    My NT1100 was blown over by wind a month ago and my top box exploded due to the impact, ordered one online to avoid dealers and extra costs to replace it and forgot I would have to assemble the lock myself. Thank you for this easy to understand and straight forward tutorial! My new lock and box are all in working order!

    Just used this again for the NT1100 Top case/box. Easier knowing I've done it before but still a satisfying job, thanks again, best guide and explanation for Honda lock, nothing left out. I did however have a few lost spring issues (one of the 2 larger ones with no spares) but had some from old locks I'd taken out of some older panniers but then found the springs had rolled and stuck to my laptop (magnetically) after crawling around on my hands and knees for 10 minutes!!!!😁

    I just followed the instructions and give myself time. Plenty of it. :)
    It's work well.
    In the final act when I inserted the thing in the box hole something not quite with I expected because the locking plete above was not fully pressset so the key not going to 90 degree....and the key in open position not free also....
    I experienced some 20 second of sorrow...
    But eventually everything goes to normal when I discovered the problem.

    Ya thanks!!! I bought a set of Honda panniers used and wanted to have one key for it all. So this was a great lesson on how to do it. With grease still in the cylinder, it held in all the springs etc. so I only did one at a time and thankfully the graduations weren’t drastic from x# to x# and it was pretty seemless. Really thorough! Nice vid!

    That made an impossible task doable thank you. I had a problem that some of the pins kinked as I put them in and went into the wrong holes at the bottom, but fiddling around and leaning the barrel on its side helped keep them straight. Also noticed, too late to be useful, that for me the bottom pins were a mirror image of the top ones, possibly because my key can be inserted either way up. Too confusing to think about !

    Before you turn the cylinder around, secure the pins with a transparent tape. So you prevent the pins and springs from falling out when you turn them to them down. Also you secure the pins from misaligning hence making it difficult to insert the key. Remove the tape before inserting the cylinder into the pannier. Excellent video because the original description does not tell you that the pins must not extrude from the underside of the cylinder.

    I have one question. You demonstrate filling all of the slots with tumblers which is very clear to me. However, the panniers came with an instruction sheet (Publication MII 15641) and on page 6 item 13 it indicates 2 of the 4 slots used and the other 2 not used with no explanation. Does it matter? Can you help clear this up so I can get started. If using all 4 will still still work, good I'll go for it.

      @CaryBettenhausen3 Před 2 lety

      My 2020 and newer Africa Twin OEM Polypropylene Top Case instructions also omitted the last two tumblers but I elected to install them without issue. Also, if you look closely at the profile of the key opposed to where each tumbler inserts into the cylinder you can closely predict which tumbler number to use. The deeper the cut in the key opposite the the tumbler location, the higher number tumbler you need.
