The Crow works because you have sympathy for Eric and Shelly. You want Eric to get revenge for Shelly. This sounds like you can't have sympathy for these two because they're scumbags.
I haven't watched it but Mr. H seems to have hit the nail on the head this time. I remember the reboot of the Hellraiser Franchise and that was excellent. Those people were druggies and losers as well but it worked for the movie. You didn't expect the people involved with the Lament Configuration to be loveable or sympathetic and yet you could feel for them. They started low and there were no expectations and they surprised the audience. In the Crow, you are supposed to feel for their plight and understand the need for Eric's vendetta, but it's most important that you see the injustice in it all. That they were essentially good people caught in a bad situation, not of their own making. To start them off as lowlifes doesn't engender any sympathy when bad things happen and to introduce the supernatural right off the bat and not have it be Eric is an odd choice. That's what made the real Crow movie so amazing. He was the only supernatural aspect of the movie and the grounded in reality, ("this is the really real world man! I really enjoyed the film but yeah its not a patch on the original but its so different it works on its own. Yeah FKA twigs cannot act, she is the weakest element of the film.
I saw her in the Shia Labeouf movie about his life, Honey Boy. I remember seeing her name in the credits and being like wtf is that? Looked her up to see she was some singer. Insane name. Don’t even remember her in that movie, didn’t stand out at all. Funny that movie was also about addicts. Playing to her own experiences maybe? I’m guessing she gets gigs the way weird art girls typically get them.
I was a homless heroin addict FROM 2013 TO 2019 on the streets of chicago! Jesus saved my life ( not trying to preach) Eric Draven was a talented musician, a selfless person that also cared for Shellys little sister. What in the actual fu*k where they thinking making the main characters selfish drug addicts? There is nothing endearing or romantic about it. When an in love with another addict, its constant lies, using, and screwing one another over for that next fix. "REAL LOVE IS FOREVER " becomes meaningless if you make them drug addicts. @H you need to google FKA Twigs I think you are partially right about how she got the role. She once dated Batman and the Shia Lebouf - she was the one that sued him. Thanks for the review, saved me a trip to the cinema. Will download in a few months!
Given how violent the action set pieces are and with some slightly different editing and a different name this film probably would have had a much better response. Because I've heard the action looks great but it takes quite a bit to get them, versus the original film it doesn't take much to get to the first fight followed by the non stop action that the original has.
I literally kinda agree with you on this one. It wasn’t absolutely shit, which I guarantee we both thought it was going to be. And yes they needed a way better actress than fka twigs or at least showed her musical talents which would have made more sense. At the end of the day I thought it was 2.5 out of 5 stars. And in the lull of shitty movies coming down the pipeline in the next few months, not a bad flick to go and watch at the cinema. And the original is seriously the greatest graphic novel film ever made in my personal opinion. And I’m my in my mid 40’s, and I have always been an avid comic reader. So the fact I didn’t hate this even though I agree it could have been so much better. I’m still ok at what I saw. Cheers mate!
This film may have worked for me if it wasn't a remake of The Crow, a film that did NOT need to be remade! Is Hollywood so bereft of ideas nowadays that they now have to destroy classic films made in era when they could make enjoyable entertainment?

All the bad guys would be played by straight white actors and the character of "Sarah" would be a Tranny.
Seems like the best aspect of the film is the lore and mythology, introducing elements from previous installments in the franchise specifically Big Bad Roeg with the ability to steal essence or powers from others similar to the villians in Wicked Prayer (2000) comic. Loosely adapted in 2005.

What they were thinking writing this is beyond me! Cheers Nate! been a subscriber since you started the channel! You are always mybgo to source for movies... watched Longlegs yesterday, LOVED IT!
The Crow is one of my favorite movies. Why remake it?
Always appreciate your reviews, Mr. H!
You ROCK, Mr. H!💛
@H you need to google FKA Twigs I think you are partially right about how she got the role. She once dated Batman and the Shia Lebouf - she was the one that sued him. Thanks for the review, saved me a trip to the cinema. Will download in a few months!
The original crow had an amazing soundtrack. I legit still have the CD
Yeah, Ill stick with the original
Given how violent the action set pieces are and with some slightly different editing and a different name this film probably would have had a much better response. Because I've heard the action looks great but it takes quite a bit to get them, versus the original film it doesn't take much to get to the first fight followed by the non stop action that the original has.
Creativity died with cell phones.
Why was this movie even pitched and approved for a remake? It's a slap in the face to the Lee family..
Am i the only one who wants an animated adaptation??
This film may have worked for me if it wasn't a remake of The Crow, a film that did NOT need to be remade!
Is Hollywood so bereft of ideas nowadays that they now have to destroy classic films made in era when they could make enjoyable entertainment?
I might see this later maybe at home but I have the original on 4k steelbook which is a fantastic fantasy film this will never be better then that, the great Brandon Lee rocks.
“There’s not a lot of spoilers” not surprised considering they showed pretty much the entire movie in the trailer.
If i had a nickel for every time a reboot came out and I asked myself: why couldn't they just make a new movie? new characters, instead of ruining the original? Hollywood is made of a bunch of cowards
Can’t wait to watch that opera scene on CZcams in a year 😅
At least they didn’t make Shelly the crow to come back and avenge Eric. If this was lucasfilm or marvel you can bet that would have happened
Change the names of the characters and that could have worked
@@batboy9997 As a new and stand alone story, sure I guess but a female crow would need to be very well written. None of this "Strong independent wahman" nonsense. If this was a Lucasfilm or Marvel thing though, they would make it Erica Draven and Sheldon lol. Erica would be black, obviously. All the bad guys would be played by straight white actors and the character of "Sarah" would be a Tranny.
I love how diplomatic you are dude. A very decent fair review. This film to me is the epitome of bollocks. Well done loads for being fair.
Seems like the best aspect of the film is the lore and mythology, introducing elements from previous installments in the franchise specifically Big Bad Roeg with the ability to steal essence or powers from others similar to the villians in Wicked Prayer (2000) comic. Loosely adapted in 2005.
This in not the crow this is a man on pcp who forgot about revenge
This movie is a 0/10, however if you count the final fight scene, which is decent, it becomes a 1/10. If you like the OG Crow don't watch this, or watch but have a hospital on speed dial, for when you get an aneurysm.
Fka twigs is "we got Zoe Kravitz at home"
Fun and Fair review.
Cheers!
Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that about her
I'm sorry, but Brandon Lee IS The Crow.
This movie is written like a SJW love song. It disgust me they they would gut an amazing adaptation to just keep the IP
I watched the new Crow 2024,in a word “ Pish “,apart from the Opera house fight scene,it was absolutely wank.
I had to watch the original movie to restore my faith in Good Movie making.
I was never a big Crow fan, but I enjoyed this movie more than I did the original. I know you're not supposed to say that on the fanboy dominated internet but it's true. I had a fun time with this movie. It was cool. That's all I need it to be.
