Sterling Heights, Michigan - Sterling Heights police released video of an officer who saved a choking baby near the front of his police cruiser while the child’s family watched from the front lawn. Just before 11 pm Thursday, the officer was called to a home on the 36000 block of Waltham Drive after a 3-week-old girl choked and lost consciousness while drinking milk from her bottle, authorities said. Officer Cameron Maciejewski was the first to arrive and jumped into action. The officer was met by the family outside the home and took the baby, who was not breathing, into his arms. Officer Maciejewski is seen on video calmly taking the baby in his arms and performing back thrusts in attempts to clear the baby’s air way. When doing so, the baby coughs up the obstruction, and begins to cry. The baby was then turned over to the Sterling Heights Fire Department who transported the baby to the hospital for evaluation.

Everyone around him is panicking and the officer remains calm and in control of the situation while having all the responsibility to save a life.

I believe the main problem was a language barrier.
Yes, I fully agree, this cop was, and the responding officers, were true professions, keeping the frantic crowd of people very calm and level headed, despite the fact that the family was clearly in a state of panic, shock and anxiety. The family was speaking on another language, so there might have been language barriers too. But the officers were extremely courteous, understanding, kind, professional and non judgmental of them. Very nice to see their interaction with the community, hopefully the family will invite them to dinner and pay tribute for their heroic actions.
@Raven Lynx Why do you think they were giving him the officer a hard time as on purpose? The family was in a state of shock and clearly felt frantic, terrified, scared and helpless. The cops who were dispatched were expecting to be met by "panicking" crowd of bystanders - that's what they are trained to do, so you might not understand, but for them it's totally normal to remain calm and composed since it's part of their practice, which they probably deal with every other day. The family is not all that bad, and by no means were they trying to make life difficult for the police, they were just scared, which is why they needed help, thus the cops being called to their location. The cops are obviously better than this family at fighting crime, saving lives and mitigating traumatic events, but the family might be better at other things, so you shouldn't expect the family to react rationally to witnessing a choking child, especially if they haven't lived through it before.

In Most departments they have ethics policies in place that state Police officers are not allowed to accept gratuities other than the occasional cup of coffee from convenience stores in their patrol area. Those policies may have changed since I was employed, but I would think now with the negative public image of the police those policies may be enforced more strictly.
Even though it would be a show of gratitude towards the officer by the family for helping their baby, he would do the same for any other baby in that situation.
Gratuities might be seen as a form of favoritism or bribery by the general public for providing a service to certain individuals that would not be performed for others.
There may be certain situations that might be acceptable but they would definitely need to have it okayed by the highest in command.
Imagine them actually being normal in the vid

Wow I felt bad for the mom she literally thought her baby was dying in front of her eyes. That's gotta hurt.
Looked like she almost passed out
Her baby was dying in front of her. The officer saved its life.
I can’t even imagine. Probably the worst emotional pain a human being can experience.
It legitimately gave me goosebumps and made my hair stand up on my arms. It brought me back to being a newly young mom years ago and how just the thoughts of my baby being hurt in any form caused panic attacks. He got sick and refused to eat so i brought him into the doctor panicking, it was just a cold. The doctor kinda mocked and laughed at me for being so worried and bringing him in, that it was a " uneducated young mom mentality ". However the nurses came in after and made me feel better by saying im a good mom for even being so on edge from just a simple cold. Those motherly instincts are fucking wild, takes over completely. i have a hard time trying to understand the cases of the moms that kill their babys.
Her baby was dying because she wasn't helping
Seeing this woman this hysterically crying brought me to tears. You can tell she loves her baby so much. This officer is a hero, doing exactly what the are sworn in to do, protect and serve. God bless him.

@@abbieandaustin548 LMAO
They taught me in the military that no matter how stressfull the situation is. How much shock might go through your body, you have to keep breathing and keep your mind present. It doesn't help a single bit to panic and do impulsive things out of panic. You have to think about every action you make (which is mostly procedure you have to follow) and even if you come across a situation you're not familiar with you have to stop to think what you're gonna do and then do it.
For example there's a baby in a hot car almost suffocating. Your first reaction might be to break the glass and get the baby out. If you smash the first window near the baby the baby might get glass in their eye and you and up injuring the kid, so you have to break the glass the furthest away from the child. Somebody lying on the road after an accident you shouldn't just drag off the road because they might have a neck injury and if you crank their neck you might end up paralyzing someone.
As someone in the medical field, there is no time for emotions in a situation like this. You get the job done and can be emotional later.
Some people have nerves of steel when others fall apart into hysteria. I'm glad he was first responder.

god bless this officer. thank you so much for saving this child. a true hero. 🙏❤️👍
Excellent job Officer!! Thank you for saving this baby!!
Dude rolls up and saves a babies life in the most casual manner
Mother- *hysterical gibberish screaming about her baby*
Officer- " ok ok well shes breathing"
Edit: Wow this comment sorta got big
I can understand the mom but her familiars maybe should calm her down
Mendeleiev Libertário correct because if she’s crying and trying to help him then it can cause pressure on him, this is why you shouldn’t interfere unless granted
Most parents would be frantic. There’s a huge difference in the emotions invested vs a cop who doesn’t know the baby.
Yep! My first choked several times when he was small. He choked on really soft things you wouldn't think could get you.
@Poo poo Dealer you misunderstood, I was pointing out how calm and casual the officer was
That dude was cool as a cucumber 🥒
What is getting upset going to solve? Nothing, so you feed off the adrenaline dump and focus. This man is a smooth operator.
That's what I expect from a police officer. If you can't keep your cool, don't do this job.
They aren't robots. You can be a good police officer and still get keyed up in situations. That adrenaline and fear keeps you alive but he had the presence of mind to know that in this particular situation it wasn't needed and he switched it off. Imo it's something you either have or you don't and not having it doesn't mean you can't perform the job it just really highlights those who do.
@@Corbeau_Subtil *That come with experience*
I wish I was that cool 😎
A good mama right there 🥺 I felt so bad for her
WONDERFUL......BABY SAVED,THE OFFICER IS SO NICE AND KIND.🤗
If I was a mom and that happened to my baby I would FREAK OUT
My son started having seizures where he would blankly stare off, go limp, and stop breathing. Yes, I was freaking out. His look still haunts me. Luckily his dad was here who knew CPR, and a home health nurse the next time. It’s crazy how time goes slow
most normal reaction for sure.
All mother's would...nothing extraordinary
Same
The media: I’m gonna pretend I didn’t see that
This is years old, I watched it once before a long time ago. It’s back I. My recommendations. I’m sure it’s made it’s made News when it was fresh. You weren’t watching. Now you are on CZcams, which counts as media.
The officer deserves a big salute from our heart. He managed the situation very calmly while saving the baby. 🥰🥰🙏🙏
Thanks so much officer for helping to save that beautiful baby. It's hard seeing the child u carried for 9months almost loosing his/her life. Blessed be GOD ALMIGHTY. Thks again officer 🙏🙏🙏
Normal people: "What a great cop!!"
Twitter: "Did the cop have to miss-gender the baby??? Fire him!!!!"
He wouldn’t have saved the baby if it was a minority 🙄 (sarcasm)
"Oh it's a she?"
*GET READY TO BE DOXXED, BOI*
chris easly can you not read the part the says sarcasm? 🤔
Fire the cop.
