I didn't watch Enterprise the first time either because it just looked like Diet Star Trek. All the other shows had an interesting visual design, but Enterprise just seemed boring by comparison. I like the show now but it's still just Diet Star Trek to me.

I agree that the militarization has polarized people's opinions on guns. It really flung people into opposite ends. It has also created a fundamental misunderstanding of guns too. How you all mentioned that the 30-06 is so different from the AR-15. Not really. Its all the same tech it just looks different. The 30-06 was what rifles used in World War 1 and 2, and it is a massive bullet. The AR-15's 5.56 is a much smaller and less powerful bullet in comparison to an ar-15. Likewise the AR-15 has 10 round magazines. Civilians can only purchase semi-automatic firearms just like most 30-06 rifles. They really are the same on a mechanical level. Its just that the AR-15 became associated with war after vietnam and its been the military's go-to rifle for over 60 years now. Then there's all the action movies that made the gun associated with just spraying bullets and being a total death machine. But its true, the military found that 30 rounders is a good amount to carry for their purpose. so that is what is produced and magazines trickled into the civilian market and became the norm. Magazines are an ease-of-use item just like getting a bigger gas tank in your car. You don't necessarily need it, but you don't have to stop as often to refill. As for the upsurge in ar-15's after 2004 that was because the 1984 ban on firearms had passed, AR-15's were the most common rifle before then, and still was after the ban (again military trickle-down) so while other guns were being manufactured again, the ar-15 was already available. This upsurge isn't some new thing, the number has returned to how it was pre-ban but most of us are too young to know how common it was back then. The AR-15 is used as a massive scapegoat. The big boogeyman of guns. It is all black, it has bits sticking out, so it looks scary. When in reality, its black because it is made out of polymer and the bits sticking out is a better handle and easier controls. You can replace all of that with wood, but it is still the same gun. There are many guns that are functionally the same, but looks like classic wooden hunting rifles and most people can't see that they're the same. Guns are guns, they can all look different but it is the same. You literally can't say "Oh these guns are okay, but these aren't" it is all the same fundamental technology and they are tools made for the same purpose. Shotgun, pistol, rifle, they are tools but their intended purpose is to kill. If that be animal or human that's up to the person, and one is a more serious crime than the other. When it comes to the country's gun problem its hard to find any solution because once you actually know what an AR-15 is, you forced to realize that you either need to ban every single gun (which tramples on the livelihood of lots of people) or you need to refocus onto why mass shooting keeps happening (which in itself is a difficult task and in trying to figure it out, it will cost more lives)

Omg, if she had waved goodbye as data and picard left the holodeck funeral. That would have been an amazing scene on so many levels. Cause in that funeral program her image prob had a basic AI installed that would include basic social interactions. So an automatic wave goodbye when the people exit. That would have been deep.

Really cool to see them again. They are so lovely and humble and it’s so much fun listening to them. Though, I also find it amazing how quickly time flies. When Enterprise came out it seems like yesterday to me, but now the final season is 20 years old! Even TNG remastered and the 2016 Star Trek Encyclopedia - the last big projects in the Star Trek realm they worked on afaik - in over a decade ago. And while Diminic Keating seems ageless - I at first didn’t recognise Connor Trinneer in his new look. Although both of you guys are so full of life. I always liked Enterprise and think the backlash you and the people working on the show received was so unfair and awful. I also really liked Dominic Keating’s reading of The Library of Babel short story! Live long and prosper y’all!

I don't know if I made a comment about this but the interaction between Capt. Shaw and Picard in the holodeck is Oscar worthy. It was brilliant and ranks there with Capt. Picard emotionally containing Sarek or the episode "The Inner Light". Not to mention Capt. Sisko. Avery Brooks deserves that Emmy and so does Tony Todd, Commander Kurn and Sisko's son in the time travel episode where he is a successful author.
