😊
Thank you, Phil. Years ago, I first watched a video of you and for the last 3 years I have been woodturning. Thank you. Much love from Switzerland and bless you.
That is awesome! Sounds like you are enjoying your new hobby! 😊
Another great project for the books. You have taught me not to be afraid of the odd piece of wood. They all have something hiding inside,
They do! 😊
Glad you listened to your viewers, it's a beautiful piece. Your right if I was you I'd keep that one too.
😊

Great little plate. I'm so glad it missed the burn pile.
Me too, Jean! 😊
Great turning of non Philwood, it turned out great. Wonderful way to save a beautiful piece of cutoff wood. Thanks. Cheers, Tom
Thank you, Tom! 😊
I love turning Koa wood . It always looks awesome . Then you take it to the next level. Thanks Phil .
😊
That dish is beyond beautiful. The shape and colors are so very lovely. Thanks for satisfying our desire to see more of that beautiful wood.
Thank you, Judith! 😊
Love the wood, chatoyance, and shape. Once again you brought a piece of firewood back to life! Love it!
Thank you, Brenda! 😊
A lovely square dish with beautiful grain and chatoyance five stars
😊
Nice piece. Very modern looking, something you would see in a top tier boutique. ❤
Thank you! 😊
...koa...my favorite wood...this tray is why...the grain is amazing! And that you kept it together to create this piece shows off your ability...👍
Love it...!
Matt
Thank you very much, Matt! 😊
Of course, it’s Koa, from Hawaii! And you certainly did it justice!
😊
Absolutely gorgeous. It turned out fantastic. It's an elegant, timeless piece, and the chatoyance is fabulous.
😊
Holy chatoyancy! That pith turned out to be beautiful!!👍👍
Thank you! Cheers! 😊
Very well done Phil. Howard Feed and Wax was the perfect match for the KOA.
Glad you agree, Scott, thanks! 😊
Very nice. The grain and the final shape of the piece remind me a lot of things I would see in the houses of friends of my parents in the 1970s when we would go to visit. Happy times!
Great memories! 😊
I love Koa. It is beautiful when it's shined up.
For sure! 😊
The chatoyance is magnificent, so love KOA wood Phil! I think maybe I have a new favorite turning done by your hands ❤👍🏻❤
Thank you, Duchess! 😊
Another nice turn, I’m glad you squared up to the challenge.
😊
The KOA wood is awesome , but PHIL is the star of the show. Great work.
Thanks, Dale! 😊
Well...I've learned my lesson. It's just lovely, Phil..
Me too, Karen! 😊
Absolutely gorgeous!!! Phil, once again you've made a great piece!!! Stunning!!!👍🙂
Thanks, Ron! 😊
I appreciate you going through your thought process as you go from step to step.
Good to know, James, thank you! 😊
Love the reflection on that wood, Phil that’s beautiful.👍👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Wow! I’m just as amazed every time. The shine in this wood is so nice. I love the simplicity of the shape and that you kept it square instead of grinding it down to a round platter. Just lovely! ❤
Thank you very much, Trincia! 😊
Man that wood has a crazy almost pearlescent quality...
😊
That turned into a beautiful piece and yes, that chatoyance came through! That's really gorgeous wood.
Yes! Thank you! 😊
A glorious result. I could gaze for hours at Koa and Walnut.
😊
KOA has the most amazing shitoiance. 😊❤ Thank you for being an excellent and informative teacher while turning this difficult piece. 🎉
😊
Hello Phil, thank you for agreeing to work with an off-cut. That Koa wood is so lovely, it would be a shame to let it go to waste. Perhaps because I've not done woodturning, with pith or anything else, I was supremely confident that you would make something beautiful. And hey, a lesson was learned. Fine work, as always. Look forward to seeing you again next Thursday.
Thank you, Deirdre! 😊
Stunning piece!! Sure hope you aren't being threatened by the wildfires, and the smoke is blowing away from you.
Thanks, Vicki! So far, my area has not been affected at all. 😊
I have watched this video twice now. I don't seem to be able to convince you Phil that you can come up with a design when turning non organic shaped wood. This is a delightful little square tray from a piece of pith that did behave itself for you. There is nothing to fault in this piece & the Feed n Wax finish is superb. Stay safe & well, Don from South Aust.
Thank you, my friend! 😊
After watching you do this, I went out to my throw aways and pulled out a piece of maple pith about the same size. I now have a really nice square maple "plate". You've inspired me over the last few years since I started wood turning to test my limits... I was even able to keep the bark on. thanks.
That is awesome! 😊 Thank you for watching and commenting!
Glad you turned it. It came out beautifully. Thank you for sharing.
😊
Phil ....keep taking the pith!!!! ......thanks for sharing.
😊
Beautiful! I’m glad you didn’t give up on that piece of wood!
Thank you, Mabel! 😊
Thank You Phil, Thank You Rick Chapman... OMG that KOA finish after the Howard Feed & Wax is quite an impressive combination. Always fun watching you turn and figure out how to approach the proclivities of each piece ... TM😎
Ohhh, proclivities, such a big word, I gotta go look it up! LOL! Thank you, Tuffy! 😊
I've always liked Koa and you did it justice.
😊
This is one of your absolute best. Beautiful piece! With a Howards finish, too. Thank you!!!
😊
Hi Phil the KOA wood is magnificent I love the colour and the grain of this wood. You really are an artist and you read and let the wood tell you what to do with it. This dish is fabulous and magnificent and unique well done this is why I love your videos you always turn amazing items for us. Amanda xxxx
Many thanks, Amanda, I sure do appreciate your comments! 😊
Beautiful grain. Well done as usual. Thanks for taking on the challenge.

Beautiful platter Phil! Thank you for sharing. Take care. Much ❤
Thank you, G G G! 😊
I’ve never even seen KOA in Australia, it reminds me a little of Burmese teak which is also rare as hens teeth now.
What a beautiful square bowl Phil.
I’m glad you turned this like you did, very very nice.
Thank you, Greg! 😊
🙋♂️🏴 Hi Phil you created a beautiful bowl I loved the end result. I was amazed that you were able to keep it in one piece.

She’s another beauty, Phil. Yes, I did guess what the finish was going to be. I thought it was the obvious choice, buddy. I hope you enjoyed turning it as much as I enjoyed watching you do it. 😎😎😎
Take care,
…..Gord
Glad we were on the same page for the finish, Gord. It's really great for something like this. Hope you are doing well, my friend! Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated! 😊
Never doubted you would make a beautiful piece
😊
well, it did not blow up. I watched in anticipation and the only thing that happened is you made another wonderful piece. I am glad you turned it. Furthermore, I think we all may have learned something from this.
I sure did, Fred, thanks! 😊
Beautiful tray thing of a bob, the wood is beautiful. Nice work Phil
Thanks, Doc! 😊
Your a brave man! Turned out beautiful and your not hurt so it's a great success!
😊
A beautiful snack bowl. LOVE IT.❤
😊
I was yelling don’t go to deep on your recess or you will have a hole in the bottom from your worm wood screw. Love the dish it held together a lot has to be said for CA glue. Love koa wood.
Thanks for the show.
Joel
Thanks for your help with the yelling, Joel! 😊
Nice Phil. You just continue to amaze us between the many wonderful projects. Nice platter.
Thank you, Kevin! 😊
As usual you scored a hit again Phil. I live in Hawaii and I get to turn Koa all the time. I too get lots of tear out on two sides of the pieces. Nothing some 80 grit can't fix. Aloha!
That pith really didn't like the scraper, I should have just stuck to the gouge. Next time! 😊
You did a good job Phil especially working outside your comfort zone! I really do agree with you about using a cloth though - it's easy enough to be careful and apply some common sense and a cloth works so much better that kitchen towel!
Good to see you havin fun, this wood is gorgeous - don't blame you for keeping it!
So true! Thank you! 😊
Nice piece. Very fine grain. Like the finish you used too. Great job Phil! Thanks for the video. Dan
Thanks for watching, Dan! 😊
Oh , Instructor Phil at your best. Simple straight forward teaching. It is a beautiful huh, huh platter, plate! Fantastic wood too. Now I’ve had my weekly dose of wood therapy with Dr. Phil. Thank you.
Thanks a lot, Kid! 😊
I’ll be darned. It worked out great 👍👍👍
Surprised me, too, Steve! 😊
