Watch out Andy, I think you're developing a reputation for being a miracle worker!!! Love this piece as well as the one you did before, you're a very creative problem solver.
Wow, many thanks for such high praise!! 😊💗🙏
More with less! The second dresser with its dark stains presented less to work with. But your courage and flexibility to overcome these limitations yielded even more contribution. Congratulations on another beautiful piece!
Many thanks!!
Andy, I love this delectable dresser! My mom and grandmother had white painted dressers, and I naturally gravitate towards a white dresser. The paint finish on this piece is sumptuous; it looks like white fondant. And the top! Against all the challenges you faced, the dresser top turned out amazingly well with that beautiful glaze! The new hardware is like a chef's kiss to the dresser. I also loved the staging done 2 ways, like a choice of toppings!
Bravissimo!
Hooray, thanks so much for this, Laura!! So lovely to hear that, and thank you for sharing about your mom and grandmother. And so glad you liked the staging options! 😊💗🙏
So happy to hear the 1st dresser is going back to its original home. Dresser #2 was a beautiful hot mess! I don't think I've ever seen that much guerilla glue used before. 🤣I learned a lot on this fable. She turned out goreous!
Hooray! Great to hear that - I did too! 😅 Thanks so much. 🙏💗
Mirror, mirror in my hand, who’s the fairest in the land? Why, you are Snow White with your gold accessories. This bureau deserves the Michelle Pfeiffer White Gold Award. You hit your hallelujah with this dresser. Thanks for taking us long.
Don't believe me, just watch! 😉 Thank you so much, this is so fantastic to hear! 🤍⚜️
You are a wizard, and surely used your magic on this one!!!!! In fact you almost had to raise it from the grave!!! It is sumptuous and elegant! BRAVO
Lol, so true!! Many thanks, Kim!! 😊🧡
Hi Andy (/Drea)! Congratulations on your sponsorship! Because I adore you so and because your delivery is so compelling, I watched every second of the ad. Now back to the fable!
Hi Gina - wow, thank you so much!! Yes, I am putting my toe into the waters of sponsorship, hoping to make the Fables more financially viable, so I really appreciate your support. 😊🙏
It warms my heart to see old, discarded pieces that seem to be well past their prime be brought back to life again ! To become useful and pretty again ! To be saved from the landfill ! I love this channel and so appreciate your love of restoration and revival ! And oh, my, these two bureaus ! Gorgeous ! Nice work Andy !
Thank you so much, great to hear!
Andy, you are incredibly gifted! I adore the transformations you made to this piece. From the extensive repairs to the use of all that glue (😂😂😂😂), you have managed to preserve the dresser's antique nature flawlessly. The colors you selected and the stunning hardware have successfully maintained its antique appearance! Antiques are not easy to repair nor is it cheap if you take that same dresser to someone who specializes in restoration. I’m so impressed with the love and time you put into each of your projects.
You are so lucky to have John. That spider would have been sucked up and out in that shop vac. I am unnaturally terrified of spiders to the point that when he ran, I’m done. Bravo to you for still holding the crown 👑 of Furniture Queen! Congratulations on another amazing restoration Andy! You truly are remarkable and extremely talented!
I’m so happy that your friends are going to keep the first piece! I bet they just love it and what you did to it?
👏🏻❤️👏🏻❤️👏🏻❤️
Thank you so so much, Kate!! Yes, the glue was FLYING around the workshop that day, that's for sure!! 😂 I agree, I'm always so grateful for John and his utter non-fear of spiders...how does he do it?? I'm so thrilled you enjoyed this one, thanks again!
The only thing I want to hear is "That is why I love them." As long as I know you are doing a job with love, these pieces DO have personality AND soul!
LOVE that. Thanks so much!
Another amazing furniture makeover. You know sometimes we "girls" just need a little bit more concealer. Nothing wrong with that especially when the end result is a beautiful glowing complexion. Kudos to you once again! ❤️❤️❤️
So true, and perfectly put! 😂💗 Thanks so much!!
The refinished dresser looks nice but I like the darker tones, and the real wood, of the other one. I was hoping you could save the wood look of this dresser as its lines are beautiful, but I have to agree with you, those dark areas were unsightly and did not look like tiger wood to me either. I certainly feel you gave it "the old college try" in trying to remove those dark areas and can understand your decision to paint it. You also did a nice job creating a wood look on the top and front frames.
Thanks so much , yes - it's always a bummer when your best laid plans...😊🙏
Oh Andy, this is beautiful! Fresh and lovely. The new hardware and shelf liner are perfect. Love x3.
Hooray!! Many thanks!!
This one had you using every trick in the book! It must have taken so much time to try to save that finish. I was thinking that it might have looked good in a pale blue, but that’s pretty specific to my decor. Another great job, Andy!
Thanks so much, Barbara!! Yes, once I realized I needed to paint, I was tempted by a light blue too...oh, if only it could be be like the horse of a different color in The Wizard of Oz...💙💚♥️🧡💛
You seem like very different people, but are you???? Loved this furniture save.❤❤❤
LOL, hmmmmmm....let me ask myself that question and get back to you....😂😂😂 Thanks so much, my friend!
I wonder if someone “ebonized” the wood using vinegar and steel wool. I love your decisions but might have chosen FSO in ebony. Of course, with that, there would be no going back. One can never go wrong with white! Oooh, the struggle looked real!
Thanks so much , and I agree about the possibility of ebonizing!
I can't remember the word, but there is a Japanese technique of torching wood to create that effect.
@@TenebarumI use that technique and you might be right. If that is the case, they didn’t do it correctly and they definitely didn’t finish the job as it shouldn’t look like that! But, it would explain the deep dark stains !
@@Tenebarum Yes! I believe it's called Shou sugi ban.
@@FurnitureFablesbyAndy it is. I just had a video recommendation for a restoration using the technique. I don't really care for it
So fell in love with previous dresser but this one really had it's issues. And again, you saved it. From what you started with, trudged through, the finish is amazing! As always, love your posts. Thank you for sharing!💞
Great to hear that, thanks so much!
You worked hard on this one! It suits my house better than the first one, but I prefer the first one.
Thanks so much!! Yes, I get that - hard to beat a fresh white-and-wood dresser. 😊♥️🙏
Is mold a thing on wood? My first thought was that the black was mold, especially the way it seemed to "grow" into the tiny pores of the wood top. Whatever it is, the final result is quietly stunning. I much prefer these new pulls on this "sister" versus the other sister's that just seem too shiny for my taste. Love Love Love this show and I look forward to each new episode! 🕸🕸🕸
Hooray, many thanks!! Yes, I too wondered about mold...such a mystery, this one!
Beautiful dresser! I can't choose between the two dressers, both are so special in their own way! Your thoughtfulness in choosing what to do and how to tackle challenges always makes me smile since I see other "flippers" just painting willy nilly without trying other techniques.
Wow, thanks so much, Stefanie! Truly appreciate that, and so glad you liked both of their outcomes! 😊💗🙏
Excellent! I'll be picking up a friend from the hospital today. Knee Replacement. I told her that after watching all your videos I felt qualified to do the necessary repairs. She declined. Oh well, I have plenty more old friends with old knees.
Lol, thanks so much! My first-ever knee-repair-inspiration story - I'm honored!! (But think your friend is wise, lol) 😂🙏💗
Agree the hardest part it leaving it to dry. I came back after 24 hours to check on a piece in the summer…and just lightly touched it to make sure it was dry. Instantly there was a perfect impression of my fingerprint. Once mostly dry this is not a finish that is easy to touch up. I eventually put more glaze on to rewet it it and removed the entire finish and did it again and left it 48 hours this time. Of course I couldn’t get it as nice the 2nd time, for some reason, as it was the first. Next time I’ll only do this finish in the winter when it’s not humid.
Yes, humidity is the worst! 😅
I have this exact dresser, purchased from a Craigslist ad for $60. You've inspired me to take it apart and thoroughly clean it out as the inside STINKS. I think I just don't have the energy to strip it down like you do. So, I'm going to jump ahead and go straight to a scuff sand and PAINT. Love your vids!
Oh wow, what a coincidence ! Thanks so much!
Wow this piece was a total mess when it came home. As usual I thought “no way this will ever amount to anything.” But also as usual, Andy, you worked your magic and created a thing of beauty. Well, magic and a ridiculous amount of hard work. I love it. I’m so amazed at what you can do. Not to mention the real star of the the channel: the storytelling. Which is brilliant.
😌 Thank you, Honey. Your support (and you spider wrangling) mean the world to me! 💗
She's a true beauty ❤
Thanks so much. 😊💗🙏
Aww! She’s so pretty!
Thanks so much !
I love it! Generally, I prefer the wood refinished rather than painted, but I don't think you had a choice with this one. And it looks beautiful!!!
Thanks so much, that's great to hear!!
She’s perfection and would fit into a multitude of homes/rooms. ✨🩵✨
Hooray, thanks so much!!
I so wanted to put chlorine bleach on all that black stuff, it looked like black mold.
It came out great and the concealer idea was brilliant!
Thanks so much!!
You, my dear, are an absolute miracle worker. It’s such a classically beautiful dresser. WoW!! By the way I love it that you rescue spiders. I rescue them too.
Thank you so much! This was a fun one for sure. 🕷️😍
I bought a dresser like this in 1980. It had a very dark finish that looked like it was to resemble black walnut, perhaps. The bit of old finish on the inside was what it looked like. It all stripped off to a beautiful oak without difficulty. I thinks someone did something awful to yours and it made me feel bad that you had to work so hard to end up with such a lovely dresser. Kudos!
lol! I didn’t see how you were going to pull this one off. So much better. It looks white and gold.
Ooo I love that!! Thanks so much. 😊💛🤍🙏
Another masterpiece, I love it, you concealed her little imperfections well and highlighted her beauty wonderfully ❤.
I think I’ve a bit of both dresser’s in me, surly we all have 2 sides to our personality. Jx
Wow - I absolutely love how you put that...couldn't have said it better myself. (And I'm definitely with you.) Thank you so much, Jacinta!
Even though you faced many obstacles with this one! You created a stunning finished gorgeous dresser! Your talent is by far amazing! Love this piece! 😊❤
Hooray!! So great to hear that, thank you!
I’m early, one hour after posting! 🙌🏻
She’s a beauty, I love white! It’s my go-to classic.
Yay, thanks so much!
Both dressers are stunning!
Thank you! 😊
Your level of attention to detail is amazing. I would not hesitate to buy any of your pieces because I would know it had been done right.
Many thanks!
Wow you saved that disaster...the top is amazing.
Yay , thanks so much, Colleen!
Stunning Andy. Thank goodness we persist with these broken down old pieces because despite what many people think they can be beautiful again 🧡🧡🧡
Lovely - couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks so much, Linda! 😊🧡
I think the second one is a miraculous save. Just the condition of the drawers would have made most people run away. I think the pulls you selected were perfect with the white color. And the top with the glaze was a wonderful solution !
Thank you, great to hear!
You tried so hard to restore that wood -- did everything you could! I think your final choice made total sense. And the finished dresser is beautiful -- though I do like its predecessor more (that gorgeous wood you restored). I'm wondering if the black was originally used to create a faux tiger oak or some other wood that was popular at the time.
Years ago, I bought a used small midcentury chest of drawers (maple I think) for about $20 and the drawer fronts were black. I wanted it to match my husband's chest of drawers that had the exact same shape but was all natural wood finish so we sent it to a professional furniture restorer. Like you, he could not remove the black -- ended up putting veneers on the drawer fronts. They've held up just fine and the 2 dressers match quite well. I guess that black paint just soaks in and is impossible to get rid of.
Thanks so much!! Wow - great story, thank you for sharing that! Yes, I wonder if someone used steel wool and vinegar - sometimes people do that to "ebonize" the wood. Adding new veneers is fantastic...maybe I will work up to that! 😊🙏🧡
You gave it your all Andy to try to save the top - you pulled out all the stops but in the end, I agree with your choice of finish....when life gives you lemons, right?! Plus - your "look-off" with Drea was hilarious...a hit of more episodes of "As the Paint Dries" perhaps??
Congrats on your sponsorship too, a sign of more good things to come. Thank you for a really enjoyable and educational video!
Thanks so much , and many thanks for the sponsership acknowledgment! New to me, but hopefully can help me to keep on creating Fables. 😊
HiAndy! Fantastic result- SHE looks lovely! A real credit to you! Andy can do anything!!!! ThESE AE BOTH SUPERB! :-)
Wow, thanks so much, Mary!! 😊
I liked this very much! Part of me thought "just let that original finish stand as is" but I get it, when you're just not feeling it, you just aren't. It almost looked like it had been charred in spots. It was very fresh and clean after your makeover. A classic white is so graceful and universally appealing. Another great job Andy! Oh and we are also a catch and release family. In fact we just had one this very evening! :D Thanks for another great makeover!
Thank you so much! Lol - I love that - "catch and release" - congrats on your very recent release, and thanks again!
They are both wonderful. You work miracles every time. I would choose this neutral. But only because that’s what would fit into my decor. I greatly enjoy watching your fables.
Wow, thank you so much! So wonderful to hear that. 😊♥️
Wow, wow, wow!! I cannot believe the difference, yet, how can I not. You have a special talent for this. Your decisions are flawless and your honesty in sharing your process is so helpful. I just cannot imagine how much work each piece is. Thank you so much for sharing and bringing us along for the journey. Your flair for role playing and comedy is so engaging and entertaining.
Wow, thank you so much!! So awesome to hear, I truly appreciate it.
Really beautiful work, Andy. You tried soooo hard to save that wood for a natural finish but in the end, the choices you made have certainly made the most of what you had to work with.
I enjoy your channel so much. I always look forward to watching your new uploads when they come out - I make a nice latte, turn off my notifications and relax with some fun content. You deserve so much more praise and attention, I wish you much success.
Wow, thank you very much! It means so much to hear this - for sure, the Fables are a labor (and a half!) of love, and so it's so fantastic to know you are enjoying them. Many many thanks. 😊💗🙏
@@FurnitureFablesbyAndy you are loved and appreciated, more than you know 🤗
So beautiful Andy!
Many thanks, Ann!
She is beautiful! Awesome job.
Thanks so much!
I’m not sure what it says about me but, I love them both! Beautiful work! And girl, your intros are epic😂🔥
I think it says you are awesome! And many thanks - that is so great to hear! 😊💗
Rich, dark and moody. Thank you, Andy. Have a great week.
Thanks so much!!
I loved them both, but my favorite is the second. Yes, most likely because of its problems and your creative solutions. Thank you for sharing your work.
You are so welcome, and thank you so much - such great feedback!! 😊💗
That’s a charmer, Andy! Your antiquing woodgrain top is wonderful and I love the way you used it on the front between the drawers. The paper in the drawers looks like it was made for this dresser. It’s a perfect dresser for a guest room or furnishing a lovely old bed and breakfast.🌸
Hooray, great to hear! I'm so glad you liked that antiquing glaze technique, and the paper too - thanks so much!! 😊🧡
I always love seeing mother dear...
🤔 Hmm wonder what she'd look like with platinum blonde 😂❣️ ..anywho absolutely love how this dresser turned out and you nailed the wood grain finish... especially after so much work ..my thoughts on the dark wood patches. On one of the drawer closeups you showed. Looked to have a burl wood grain (which Burl wood grain is a prior disease of the wood as it was growing)...and also the Top seemed to have planks of sorts. .Maybeee. just maybe whoever built this dresser used a tree that had too much diseased discoloration as to Save and Use as much as they could to make this dresser and not waste the Wood...anywho you definitely made a beautiful transformation my talented friend 🥰❣️
Wow, thank you for that insight!! That was something I had sort of considered, but you really articulated that well. So glad you enjoyed this one, and my "friend" will be thrilled to know someone is in favor of the platinum blond! 😂🙏♥️
@@FurnitureFablesbyAndy 😂😂😂❣️I'm always on Mother's Side in whatever Mood she's In...Feisty or EXTRA (my Fave) or Just getting on your last nerve she's always a good belly Laugh 😂❣️❣️
Oh my goodness Andy. You did a marvellous job. It looks SMASHING. Well done girl🤗
Thanks so much!!
You usually have me guessing what she will do???, but this time I couldn't even try to guess. What a mess you were handed and yet you put it all together! WOW!! Love both dressers for different reasons and for different locations. I thought the white one would look good in a country kitchen, even with its new pulls. Dressers can be used in so many places, dining rooms, libraries, kitchens and bedrooms too. Keep up the creating,
Thank you so much!! And I agree - the one could be wonderful in so many places. Thanks again!
“Dahling!” You are one tenacious Fabler! Watching you go at that top … you gave it the good ole college try at the PhD level!! Alas you made the right decision and I benefited so much from your journey (death march?)
She looks just beautiful - the top is genius LOVE THE CASEMENT💕
Couldn’t possibly decide between the two
Thanks as always ❣️ ( what did u think of the soy stripper?)
Lol, thanks so much!! Great to hear it. I'd love to give the soy stripper another try - I feel like it did fine with this project, but would like to see how it does with paint. 😊🧡
It looks so elegant! Your problem solving paint treatment for the top looks so good!
Yay, thank you so much!
Second and third life. She is beautiful😮
Thanks so much!
Really nice Andy
Many thanks!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Spectacular! Both look stunning. Thank you for taking us along for the ride. ❤
Thanks so much!!
Congrats on saving this piece ❤
Many thanks!
Truely lovely 😍
Thank you very much!
You did an AMAZING JOB! This dresser was the "frog " and you transformed it into a PRINCESS! The top treatment was an excellent idea! The result is GORGEOUS! Thanks so much for sharing
Wow, I love how you put that, thank you so much!! 😊🧡🙏
I love this opening skit!❤ the ‘looks’ were fantastic dah-king!❤
Yay, thanks so much!!
Lol…you r the best comedian ever. I love your stories. Also love your furniture flips.
That is so awesome to hear, thanks so much!!
Holy cow Andi! This is absolutely incredible. ❤️❤️
Thank you so much, Lisette!! 💗🙏😊
Wow, what a difference. So much better. Hard work but well worth the result. You're amazing.
Wow, thank you so much! Great to hear that. 😊💗🙏
This one turned out beautiful. I am never ready for the reveal. It's always like a surprise ending. LOL
I know you don't think you "saved" that top. But you did! You saved the whole thing from the dump. You are such an artist! I love the way you cared for that piece when most would have used it for scrap. I wonder if it was burned? It looked like the wood was burned. I had a small table with a round spot on it like that, i tried everything, just like you did, to no avail and ended up leaving it and just staining it with the ring. It has character. ;-) I think the only way to have done anything with the top would have been to remove the wood and turn it over. But gosh, what a job that would have been.
Well done, again!
Wow, so great to hear - thank you so much!! You're not the first person to wonder if that wood was burned in some way...anything is possible! 😅🧡🙏
Beautiful! 😍
Thank you! 😊
Well, you've done it again! Your videos are so entertaining, informative, inspiring and funny! I can't choose between the two dressers; they're both beautiful, especially considering what you started out with.
Wow, thank you! So awesome to hear this.
I love your video’s. I learn so much!!! The dresser is beautiful!!!!’
Thank you so much, amazing to hear that!! 😊💗🙏
I always look so forward to your videos, they are so fun! This was such a good, instructional video and the end result was very elegant! I love the hardware you choose and I agree, that black streaking looked terrible so paint was a good choice. ❤❤❤❤❤
Hooray!! So great to hear you concur, and so happy you are enjoying the fables! Many thanks, Jenny. 😊💗🙏
She’s beautiful,,looks 50 years younger!
Wooo-hoooo!! Thanks so much !!
It may have been woodgrain painted at one time. Have you tried straight ammonia? Stinky needs to be done outside but it will remove old varnish. I once stripped an entire staircase of old crackled alligator varnish with a toothbrush and ammonia and water. Worked like a charm. Try it sometime.
Wow, no I haven't - I'll keep that in mind! Thanks so much.
It turned out very nicely, however I am all about the dark and moodiness of that first one. I am one of those that if I lived alone it would be Dark Academia top to bottom lol😊😂
Ooooo...I get that! I love that look too. Thanks so much! 🖤
I am dying laughing. I have had that exact same dresser. This was before my fix snd paint days. I loved the lines on it. The dark Lacquer type stain/sealer on it was thick and crackled in some places, the drawers busted. I gave up in it. I wish I’d had your inspiration then. You are the best!
Thanks so much!!
Stunning! You are truly such a talented craftsperson and artist, wow!
Thank you so much, that is so incredible to hear! 😊🧡🙏
I grinned ear to ear when I saw that white beauty. Gorgeous. ❤
Hooray!! Many thanks!!
Creativity, talent, elegance, knowledge, technique and art... And all of them in the same person: My dear Andy ❤❤❤

Hi Andy, I like them both. Sorry you had to paint so much of the second but that was what it needed. Keep it up. Thanks, Cheryl
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful 🤎 😍
Thanks so much , Kim!!
I liked the top before you added the paint stripper but I would have gone on as well to see if I could fix it. What you did was genius. The whole piece looks amazing. Well done Andy.
Thanks so much, so great to hear! 😊🧡

What a stunning save! Fantastic job as always.
LOL, ok - LOVE that!! 😂 Thanks so much!!
Well done ❤ once again you created a beauty from a some what Ugly lol loved it x

Gosh, I just love your videos and vision for each piece. I learn something new each time that I can use with my own makeovers. Thank you 😊
You are so welcome! Thank you - that is so great to hear! 😊🧡
Andy….That was quite a challenge that turned out beautiful.
I love Fusion Casement (I used it to redo my kitchen cabinets) I love the technique used on the top, it turned out beautifully. 💕
Yay! Oh wow - that is so fantastic you used it for your kitchen! Thanks so much, so glad you like this one, Kim! 😊🧡🙏
Second comment (sorry t be a hog): Nobody does it like you do. Your videos are mood enhancers AND content-rich. The way you solved the dressertop problem was sheer genius.
Gina - you are MY mood booster!! Thank you so so much. 😊💗🙏
So much work but it's beautiful. Love how you saved the spider and I dont particularly like spiders!
Thank you so much! Yes - that spider is lucky that John happened by...😂🕷️
That was a labor of love...! Beautiful! You gave me idea of my antique furniture from grandparents... I did similar color but I love the gold in between.
Beautiful!
That is awesome, thanks so much!!
What a beautiful piece. You always overcome whatever roadblocks you encounter with these pieces. Another hit!
Wow, thank you so much!!
Turned out beautiful, but I knew it would under your work and ideals. That dresser started its life grain painted and somewhere down the line it was stripped by someone thinking it was real tiger oak. They then stained it very dark hoping to blend it, but once that original finish was removed, sadly it could not be fixed, unless completely painted and re-grained painted to look like oak again. Ive learned this the hard way in my work.
Thanks so much! This plot line sounds very accurate. 👍
I am watching this episode again. It dawned on me that I have a dresser, just a little bit larger, has a mirror, but very similar,
It came from my mother-in-law’s as she was moving from her home. It is refinished wood and very boring.
The outcome of this dresser is gorgeous and gives me some ideas!
Yay!! Many thanks, and best of luck with your piece!
Spiders…. Nope! 😬 Beautiful restore!
Lol - me tooooo!! 😅😂 Many thanks!
