- After getting 7 bass in the Championship Round of the MLF Bass Pro Tour on the Chowan River, Zack Birge has come out on top and that decision has been overruled. This take Zack from 8th place to 7th place after several long days of waiting for Major League Fishing to come up with a result. In this video there is also an update on the Trait Zaldain and Trey McKinney tweet situation and why comments are deleted, why I didn't know their podcast and other things that have happened since posting that video.

It did mess him up and I probably would have lost my shit as well. However, that is on him and as a pro it’s your job to maintain composure and continue to do your job . Liken it to a basketball player who is about to foul out and the refs are making bad calls. It’s up to the player to continue to ball and hopefully not get their last foul that will remove them from the game. Or they can pitch a fit, make a frustrated foul, and leave early; hurting themselves and their team. Just another example of there being too many variables and rules within tournament fishing. If they were all in the same boat ; having identical equipment, with a reasonable amount of electronics, I think it would make things better across the board. In this case, the TD would have known rather or not the boat had an internal plug switch or external and eliminate the need for details that were miscommunicated.
My only take away from pro bass fishing is that the more money I spend the more competitive I can be. I can have a boat with auto drain plugs and enough sonar to make a nuclear sub blush, but I can’t push a boat over a sand bar.
I NEED the $150,000 bass boat now.

We hear so many great things about Kathy maybe she should be the CEO at MLF. I was in the boat with Zack last year as an official at red crest. Great guy and even better angler. Glad to see the correct decision was finally made.
I really hate to see all the controversy continuing to go on in professional fishing. I think Trey is an excellent angler with way more ability than folks realize. So many turn off the live as soon as they see someone using FFS that they miss all the times it’s not used. Thanks for always keeping up to date on everything.

I too was surprised when he was in the water removing his plug. Believed all the new boats had remote plugs.
I immediately wondered if what he was doing was legal. Didn't think it was. Once they called the penalty I figured it was, like you said, a miscommunication.
Did wonder why it took so long to announce the penalty.

Yep agree, a remote plug ($90) is easy to install and he could've done it without an "ask."

Good on you sir, nice video. Im glad people are talking about the lack of transparency in mlf and all major bass leagues. Cayuga lake was the tipping point for me last year. I live a few hills over and was excited to watch it. Signed up so I could watch it live and saw a lot of the same fish caught multiple times a day everyday on top of the practice they had. Plus a major kayak tournament took place the week of the practice and a local paper tourny. I fished the lake for opening day of bass fishing a weekend after and landed 1 bass. Could be I suck, but regardless nothing was done until social media and the people that watched spoke and saw. There were more tones of penalties that should have been handed out and then stick one guy for the least of all the penalties when he had multiple as well. I'm glad ny didn't grant any pro tournaments on Cayuga this season. I have only been bass fishing for 4 years but a fisherman for steelhead and salmon my entire life and never really kept up. It just seems like mlf is trying to do exactly what the anglers are doing as well and seeing what they can get away with publicly without backlash and then brushing it aside or actually admitting a fault regardless. This should be the standard. Not looking for gray areas and fishing and do what's right. Sorry for the rant. Peace,love, and afro grease

I think they absolutely did the right thing by letting his fish count, you are correct strictly a miscommunication.
I just hope they let the guy that moved up when I disqualified his fish. Keep his extra 2000 and his points because he was innocent in all this.

MLF did the right thing! I’m surprised a lot more pros aren’t switching to aluminum. Gator Trax and Xpress make boats that perform every bit as good as glass now. It’s really hard to damage them getting into tight areas.

Thanks for the post and for your comments it’s a very good video. I do want to make one point though they gave him the penalty while he was fishing his official let him know that his last seven fish had been removed. This messed up the rest of his day at that time he was making a big move and could have possibly won the tournament. MLF did the right thing by reinstating the seven fish but they really screwed up when they missed with the fisherman during the round. this is something that should never ever happen again. I have been very critical to MLF and I think justified so but they at least saved a little face today.

So I think the reason Trait catches so much flack online isn’t because she calls thing out but the only names that she has dropped are the young guys. She will drop rumors about anglers but doesn’t name them which has the optics online that appear that she has it out for specific people by only dropping specific names. Which I doubt is truly the case after some back and forth with her on X but if you are going to call someone out for one thing you have to drop names with all things.

First, THANK YOU!! I believe they realized while still wrong with Birge, they needed to make it right. And I think that was the correct thing to do. On Trait, she is speaking for a group of anglers who can't speak for themselves. She is outspoken and polarizing, but she has the insight, but how you release those statements needs to change slightly. Cheers and tight lines!!

The biggest problem with BASS tournaments is the price point. This was a perfect example. A more expensive boat with a remote drain would have afforded him access to go to that area. But because he had the cheaper manual drain he could not. The issue should not have been how the drain was opened or closed but simply could the boat be flooded for access to the area.

I always carry an extra bilge (emergency use). It’s not mounted like others. It’s wired with electrical and hoses. It could be used to pump water in just as well as out 😮🤷🏻♀️

@@GetUrFishOn nah bass will use him for atleast 5 yrs then they will toss him to the way side, like a record company use the talent for 5 yrs then replace them. They'll add a few ounces to the scales for him if they have to. The next super star is that kayak girl on yt, got to draw in the females to the sport next, they'll make sure she qualifies next yr in the opens they might even let her get aoy in the opens, they need her for viewers

Though I understand your point. And perhaps Trait is in fact bringing to light issues. However, there is right way and a wrong way to accomplish this.
When she comes out and accuses someone of wrong doing, with no evidence or proof of the allegations, thats what we call slander and or defamation of character. And would definitely be a losing battle in court for her.
If she would lose her “ holier than thou” attitude, she might accomplish a following for accusations.
But in the end, BASS will have to determine any wrong doing. I do believe there is jealousy on her part for other anglers/families successes. But that’s just my perception.
They should pay him for the mistake because it ruined his day and potentially cost him positions. Mlf is a shitshow

The more I went and commented about this, the more I thought that they both had communication errors. I really thought the TD thought he was talking about the area and not the plug, but it's all good, excluding I think he might have stopped fishing after he heard the news...... but I don't know that officially. Just know he didn't catch anything after that and his spot seemed to be pretty decent and no one had fished it. Cheers and tight lines!!

I know BASS did polygraph anglers in the 2016 Wheeler lake event and one got disqualified. I was there. I was polyed in a Redman state run series back in 1987 and it doesn't take too long to do it. Pretty sure BASS will do it but I don't know if it's random or regularly done. I like your stance on your channals operation.
The polygraph is crazy random. They do it, but I believe it's so random, they don't target one angler. I've heard BASS does it to little, MLF does it way to much. Cheers and tight lines!!

I still don't agree with it. The rule can't be written any clearer. You can't leave your boat. I find it hard to believe Birge even had to ask someone about it.
They did say in the press release that he did break the rule, but because the TD gave him permission, they needed to make the right change. Cheers and tight lines!!

Trait zaldain is actively destroying Chris’s career and has been for months. Im beginning to think its intentional!! She is jealous of anyone who is doing well and loves to create drama… Chris’s problem is that he simps for her and has allowed her to wear the pants, her big mouth is ruining it for him. She’s just creating animosity amongst the anglers…she should not be allowed to be even on X.

well, He suppose to be professional. but he is not because he called the official. Then this happen. IF he is professional he wouldn't call official. He need to rethink and find a way how to win this tourney. Find another spots and he would have won instead call official. Fishing on the lake and calling official is too risky. He got disqualified but that suck!
Instead of respecting someone's opinion, it may be better to respect their right to an opinion instead of the opinion itself. There are a lot of opinions that I've had at one point in time and that others have that I do not respect. Just my opinion lol!

I think Zack gave up after they removed the fish. The score tracker didn't move the rest of the tournament; either that or it really messed with his "game"? I've lost total respect for MLF directors. They've really screwed these pros at every turn and there is nothing consistent. I'm suprised they haven't started bailing to Bassmaster.

Word out on the street , BASS is discussing the ffs debate. If you are correct about the rookies… i think you would be right. Id be surprised if the rookies can even read a topo map much less actually pattern a lake without the ffs crutch. But we shall see what happens.

She is upset that Trey's partner fished Wheeler Lake a couple weeks ago before the anglers got there this week. She thinks that his partner shared information with him that is not allowed to be done. If it happened, she is right and something should be done, however that rule is almost impossible to enforce. Cheers and tight lines!!

This is bullshit. Zack knew exactly what he was doing. He knew he couldn’t get out the boat and he knew he had to get out the boat to take out his plug. He intentionally worded that so it would be to his advantage. He broke a rule that he knew about and it shouldn’t have been overturned. I’m calling bs on this one

Normally I wouldnt agree but i do agree this time. I even heard the tournament director had asked if he had a remote drain plug. I like Zack but he can also be a little bit of a hot head sometimes. He overreacted by trailering his boat and leaving when he could have continued to fish and then tried to argue his case later.
