Let the "old" girl rest after you made her all shiny on the inside again! Use her for promotional stuff and light work maybe? That last trip was absolutely the most epic you have ever done, and will serve quite well as the last hard work she will do.

Greetings from Canada, Rod. I have watched this video twice to put into words my thoughts. I can say from experience that regret over the loss of a beloved vehicle for whatever reason can follow one for a very long time. I wasn't privvy to the amazing vehicles you have in Australia, nor was my budget anywhere near what I think yours may be. I still have regrets.
Sometimes we all suffer from a momentary affliction I call "Shiney Kit Syndrome". See something new and have to get it, only to be disappointed. R&D of new components and hardware is extremely important in your business, but I think your statement at the 6 second mark really shows the true meaning of "The Old Girl".
Sure, build a new one, but for your piece of mind and the awe and joy of your fans, don't shelf her. She is a dream truck for many and is one "slushbox" vehicle I would be proud to own.
Thanks for all you give us!

I really appreciate the amount of time, money and effort that has gone into this car, and I always look forward to its appearances in 4WD 24/7.
It’s kinda weird to hear this thing being called old, as my daily driver is a 2001 Astra.
If I were ever to get hold of this car, personally I’d put the manual transmission back in it. I do have a thing for three pedals, and with almost every car around these days being automatic, I’d like to go the other way for a change.
    Keep up the great content!

Rocket Rod, I recall the early 4WD Action videos with the old Triton. You’re the personality that makes it work, not the vehicle.
I think the commentary supporting the modern approach is bang on…..upgrade to a new 79. But rather than go the single cab, stick with the duel cab. This is where all the family tourers and big rigs start.

Hi rocket rod I enjoyed watching every episode the 79 series has had to endure and can take a good bashing unlike todays modern 4x4's. stay with the 79 dual cab or single and go no holds barred. we learn from our past well most of us do, so max out the engine, go a higher lift kit and levelx5 diff transplant front and rear almost like a rock crawler and trophy truck and bigfoot all blended together. you only live once hell why not. 2020 and 2021 have been an uphill battle due to covid for most. some haven't made it thru. god bless their souls. build a truck we can enjoy watching from now to 2022 onwards. build something different not generic go for Tokyo gold not silver anyway I hope this will boost your enthusiasm. whatever you decide all the best on the new build.

Love to see a new build. Considering importing a new dual cab 79 to the UK and would love to see what the build up looks like and the costs of doing it. The base vehicle would cost me nearly £70,000. So adding an auto and the touring mods could double it is my guess.

As long as it sounds as good as the old 79. Stick it in portals go wild. Rod your a diamond. Love watching your content and the 4wd247 trips.

Must be one of the hardest decisions you have to make as she is legendary and has been faithful and never really let you down. A new rig makes sense for your development of your auto's. For Touring and some tough tracks i think a 79 s/cab with portals or at the very least JMax Rear diff correction kit, full Superior Lift kit and Airbags in the rear. Rear winch this time.
    Good luck making your decision.

Gday, in a business view yes it’s time to move on so the new products can be test to no end, on the sentimental side don’t sell the old bus, keep it there for future developments on the auto in older vehicles, treat yourself to some new creature comforts and keep enjoying the trips, Cheers

    Hey Rocket
Mate, I know the memories and experiences you have had with the old girl are priceless, but here is a thought, through your patrons you could run a comp and have her as the main prize, knowing she will still be on the trax out there doing what she loves to do best, sending it. Only with a new loving owner and still hold your tag for advertising just scaled down a little.
I'm sure a patron wouldn't mind that and would love and cherish a piece of Rocket Rod history. Mate, I love your work your vid's and what you and the boys from 4wd 24-7 do, and as jealous as I am having retired my 62 without being able to replace her watching you fellers keep my hopes alive of maybe getting out there again someday.

Rocket rocks! Watching from Amsterdam and every time Rod is on an adventure it is 5x more entertaining to watch. Hope you get the old girl back together.

Love seeing this thing in action and it'll be sad to see her retire.
But, seeing a single cab 79 with you behind the wheel will be cool. Maybe even a 6x6 79 with a tricked up engine. Whatever you choose, I'm looking forward to watching the build.

Love to see a new build for wholesale autos. Give the community an idea of an awesome new build with an auto. The way it should be done. 🤙

Go different with a Xtra cab, coils , portals and a not so heavy canopy setup and it will be a beast 💯❤

Dual cab 79 with a 600mm chassis extension, will give you the same size tray as a single cab. Great turning circle too.

Coil spring single cab 79 would be a weapon mate with a build video👍🏻

I love seeing the km racked up on an older rig, but seeing a new beast done right up would be cool too.
