  • #Tripisnotdead #FloridaManGoesToSpace Season 2, episode 14 is here. Dominic, Erica, and Mark have a wonderful conversation with Starfeet's first chief engineer and host of our show, Connor Trinneer, best known to us as Charles "Trip" Tucker III.
We discuss Connor's childhood in Washington, traveling the country for a year in a VW bus with the fam, quitting the football team for drama school, finding his way to Kansas City to wrap his formal education, moving to NYC to be an actor and more. How booking his first soap opera outed him as a non-practicing magician AND gave him is first TV death - this time via the elevator shaft. Moving to LA (twice), almost booking Will and Grace, being big in Japan and getting Star Trek Enterprise. Wash is looking great, has been outside enjoying the LA rain. Erica gets some fan questions in, this week’s Star Trek Trivia is replaced with Who Knows Connor Best Trivia, and Connor plays “Stuck on a Deserted Island with Dominic Keating.”
It's a special one for the Shuttlepod Show family, and we have a lotta laughs with our very own. Our favorite southern boy spaceship engineer isn't in his blue skivvies, but it's still a good one... Get cozy with your favorite cocktail or coffee mug, this one's a riot!

...and sporting a Riker beard too! 😀
Just to give Connor a boost, has he ever checked out his featurette on the Season 3 DVD set for Enterprise? - Rick Berman said that after having casted so many characters on Star Trek, Connor Trinneer stood out as one of those actors that "blew him away and knocked him back for being so good" listing him in the company of Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, Rene Auberjonois and Colm Meaney. Hows about that?
You've all been keeping me company this evening. Well done Connor for taking the chair; it's been an entertaining couple of hours. Another great episode. - Cheers!

Rewatching Enterprise, I realize more clearly how integral the character of Trip was, and how damned good Connor was at embodying the character. All the cast was really good, but even in such a good cast Connor really stood out.

Connor, Dom Erica and Mark, congrats on another fantastic episode! I know I'm not the only one who's been waiting patiently for Connor's turn in the chair - so happy we finally got a chance to see it! He was a great storyteller as always, really knows how to weave a good one and keep people engaged (there's a Trek joke in there somewhere). It was such an awesome treat to get all these little bits and pieces of what made him the actor and person he is today - it all really shows in how he carries himself. Doesn't take a single second for granted that he's been a part of something that has impacted and continues to impact so many people. His answer to what Enterprise means to him really struck a chord with me, about doing your best in the face of adversity, despite whatever roadblocks happen to be in your way. I've been struggling with some big and scary life heardles myself recently and I think taking his words and putting them in my back pocket for when things get tough might be a good way to help me push on through. Every episode makes me love this show more and more, but this one really made me feel proud to be a Trekkie and be a part of the community, even if it's just doing something as simple as leaving my thoughts every Sunday. (Plus how many people can say their suggestion was chosen for the name of the plant on their favourite Trek podcast? Not many. It truly brings me endless amounts of joy.) All and all, another fabulous episode! Happy Shuttlepod Sunday everyone! ☺💚🖖🍃

Not only that it's the refit which if the show had a 5th season it was talked they would have the refit. That is the NX-01 with the secondary or star drive section. ALso this along with all your show was so good. See if you can get Doug Drexler who designed the NX-01 and Mike Okuda on here.

When you guys were talking about how great it is to have different actors come on and learn about them I would have to say yeah this is a great thing to think about because 20 or 30 years ago before we had the internet like this maybe you would see one of the Trek actors on Entertainment Tonight for a minute or two and maybe Patrick Stewart or William Shatner would be on The Tonight Show but all the other actors would still remain a mystery so it's great that they come on here and you give an incredible hour-and-a-half of discussion with them. That's a great thing and to imagine how long we've waited sometimes to find out about things about these actors. It's great to finally learn so much about them

    Here's a few BIG things.
    1. Since shows like Picard shows that you can age characters and still have them relevant, do the same thing for the Enterprise cast. This would rectify that lackluster series finale.
    2. Bring Tucker back as a clone, that's been around a while, not just created for the new limited series. Make him one of the key designers of what will be the NCC-class of Starfleet vessels.
    3. Like Top Gun Maverick, add some needed humor into the darkness that's become Star Star Trek. Each scene should have some drama and a little bit of lightness to it.
    4. Lastly and most importantly, fill the void with it being approximately set in 2190; about thirty years into the evolution of the Federation. There's over 80 years of stories between Archer to April that needs to be filled . . . FILL IT with a great Federation story!
    Just a thought . . .

I always believed that an actor brings a part of themselves into the performance and the character and actor become one and the same in many respects. So, as a huge fan of Trek, I not only want to know more about the characters you play, but by extension, finding out and learning more about the actor who plays those characters means world to me.

There are episodes, like Shuttlepod 1, Dear Doctor and Carbon Creek that I would happily put up against the best episodes of the other series. For me, Enterprise was the last of the classic Trek series with a direct lineage back to The Original Series. It still cared about big ethical issues and found intelligent and thought provoking ways to tell the stories. I'm not knocking later Star Trek projects, but honestly for me Enterprise was the last Star Trek that felt like Star Trek.

I’ve been rewatching Enterprise for the past 3-4? weeks (having just finished rewatching TOS). Enterprise is a great series. Happy to have discovered your podcast. Thank you, Conner & Dominic for this!

Great way to look at it, there were 98 episodes of Enterprise which is more than most series have today. Still would love to have had those other 75 too! Enterprise was the best of all the series in my opinion, even though it was cut short. And of course that last episode was a simulation within a simulation and never happened. 🖖

It's wild hearing about iconic Trek actors having self doubts. They originated so many characters that feel legitimately real, and through their interpretations connect with fans around the world not only in their run time, but decades later with people that weren't even born yet. If you think about music that can do that kind of thing, it's so very few artists/bands that can stand that test of time. Star Trek, in no small part due to the actors, achieves that.

Mark touched on this and I think it's an oft-overlooked, but very, very important thing for us, as fans, to remember is to not begrudge actors who, like Mark said, don't know every detail of their character or Trek. I assume (maybe wrongly) that tv shooting schedules are grueling and things are often shot out of sequence and not every actor who gets cast as our larger than life heroes and icons are/were Trek fans and that's ok. For a lot of them, I imagine, they want to practice their craft and if it's Shakespeare or Star Trek or a daytime soap opera, or whatever it is, the craft is what's important. As fans, we pick and choose the shows we like and can follow it obsessively, but I thought that was an important point Mark brought up.

Thank you. I’m glad you’re saying this. So many fans of Trek are frustrated that actors know less about the show than them. TV is very very hard work. JMB! You got my vote! Thanks.

My husband and I just finished watching all four seasons of Enterprise. We thoroughly enjoyed it! For whatever reason, it was off of my radar screen until recently, and it was delightful to discover Enterprise for the first time this summer. My favorite episode was when T'Pol found out that her illness was completely and easily reversible and she was permanently healed from it. That felt like a beautifully enlightening episode and a theme many shows seem to shy away from. Perhaps it's easier to portray healing 'incurable' things when it's presented as fictional and alien. Both my husband and I also really loved every character. You all created very likable and noble characters. I'm happy to have found your podcast now that we have finished the show. It's exciting to hear about your creative process. I look forward to watching more!

Hey Connor really enjoyed your time on Enterprise, its clear that a villain is a juicier role so that fellow on Stargate Atlantis really sticks. As an aside I acquired my first auto in 1979 a metallic blue Pontiac Fireboid complete with The Great Bird of the Galaxy painted on the hood!

I was raised on TOS in the 70s and 80s, and watched quite a few episodes of TNG during its original run. But I never watched DS9, Voyager, or Enterprise, mostly because I had busy work and social lives in the 90s and early aughts. I finally got around to watching DS9 and Enterprise during the pandemic (I still haven't watched Voyager yet). Enterprise took a while to find its footing, but there were moments of brilliance from the outset. Such a shame they didn't get to do the Romulan War arc. By the fourth season, the show was really cooking, and they definitely deserved another season or two. It's cool to see how these two guys became and remained great friends

I'm showing my bias, but I liked season 1 of shuttlepod best because it stuck with my fav of the treks, Enterprise! It's been cool seeing interviews with other trek's cast season 2 for sure, but I'm excited to see an episode focus back on someone from Enterprise :). Dominic's interview last season was awesome, as is this one with Connor. Fun stuff
