Whew! That was close, Ryan. I'm guessing that at least half of the audience had to be resuscitated after Max told Helen how he felt about losing and then finding that ring. The rest of us were like NOoooooo. Then I began to realized, for the first time, how incredibly complex your character actually is. Freema's character seems to be more easily discernible. We would never call her an idiot, out of pure frustration. Her brain seems to be always on and tuned in. She loves Max all the way down to his essence. Helen would walk by Max's side in whatever direction he wanted to go. When she looks into his eyes and searches around to see what's really there, the depth of her love for this man is unmistakable. It's also a bit unsettling. I'm not sure if it is possible to love someone too much. If so, then he has the power to wound her in a way that she might not be able to recover from, at least not easily.
They are both highly intelligent, but Max is so highly intelligent that he is able to instantly evaluate a situation, quickly recalibrate, and then pull off what everyone else thinks would be an impossible save. (Maybe when we are calling him an idiot after something that he just said, he had actually turned his brain off momentarily and shifted it into re-charge mode-but his mouth doesn't know that yet. This character is not a robot, of course. But maybe that is why his brain is able to function at such a high level at other times.) It appears that Max immediately knew that if he allowed Helen to walk away alone at that moment, she would have continued to intellectualized what he said and all would have been lost. He didn't allow her to do that. He didn't ask to walk with her because he needed that. He knew that she needed that. Seeing Max do that, I began to realize how significant it was that we had seen him quickly recalibrate before. Of course, he does it again-twice-in the final scenes.
I, for one, was totally blown away by this final episode of the season-on several different levels. Ryan and Freema's performances deserve high praise. I was completely drawn into their characters' story. The choice of "Honest Man" (which appears to have been written and sung by Luke Sital-Singh) and the musical arrangement were perfect. And I loved being shut out from something so private and so intimate as what I imagine was happening behind that closed door. Congratulations, Max!
Dr. Max Goodwin knows how to dream big. Since there is so much work to be done if his ambitious goals for New Amsterdam Hospital are to be realized and Helen is eminently qualified and quite willing to absorb some of the pressure that he's under, maybe the "crash and burn" drama doesn't have to be in their personal lives. Besides, their occasional tête-à-tête rubs are quite entertaining.
Since nearly all of the other main characters' lives are so miserably unstable I agree with Ryan's sentiment, but I am guessing that Freema is right. Who knows? Maybe the writers will find it in their hearts to show the audience some mercy by allowing us to stay up for more air and just tread water for a bit during Season 4 while they are busy continuing to thrash and jerk the other characters around. After all, Max and Helen clearly complete each other and as Burt Bacharach wrote,
"What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of"
I have the deepest respect and admiration for these two actors and love the characters they portray. I wish them both much success, joy and love. (By the way, I wonder if Ryan knows that while his brain was turned off and Freema could hear him, he said that Max should say to Helen "I want to do ya." Sometimes, life does seem to imitate art, and it is best to not be too explicit about where you may want to go.)

I remember an interview a few years ago with Andrew Marlow, producer of the TV series "Castle," where he was asked about the timing which brought the two main characters (played by Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic) together. He said that he knew that if he didn't bring the characters together by the end of season 4, they'd end up being brother and sister from season 5 on. You can only simmer a TV romance just so long before shippers lose interest. The ultimate example of that would be the X-Files, where Mulder and Scully finally had a scene in bed in the last episode of the 11th and final season, and nobody cared.

I’ve seen many nstances where couples met as coworkers, boss peer relationships that happened over a long period of time, being completely professional when it comes to their work. Then after some years realized that they are meant fir each other. So, yes it can be complicated, but not impossible to find joy and ultimately happiness both ways with a bit of drama in between. I’m looking forward to how the next season pans out. But I’m glad that finally SharPWin is happening..... yay yay yay

I hope that the writers keep them together No MATTER WHAT!! They are friends. Lovers, SOUL MATES. Nothing and NO ONE will EVER come between them. They understand each other to the core. Their love should be a love of renewal every season. Their sexual love should be unmatched . Because in REAL LIFE there are clues who were and are destined to be together and are still together... Barbara Strisends and hubby James Brolin; Judge Milian and her hubby Judge John; and Rita and Hank, there are so many others.
I think Max and Helen should be/stay together....Sure there may be problems...WORK IT OUT!...whew..'nuff' said!
I think we'll have at first a honeymoon between Max and Helen, but then the personal dramas will come, they'll have to deal with a lot of things, after all they work in the same place and the relationship has now become intimate. I don't know if I'm doing a good analysis of the show, but I think the writers, since the first episode, thought of Max and Helen as a couple that complete each other and lucky for us that the actors managed to sustaint this so well. After everything we've experienced so far; it would be pretty crazy if Max and Helen didn't have their happy ending at the end of this show. It would be a disaster if the writers gave up on them. There was a lot of sacrifice, everything was left in the air, but many things were said indirectly (this is beautiful), only those who really love are able to sacrifice themselves. The character Helen sacrifices herself for Max, she loves him more, she knows that he is unable to choose, but she is unable to give up on him. I hope at least in this show my favorite couple has more luck because in Blacklist Tom and Liz Keen have not had, just like Jack and Tara in Sons of Anarchy, the game has to change.

When Ryan said don't you say it...I do agree to some extent that the show is more layered when the couple is not so wonderfully happy but don't do it

Yeah some drama like in real life dealing with things as a couple Georgia parents the hospital life on general but I want them to be together as a couple him abd Georgia had their ups and downs and they survived and he loved her and want him and Helen have a solid relationship their end game til the end love you guys always
I totally agree with your sentiment. Even though Georgia and Max had ups and downs they stayed together. Why not have Max and Helen together to the sweet end regardless of trials that they may go through as a couple
I agree with freema, I want the Drama! As much as I've been rooting for Sharpwin, when couples get together in shows and have a "healthy" relationship lol, it does tend to get a little boring lol
I don't agree, don't know if you watched Bones or Superstore but the characters got together in those shows and it worked, Brennan and Booth on Bones got married and had two children, they had a really healthy relationship and it didn't detract from the show at all, Amy and Jonah's relationship again was sweet and it didn't ruin Superstore....now that I think about it, it's the same with Amy and Jake in Brooklyn 99. It is possible to have a show survive with the main characters in a healthy relationship, it just depends on how good the writers are I guess
I think finding a balance where they tussle a bit, but it never goes too far would be best. Like couples who communicate and face conflict openly but with ground rules about not going to bed angry and remembering that they are on the same team. Interesting but not unhappy or unhealthy.
I don't often disagree with Freema, but on this point, I totally disagree. We are tired of the unhealthy DRAMA when it comes to relationships on t.v. Healthy relationships are NOT boring, but in many ways, inspiring. The creativity of the writers is not lost on boring; it's up to them to bring it alive.
Will there be challenges, even in the most healthy relationships? YES, and that's a fact! It is time for Hollywood to listen to the viewing public, and begin promoting healthy ships and challenges in a positive light. The world in general is full of negative aspects of life, and at the end of the day, it would inspire people to begin embracing ( as Max quoted) HOPE: that relationships can and will survive those challenges because the only way to beat death is EMBRACING (as Helen qouted) LIFE.

I'm like Ryan writers let them enjoy dating going out having that lovey dovey feeling maybe holding hands in the park talking things over at work and etc.. Let us enjoy them it's been 3 yrs and sure all couples go thru trails and tribulations keep it real but still come to a common ground give Helen the same respect as Georgia they made it thru just because they are interracial we go thru the same as any other person or race so please don't play that card writers. Agree, we have to deal with the criticism and race, as a black woman, I would like to see a black woman in a relationship, where race isn't a focal point. Let the relationship be about a man and a woman loving each other, and the dynamics that go along with that, hopefully, the writers don't bring someone to say, Helen needs to be with a black man, because of oppressive history, because the dynamics of the relationship is so beautiful and pure, that race shouldn't be a factor, unrealistic I know, but Hollywood should stop using black-race relationships as an afterschool special.

There will definitely be curve balls thrown their way (it's a dramatic tv show afterall). I think we will get some of the happiness in the beginning, but then (like Freema and Ryan said), I'm sure outside factors will begin to claw its way in. But they will ultimately persevere.
I hated the ending of Max and Freeman relationship because all the fight did for people in the show they did not want fight for each other so that was a poor poor Andy, especially the way they hear Freeman she didn’t even tell the daughter about she didn’t even respectfully come and tell Max about why at the end like thatand Max, he do all this, fighting for patience and patience, and then employees, and why he didn’t fight for her why he didn’t go back to Europe why he didn’t go get her so whoever wrote the end, then in the relationship like that, that was awful terrible so disappointed😢
