Being a mine vehicle, I would have asked the client if they speed limited the vehicle by locking out access to the available gear set. For example, one of the mines I was on locked the underground 79 Series to low range and and had a physical H pattern gate plate that only allowed Reverse, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Similiarly with auto, gear selection was controlled electroniclly.

    Great episode as usual!
As a backyard ametur self taught 'Have a go' handy man I've disassembled a few failed transmissions and seen what failed but it's great to get the educated information and correct naming and descrpition.
The last unit had stripped splines so can only assume it was driver error and using the throttle pedal as an on/off switch😲
By the way I always use low range at every oportunity even when only reversing a small trailer because I get sooo much better controland I've always feared this result
    Thanks for sharing 😃

    Hi,
I have a 200 series Land Cruiser and was interested to see what can go wrong if the vehicle is driven incorrectly. I suspect the vehicle wasn't owned by the driver and therefore didn't have much responsibility towards it. Hopefully that driver will learn from their mistakes. I have a torque lock up controller and when in low range all gears 1-4 lock up after 1500 RPM. Also I monitor temperatures via the OBD port. A few months a go we flushed the transmission, replaced the strainer, checked for sediments, flushed the cooler and changed the ATF for a synthetic product. Although all this was expensive I regarded it as cheap insurance for a valuable transmission which has a huge reputation for reliability. Thanks for video. I will watch it again this time with sound.

Some car / 4wd manufacturers don’t even recommend changing the transmission oil at regular intervals in the service manual.
I was told my Hilux was sealed for life.
Took no notice of that advice.
The transmission gets a flush and full service every 50 000 kms.
If I towed and drove in sand a lot I would be getting it done around every 30 to 40 thousand.

As I was watching how those clutches were coming out my thoughts were along the lines of, could this have been caused by just straight up overloading the gear associated with those clutches by way of locked converter and too much weight? It was mentioned at the start that this trans came from a mine vehicle, repeatedly dragging a heavy trailer up an open pit decline maybe?

Hi, I use my lx570 in a way that I use the trans for engine braking as I tow a 7500 lb trailer. And without. Is this trans good for using like that? Is there a gear that is weak? Is it good to do at all? It sure looks beefy. I rarely go down to first but often go to 4 3 and then 2 as I slow. I rarely downshift above 2500-3000. Should I blip the gas a bit on a heavy higher rpm downshift? I commonly go down to 3 and two around 2000-2500 slowing down. Awesome to run across your channel and more so that you did my trans.
