More defensive plays plz :) As exciting as the offense was that year, the defense was 100xs more exciting.

A lot of people forget because the failures of these teams were so painful to watch, that Coach Cooper's teams from '95 to '98 were probably as talented as any OSU has ever fielded, and accomplished some very good things.

I'd have to say that talent wise the '05 and '06 teams were definately better, but that '02 team came together and played some of the most extremely consistant football I've seen. They weren't flashy by any stretch, but they really played as a team.

Remember how whack our offense looked 2003-2004? Smith and Zwick were both developing and straight up bad really. OSU just relied on their defense. That's the normal cycle i think for the bucks: a season of great offense followed by two of rebuilding and relying on defense cuz tressel isn't going to open up the playbook until the offense is BETTER than the defense

Mike Kudla was a stud at defensive end, but had they made him a linebacker, he would be an NFL starter today. He was the best player on that star-studded defense at OSU.

Just saw a shot of Tyson Gentry on the sideline when the Illinois punter ran out of bounds.

Love the guy below claiming Kudla was better than future NFL starters Pitcock, Carpenter, Schlegel, Hawk, Youboty, Jenkins, and Whitner.

98 team would smash the 05 team, THAT TEAM was the best I ever saw

On offense, I'll take '05 Smith, Holmes, Ginn Jr., Gonzalez and Pittman over '98 Germaine, Boston, Miller and Wiley/Montgomery. Any day, every day. The 2005 offensive line was better too.

@@RM-ed1if The OP sounds like a jerk, but you are confused. TS wasn't that good in '05, Germaine basically held every passing record at tOSU until UM3 arrived. Boston still holds a bunch of records; he was a beast. Boston and Miller still have 2 of the best 3 seasons as receiving tandem. (Holmes was more talented than Miller, but Boston and Miller are the most productive pair of WRs in tOSU history.) Wiley was a bit undersized, but could hit a home run at any time. Pittman was good, but was completely overshadowed when Beanie arrived. Montgomery was never the same after his knee injury, but went in the 2nd round of the NFL draft. That '98 tOSU team was the most talented team we had until UM3 started recruiting top 3 classes every year. I would take Tressel over Cooper for sure (no brainer), but Tressel won the NC in '02 with a bunch of Cooper's players: JT could not recruit at the same level. For all his warts (and there were many) Cooper could recruit talent.
