    The Crow is cinematic "lightning in a bottle". will never be matched even by its own attempts at continuation and especially thru a reboot.

    This is one of the rare movies that fits into the genre on Rock Opera. The sound track is almost as good as the movie and something I still listen to to this day. It is absolutely one of my favorite movies of all time. I do agree 100% that the original story doesn't need told again and that they should move on to a different story in the same city.

      I agree Brandon's crow is unique and a reboot would in some way be disrespectful to both he and Jason whenever anyone mentions The Crow we auto tune to that scene of Brandon Lee's face (superimposed over his double) looking out that broken window in the storm or any of the phrases he made work like "victims aren't we all"

      BLVCK Atlantian Agree, I like Jason as an actor, but he would not have been able to pull off the original. I also think of what happened to the Conan reboot. Hollywood just relies on CGI and short attention spans, I don't know if they'll be able to even get near to the surreal feeling the original had.

    Brandon Lee was amazing, capturing the character's dramatic, sensitive and vicious sides. Michael Wincott was incredible as the surreally evil villain (does the man gargle gravel?).
    The soundtrack was a near perfect representation of the zeitgeist of the time. And it was shot well.

    The Crow used to be one of my absolute favorites until I read the graphic novel. The film pales in comparison. I am very much looking forward to a more faithful adaptation. I take nothing away from B. Lee and the first film, but it isn't an especially good version of the far superior source material.

  • @AneTix101
    @AneTix101 Před 6 lety +3

    I didn’t know Brandon died during filming when I first saw the movie. I was barely in my teens when I found the cassette tape in my brother’s VCR and watched it in his room. (I’d sneak up there while he was gone and watch his skate videos.) Being a brooding child of the 90’s, I loved it. When I got older, I watched it regularly and it only fell out of my favor after I watched the second one. I was young and conflated the failures of the later into the former. I’ve gone back since and rewatched it, especially on Halloween, and enjoy the nostalgia it invokes.

    The first Crow was basically my favorite CBM until Iron Man was released, so glad to hear your views on an amazing movie. Also glad to see someone give a little credit to Michael Wincott; I loved his Top Dollar, and have been disappointed that the role never really seemed to lead to any substantial success for him.
    That said, I also am excited about the prospect of a reboot. I mean, while the bare bones of the stories are similar, the movie and original comics of the Crow were very, VERY different, and I'd like to see a closer adaptation. But, then again, I'm someone who feels that a new version doesn't detract from the original, it can only enhance it. The new Ghostbusters didn't ruin my childhood, it made me go back and watch (and enjoy) the original again; and whether it ends up being good or bad, just having the new Crow announced is introducing a whole new generation to the original, who otherwise might have never experienced it.

  • @Jaeger_Bishop
    @Jaeger_Bishop Před 6 lety +4

    As I said before. I would never reboot/rewrite a character unless the first product was not up to standard. Hence I would never even dream of rebooting this film. No offence to Jason, he's an exceptional actor and was the main reason I watched Star Gate Atlantis, however he has BIG shoes to fill as do the other actors especially whoever played Top Dollar, it's not JUST whoever play's the Crow...I don't think these people get that. It wasn't JUST Brandon Lee's performance...I'm not saying it can't be done but I refuse to give anything less then equal performances from all characters a passing grade.
    The original was a classic and for good reason, I just hope they can live up to the film. Though Personally I would have rebooted any of the others like "The Crow Salvation" or "City of angels"

  • @kenzopo8125
    @kenzopo8125 Před 3 lety

    You made some excellent points in this review, points that others have sadly left out.
    The fact that any actor they get to play this role is coming into it woefully inadequate because of who Brandon was, who his father was, and how they both died while filming movies. The name of Bruce Lee's film is called Game of Death which is sadly ironic in and of itself when you think about it. It's like fate played a cruel joke on father and son.
    And in Brandon's death he basically became that character of The Crow, no other actor is going to be able to top his role; the same goes for Heath ledger and the Joker.
    Also this movie is the sort of zeitgeist or Avatar of the early nineties, it personifies and defines that era so well.
    And lastly the soundtrack is amazing it is by far in the top 10 movie soundtracks of all time.

  • @rars0n
    @rars0n Před 4 lety +1

    This is one of my favorite movies of all time. There is so much great acting in this film but none of it tops Brandon's performance. This is one of those films that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to remake because it has already been done so well. I don't think there's any reason why they couldn't revive the franchise but it needs to be a well-done sequel with its own story. Don't give it any connection at all to the first movie.

    The Crow is one of my most favorite films of all time. In my opinion, it is a perfect masterpiece! There are no scenes that are pointless and it was way ahead of it's time in style! The actors, the cinematography, and the direction - EVERYTHING about this movie was on point! I actually LIKED the 2nd one - City of Angels - if just for Iggy Pop as a villain. He stole the movie. Vincent Perez did a good job as well! He was convincing and the revenge deaths were satisfying! Now, the Crow movies AFTER those first two were dreadful, in my opinion.

    The movie was simply great, enough said. I am sorry Brandon lost his life on it, looking at the other films he did, it seems they were always trying to make him into his father or just take advantage of his name. But here he showed his range. Of course, in an interview before the accident, he stated that this was a role no one could tell him how to do, because who knows how a guy sent back from the dead for revenge would actually act? I think it could have been a start for him, with more serious parts in movies. Oh well, who knows? Thanks for the review and the memories!

    My favorite scene was David Patrick Kelly character TBird was duct taped to his car and Eric Draven was about to light the car on fire and send it into the water. TBird slowly recognized him and you see his tough guy image fade away into absolute terror when he starts screaming, "you can't come back!" and then Eric sends him to his death. The reboot needs to have David Patrick Kelly in it too.

    The crow sits with me as a timeless classic. It holds value over the decades and in my opinion, should not be rebooted. If Brandon lived this movie would of been his break out role. Just like his father with Enter the dragon. I don't mind Jason as an actor, depending on what my reaction is to Justice League it might change my view of him. With the studios jumping on his bandwagon it's a smart choice for him to do this role. But, if this reboot is suppose to rival the original I'm going to say "good luck with that."

  • @tyisenhour1393

    The reboot doesn't bother me. The first movie was a classic but the sequels aren't good. And there's way too many sequels. It's tragic that Brandon Lee died but that doesn't mean his movie and character aren't off limits to be remade. That's like saying DC shouldn't have made a new Joker for suicide squad because Heath Ledger died after his role. Not that I really liked Leto Joker but my point stands.

    I do feel it is an unjustified reboot. I would have made the movie be in that universe, but make it so that it is own story. Let the exploits of Eric be a legend in the movie itself. As in the first movie was about love, loss, and vengeance. They could flip it around with the main character being the farthest thing of a hero, who dared to love, be betrayed by that love by force. Comeback to redeem his wrongs leading up to where the forced betrail wasn't a betrail, but a sacrifice to make everything that to make things right for the sins that hero had done while alive. Only to unravel everything in a nice plot twist. At the end pose a choice be consumed by vengeance that to would start everything right back to where it all started again, or Let go of vengeance and accept justice for himself. I know this is a vague description without deeper details, but I don't want to make this post too long. lol but yeah I'm willing to give the reboot a shot, if its done right I'll praise it. If done badly..well, oh well.

    Being that there was already a sequel to the original film, and that it failed miserably.. it isn't too off the mark to think that the studio executives are not wanting to gamble on another film sequel of "The Crow" universe. I think a re-boot of the original will just tarnish the creative image the original film brought to life on the silver screen.

    Love it to the point that I wore it out on vhs, bought the DVD, I'm looking and hoping for a blue ray and is on my watch list on Netflix. About the reboot it'll be ok IF it's in the same "universe" and they don't do the Eric Draven. I feel that that's Brandon's character he brought to life superbly and NO offense to Jason Momoa but I don't feel he'll do it justice as Brandon Lee's not that it won't be good but it'll definitely be compared to it. But I liked the book and movie the sequels not so much but I'll watch it just feel that Eric Draven's story ended in that cementary but a story if well written should di the original justice.

    The soundtrack was timeless, atleast for me as a 90's kid. What a loss because of what happened to Brandon Lee.

    I remember when the movie came out and watched it. You can't really appreciate a good movie as a high school kid. But I do remember the action and that's what I went to watch it for... Now older you can take in the full scope of the movie. The list Love, revenge, and sympathy for the little girl and the crack head mother... Just a fantastic movie.

    So sick of Hollywood re makes. The orginal was directed by Alex Proyas who also directed Dark City - it was done in a film Noir style. This will just be remade as a standard Horror/action flick probably by a run-of - mill director to cash in on the name. There also partly dis-honoring the memory of Brandon Lee. Pathetic.

    I also loved the score. I loved the movie, but all these incarnations have really deterred me from ever seeing another version of it.
    I would personally prefer a different version of the story. Make into a mystery/horror movie and then bring it to the original.
    I just too many of version of the original that I couldn’t see I enjoying a reboot. The TV series really pissed me off.

    Reboots happen. They're rarely necessary or wanted by fans and they rarely succeed at surpassing the originals, but they happen all the time now and they're not stopping any time soon. Big deal. The original movies we loved will still be here for us to enjoy whenever a remake emerges from the abyss of Hollywood's creative bankruptcy. I adore The Crow, but even if the remake does end up sucking spectacularly, it'll just make me appreciate the original even more and will hopefully just amount to a big fart. A putrid offense to your senses for a little while, but it passes and you can always just crack a window and get a whiff of something more pleasant.

    I dont think some of the style choices being of their time is a negative in any respect, if it works it works, no matter how many years have passed. And as for the special FX they look great, they took what they had at the time and worked within those limitations and ended up giving the FX their own style and feel. Its not how good your tech is, it's what you do with it that matters. I give you john carpenters the thing, their tech was very much inferior to what we have today, yet its FX look better and have more weight than most horror movies coming out now with all their millions and state of the art FX.

    'brutally raped and murdered, respectively.' If my sleeping patterns weren't screwed up and I wasn't tired tired that would make sense, as it stands though that takes on a whole different, darker, meaning.

      +Madison Atteberry I couldn't word it how I wanted to, but basically the fiancée was raped and then lost life due to injuries suffered, so basically murdered and Eric Draven walked in on the incident so he was shot and thrown from the top of the building.

      No I knew what you meant, or tried to mean anyways. It's just like I said my sleeping has all been out of wack recently so I spent half the video trying to focus more clearly on what you said until my brain snapped, er....not in a 'crazy' sense, and I understood what you meant.

    Should not be remade. I’m glad it didn’t work out with Jason Momoa cause imagine the soundtrack it would be shit. The comic film and music was from its time. Even though I know the comic was made in the early eighties shit was gritty dark. You can’t remake this film with today’s music.
