You’re not looking deep enough… that’s the surface level information. I believe in this scene Paul sees the evil he will do in the future and that his mother is responsible for him drinking the water of life and pulling the strings. This scene is more than a mere emotional outburst, it’s a teaser into things to come.

@@aleandro_vs oh yeah I understand that. A lot of people thought Jessica was really cold and uncaring towards Paul. I think Paul is really perceptive because the Bene Gesserit really did make him a freak, and when he travels South all of his fears are realized that he had before. He was being forced to the path until the Harkonnen’s destroyed the sietch. That is when Paul said “I will do what must be done.” He veers from the group going south to drink the water of life. After he gains prescience no one forces him. He knows what must be done in order for the people he loves to survive. There is no way for him to communicate this though. It would be incomprehensible to others because he was bred for this. Paul is one of the most horrifying and saddening characters ever written.

Watching this scene after seeing Part Two, I finally understand. The vision of Chani leading him to his destiny had two meanings to it. Paul couldn't see the whole vision, because his sight wasn't fully developed yet. @hypatia137 Před měsícem +3

Chani has her contribution in that too without wanting it. In Part 2, she fought against Sardaukar and The Harkonnens during the Battle of Arrakeen. For her, she did for her people since she could not betray her own heritage and planet. But she actually contributed Paul's ascension by fighting on the ground as a Fedaykin. Hard truth to swallow.
The dialogue between Jessica and Chani is so meaningful. Jessica says Chani "You are heading the north?" as if trying to imply, "You are the one who is against the prophecy all the time but now you are going to fight in my messiah son's army during the battle?" And while Chani leaving Jessica's eyes are as if saying something like "But you are going to fight against the common enemy anyway since you are too honorable and loyal to turn your back against your own people and this will be a tiny but important contribution to our goal. Ironic."
      For visions:
And the white dress that Chani wears in Part 1.
The white dress that Jessica wears in Part 2.
      In Part 2:
Paul about Chani: She will come to understand. I have seen it. What does this mean? Does this mean that Chani will change and make Paul's visions about the jihad come true. Chani standing by Paul's side. Or that person will be grown-up Saint Alia? What will Jessica think about all this holy war stuff? Does she just want to have her revenge from the Great Houses (since they began to see House Atreides as their potential savior in Landsraad but then they did not question The Emperor's silence or show any kind of distress and grief after House Atreides was hunted by the Harkonnens) or feels more than that? Does she want the holy war merely against the Great Houses (to digest them, to make them accept Atreides-Fremen rule, the religion and the new political and social system over the known universe) or there is more to it? Will she feel some guilt? It is hard to predict what will become of those characters in Messiah movie.
