the rest will take care of itself Mwahaha! Maybe she will stop complaining about the pile of shame....ell the part shes seen anyway!
Once you get them hooked they will be in the same boat. Together you can build a bigger pile of shame
Very nice, and on point!
Thank you buddy
Came here from instagram!
Cool cool, welcome in!
So I already based my Warriors and Immortals using Ruinlord Brass mixed with GW's Air Caste Airbrush thinner (you just pour it in the Ruinlord Brass pot until it fills up tp the seal that keeps the stupid flip caps on). I learned the ratio from Seige Studios.
Starting from Ruinlord Brass, where would you start from? Nuln Oil and Agrax? I noticed there is a subtle tint of a reddish brown on the box art, but I found the new Reikland Fleshshade too weak. I do own Dwarf Flesh, but I also have Dark and Light rust wash from the Vallejo Mecha range.
FYI, I also have Burnt Iron, Steel, Dark Aluminium, Aluminium and Silver from the Vallejo Metal Color range and I pre-ordered a bunch of the Wave 2 Xpress paints (I pre-ordered Demonic Skin since it falls between Fyreslayer Flesh and Goddess Glow, but after looking at the swatches Tanned Skinn has more of a reddish brown...maybe the Agrax Earthshade will tone down the pale earthy purple?)
When you dry brush the Metal Colors, is there anything special I need to know? I'm not used overbrushing paints that are that viscous...and of course I have Golden's Titanium White...damn it...however I do I have Pro Acryl's Transparent White, I wonder if that will work with a little Flow Improver?
I think Reikland Fleshshade would probably be quite close to Dwarf Flesh, if you want a bit more red in there you could mix up a colour with some Carroburg Crimson. It will add in the red you are looking for or if you want something a bit darker and maybe not as red, Druchii Violet could be an option.
When it comes to overbrushing the metallics, its very similar to dry brushing but instead of removing most of the paint you just want to remove some of the paint. The metal colour range is quite thin out of the pot so you don't need to add any water to thin it down.
For the white, any white will do tbh. A bit of water added to them and they should do a similar thing, as long as it can run into the recesses it will be grand. Even if you need to do two passes to build up the opacity.
I've not tried any of the wave 2 xpress paints so I can't really comment on those but I hope this helps
@@jwminiatures So my latest batch of paints I ordered online showed up today in the mail, and it was perfect timing.
I ended up picking up some more Two Thin Coats, but before I openened them I tried Reikland Fleshade again and the new reformulated Citadel shades don't tint like they used to except for Agrax.
They shrunk the Citadel Shade Pots down to 18ml and they use the same medium as their Contrast range except the shade have less pigment. I would need to do 2-3 layers of shading. So i decided to use Fyreslayer Flesh which is a slightly browner and reddish version of Guilliman Flesh and I was very pleased.
I'm glad I came across your video regarding overbrushing Vallejo Metal Colors using the the series D brushes and the Texture pad.
I tested it on a necron warrior using Burnt Iron as the base andfollowed your xcat steps and I was surprised the thin liquid metal paints didn't oversaturate the Dry brush. I did the usually drybrudh on the texture paid in a few circles to get an idea of how much paint was on the series D and then I applied it over a Warrior Primed black and it worked so much better than using standard basing brush.
I forgot how smooth those metal colors are. I am going to have to try using a black glossy primer one day and try airbrushing them over that. I
Thanks for the advice. The Dwarf Flesh looks good too and it dries very matte. I can't wait for the Wave 2 Xpress paints to arrive. They added a new category to the Xpress line called Instense. They are very opaque and are meant to act as base colors for certain Space Marine Chapters (Seraph Red...Monastic Green...Viking Grey...hint, hint...lol)
thanks J for saying aluminium correctly ;) for the szerkahn color scheme do you think an oil wash would do something similiar? would prob have to find the coppery like color though :P
I oil wash could work, I haven't tried but I can't see why it wouldn't. I wouldn't thin it to a wash consistency though, we are aiming to add a filter over the metallics so really just a thin layer that tints the colour should enough. Hope that helps
got it, was thinking wash might be 2 thin , thanks j
