    While battery tech remains expensive, the 2019 Hyundai Ioniq range of hybrid, plug-in hybrid EV and full EV models won't win any 'best budget buy' awards, but there is good value here nonetheless.
    Even the base models are well equipped, and the Hybrid is more affordable than the rival Prius. So, of the three variants, which should you consider?

    What a beatiful car the Ioniq EV is. Having had one for a while, I still can’t stop watching these kinds of videos of it to see if people understand just how good this car is.
    I am lucky enough to live a place where the tax policy makes the ice-cars, including hybrids more expensive than EVs, so the Ioniq EV is not only the best of the range, but also the cheapest.
    It is basically THE cheapest fully family car to buy, own, use, and service. The kids LOVE it. It has 5 star safety ratings, it has all kinds of equipment, it costs half of a Tesla 3. I used to hate driving, but since getting the Ioniq I actually try to find excuses for taking the car out driving.
    The Ioniq EV is one hell of a car, i doubt Hyundai makes $1 on them. Living in a really cold place, I even find they warm up faster than ICs, and I even haven’t worried about range one single time. 70kWh fast-charging means you have charged half the battery as fast as you would tank your IC-car and pay for the fuel. Instead you can buy a hot dog or an Ice-cream, or a carrot if you are on a diet and pay for it while the car charges.
    Of course you trickle charge at home so you start every day with a full battery, making fast charging a rare occurence. 200+ kilometers of real-world range gets you suprisingly far!
    It is a no-brainer.
    Also check out user-forums for different cars right now. The Ioniq-owners are the only ones that doesn’t hate their cheap cars. They are very pleased, just like me.
    Best car there is right now;-)

    I've read all the criticisms before. How you react depends on your point of view. Old fashioned parking brake: I've found the electric brakes to be dangerous-accidentally engaging them. The handle brakes are a pain, I like the foot brake better. The bar over the back window took 5 minutes to get used to...it was different, not a problem! The handling and ride ("thumpy and fidgety"), test drive one for yourself and you might find the reviewer in need of colonic relief...it certainly drives better than the premium Elantra: the driving position is better, it is quieter, ad handles better. 60 miles per gallon...eat that Prius! It was pricey but so far worth it. I have the Hybrid model. I read and viewed the reviews, but did not find them accurate after a test drive and ownership for the last month.

    Nice little EV, the Ioniq EV. Best value EV for under $50k. Perfect city commuter car. Either this one or the Kona EV as my next grocery car.

    Never felt any poor ride quality in our ioniq hybrid, with its independent rear suspension it's actually extremely smooth.

    Here in Denmark Europe it's the same price for all 3 models, cheapest verson costs 34000 Euro ( 42500 US Dollars ) - I have the full EV version, very nice car, 0 problems :) The real world range is 120 km in winter and 170 km in summer, and maybe more if you drive in ECO mode ;)

    • @twiper
      @twiper Před 5 lety

      The range I have written here is from 100% to 20%, if you drive it to 0% I think we are talking 140 km winter and 190 km summer.

    Thank you for the test and especially for the costs estimates. Looking at your estimated costs per 125km or calculated up over their life (without any maintanance) turns out that the EV ist cheapest after around 240.000 KM while the Plugin does not make sense either in comparison to Hybrid nor EV in terms of costs. BUT who keeps the EV for 300.000 km? At 300.000km The EV and Hybrid costs about 50500 total costs. And even at 150.000 the EV is still about 5000$ more expensice than the hybrid for as you said cheaper maintanance at the EV side and after 150.000 will the EVs batteries still be fine. Which rises the question when will EVs will be economical in the long run?

      Videocopter NZ I came up with a similar result that the hybrid was the Best Buy , as the EV took a many years to break even . But you buy a electric car for other reasons ,ie less fumes , solar charging .... maybe feel a bit greener

    • @vladsaghin7644
      @vladsaghin7644 Před 5 lety

      Good point. However there are many markets where there are a lot of incentives. For example, in Québec (Canada) where I live, there's a 8000$ provincial rebate on the 38 000$ MSRP, so about a 21% saving. On top of that, there will soon be a 5000$ federal incentive, for a grand total of 13 000$, which is a whopping 34% rebate on MSRP. Add on that any dealer rebate (or personal skill), and you've got yourself a pretty good deal.

    • @VideocopterNZ
      @VideocopterNZ Před 5 lety

      @@vladsaghin7644 True. I think in general we are getting close to the point that with a bit of for example gouverment support we are close to EVs beeing a 100% alternative (just from the cost perspective) to ragular cars. And when your enviroment (for example US California) allows you on top to have a good super charging network and great solar power efficiency EVs are in some parts of the world a good deal now. Here down in NZ it will probably take another few years till we have a good charging infrastructure and solar be even better. In Europe for example you pay for one KW of quick charge about 0,40EUR which translate to about 0.60 AUD and that makes the EV look quite bad with about 9AUD per 125km. So when you use the supercharge network its quite pricy and thats what pulls me off EVs right now.

      @@VideocopterNZ electricity is super cheap where I live. On top of that 97.5% of it is renewable (95% hydro) so basically it's an EV heaven up here. The only downside is a harsh 5 month winter lol

  • @USUG0
    @USUG0 Před 5 lety

    too bad, they keep overpricing them. At least, the electric has no reason to cost more than 9000AUD extra as compared to a similarly equipped petrol ioniq (or elantra), considering the current OEM cost per kWh of battery packs

    Could you please stop using 'list price'? It's useless and misleading because nobody can ever buy a car at 'list price'. When Hyundai's own website lists the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid as ranging in price from $38,661AUD for the Elite and $44,017AUD for the Premium, then please state that in your review.

    'old fashioned' parking brake ...omg where have you been? ..'feels more modern', really? Hand brakes predate the parking foot brake and to suggest something is better because you imagine them an older style is to so show your populist level of thinking. Unimpressive review, please think harder.
