  • During Tali's loyalty mission Shepard is tasked with defending Tali during her trial. After the initial hearing is over and before departing for the Alarei, you may choose to talk to the admirals to gain some more insight into quarian politics. You will learn about the differing opinions between the members of the Admiralty Board regarding a possible war with the geth. After returning from the Alarei with the evidence, Shepard may the choose to use that knowledge to Tali's advantage when defending her via Charm or Intimidate dialogue options.
However, if you went straight to the Alarei and didn't bother talking to anyone at the garden plaza, the dialogue for both speech checks will differ, with Shepard focusing more on Tali's history and achievements to prove she would never betray the Migrant Fleet.
After the trial, you can talk to the admirals again (or for the first time, depending on your previous choices) about the outcome of the trial. There will be some dialogue differences depending on whether Shepard knows anything about the geth war or not.

Man I love Kal'Reegar, he's such a bro to us and Tali. Wish they gave him a bit more of a send-off in ME3

I love those versions. Shepard sounds more agressive at defending Tali.

It's one of those missions you have to save beforehand and try every option (asides from betraying Tali of course) because they are so good. I've done Paragon then Rally the Crowd in my two playthroughs so far, Rally being my favourite given the support her people give her in Kal'Reegar and Veetor ❤️

Damn the third wheel squadmate in the background is such a mood. 😆

I played a Renegade FemShep in ME2 so I never heard her Paragon speech before, Jennifer Hale really gives that one 110%. Back on topic, I've talked to the admirals every time I did this mission (which was only twice, admittedly), the idea that there'd be different dialog if you skipped them never occurred to me. I do like how the versions where you don't know about the war feel more personal, whereas the 'normal' version relies less on character evidence and calls out the admirals themselves.

Interesting! In the original game, those Charm/Intimidate options were greyed out if you never talked to the admirals. I remember hearing of “Talimancers” throwing their mice or controllers because those options weren’t available. The Legendary Edition nerfed a whole lot of these checks.

I had no idea that was the case! It's strange they would only enable the alternative Charm/Intimidate option now since I'm pretty sure no new content was added to the LE, other than graphical and QoL changes.

@@EmilyOnGames this could be a QoL change - or maybe they were there, but yOu needed an unobtainable number of Paragon/Renegade.
