But with her quality construction, she was absolutely worth saving! Come with me as I take a relaxing approach to this makeover - inspired by the "Coastal Grandma" trend, and with a dash of The Queen's Gambit, we'll refresh this little table into such a beauty, you won't believe your eyes.

I prefer the wooden pull. It is a touch of rustic/masculine that balances the rice paper. I love this! Sanding down some of the side rice paper was genius!

Andy, Heywood-Wakefield are very much still in existence having made furniture following the times.
Showing the quality of their furniture and the love put into it by the local people working from them.
When they started, you could have found members of a whole family working for them.
If you Google them you can see some of their mid century pieces going right back to much older pieces.
You might even be able to get an idea of the age of your piece.
Remember, anything over 100 yrs is considered an antique.
I'm so glad you rescued it.
I watch you from Northern Ireland, but missed some episodes, can't watch tv lying down when I'm unwell.

I grew up in a house filled with Heywood Wakefield in that pattern and am flipping a few of them, including the little sister to this table, but it only has one shelf and is wider. Love this look, love the blue pull best.

Oops...cont.....very deep teal. Stained top with dark gel stain and added teal checkerboard. Aged it all with blended dark wax. SOLD !

I painted a checkerboard table for my husband and grandson years ago. I embellished it with their favorite team colors and logos. Then I managed to find an old box of wooden checkers, original box, too. That was the icing on the cake for me. Fun project! I like yours, too. 🙂♟️

Great job! I was a bit concerned with the wash. It looks way better when finished. I am traditionalist at heart and the ceramic drawer pull is my favorite. I look forward to the update on who purchase this piece. The early american feel to the table is very evident. It really makes it a bit more updated. Something we all need. Yeah Andy!

I wish we didn’t live on opposite coasts - I’m looking for a little pretty end table to put in our entryway. We’ve downsized into a small older home and your lovingly rehabbed, remade table would be so perfect. I wouldn’t have looked twice at the table in its original state, but if I saw it the way it looks now, I would grab it!
BTW, much as I like the blue & white drawer pull, I prefer the wooden one for the way the table looks in general. I’d love to see the blue and white one on a furniture with some of the same elements in other places on the piece.
