I met Lolita at a convention in London Docklands 1994 along with Brannon Braga and Ron Moore. She hosted the writer seminar with Ron & Brannon where they talked about how the scripts develop and the SLIM likelihhood that they would buy a script from you BUT they might like some of your ideas and buy them. It was a fascinating few hours we spent in the room.

I was just totally sobbing at the DS9 documentary when I found it. Then I watched it again a week later! It was SO good! Ugh, but I cried so hard! Thank you Lolita for what you gave us over all of those years! And thank you The Shuttlepod Show, you give us all just that something special that we all are “jonesing” for!

To add to comment on Marc and Casey, I'd tell that they were generous with an autograph in California at a bookstore. Not scheduled, they walked in, as I was shopping. I hadn't seen Casey out of makeup, and didn't recognize him. Marc introduced me to him. They waited patiently as I purchased an anthology book about star trek, and opened it to ds9. They both signed it. A real fan boy moment, I owed to Marc Alaimo, with his graciousness, generosity, and patience. Indelible moment of my trip to California.

That's lovely. I remember a throwaway comment on Marc (it might have been on a DS9 DVD special feature or in a book, can't recall) which appeared to be based entirely on him *playing* a villain. Very nice to hear him spoken of positively. 👏

Always look forward to the new episodes of The Shuttlepod Show! It's always nice to see the producers getting some love and get to tell the often unbelievable stories that happen. I haven't done anything as big as Star Trek, but have worked in television for a good 20 years and can tell you that crazy stuff happens on many shows. Even "smaller" ones. Grew up watching Star Trek like many; used to watch it with my family after school (Voyager and TNG used to run back to back on CHRO at 4:30 in the 90s. My family was filled with engineers and were fans.)
Again, nowhere near as big as Star Trek, but I produce a weekly syndication sports show that runs on NBC Sports and even with a show like that the adventures are insane. Like having a tire blown after working with a NASCAR driver. Mysteriously losing one of our TV show sponsors on another show we did and not knowing why, then finding out the lead actor used to work at that donut chain and robbed them (didn't catch it in our background check). The punchline: American show, and most of us were Canadian. It HAD to be an effing DONUT SHOP. Life truly is stranger than fiction. There are definitely days that I'm sure we all wake up and go "Why the hell did we pick this carnival ride as a career?"...but then you remember these stories and remember why. It's not for everyone...but you'll never be bored as a producer. That, I promise you - whether it's local, regional or national TV. You WILL get these stories. -Cory

Growing up, my heroes were Spock and Kirk, Picard and Riker, Sisko and Kiera, etc, and all the others too.
And I had nowhere near the appreciation for the directors or story writers or any number of people who worked behind the scenes, in some office at the Paramount lot or anywhere else and episodes like this are absolutely fantastic for all the history and a peek behind the scenes that let you know that these people were every bit the heroes behind the camera and in offices and elsewhere that I loved that were in front of the camera. Thanks to Lolita, Connor, Dom, Mark! Mark! Mark! And Erica (and others too) for yet another out of this world episode. 🖖❤

I live in NYC, and I have been to the Javits Center. Frankly the location was terrible for a Trek convention in 2016. It is located at the far west end of Manhattan at 11th Ave.
Up until the NYC subway extension of the 7 line opened in September 2015, the only way to get to Javits was by car, bus, or walking from Penn Station at 8th Avenue to 11th Ave. Avenues are longer than streets here. The bus can be slower than walking depending on the time and day.
Even with all the negatives, I would have attended this convention in 2016 - I did not know about this until I watched this podcast. The last Creation convention I attended was at the Hotel Pennsylvania over 25 years ago. That hotel is now torn down as of October 2023.

Sam Gogley was the attorney defending Kirk. Played by Elisha Cook who was a character actor who played in many movies and TV shows from the early 50s through the 70s. Cook was the very frightened character from the Vincent Price classic, “The House on Haunted Hill”. Surprised no one knew this classic episode from season1 of TOS.

Before I forget. I think having Conner seated next to the guest and then Dom seems like a much better seating arrangement than before. Dom does most of the talking, so having him almost opposite the guest means their voices are directed more towards the center of the room. And it means the guest is looking into the camera a bit more. They aren't turned to the right for most of the interview, with their backs turned to Erica and Mark. So well done, a great choice.

Not sure. What’s going on with the audio? Sometimes they forget to talk into the mics.

If i knew producers were reading i’d complain while bowing! The sound is a bit tinny/hollow. Not sure if the settings are to make the voices more clear, or less than perfect mic etiquette:)
