I have one of the cook filters that I didn't know was put inside of me (found by accident by a xray done at a Chiropractor). Was told because of the time it has been in (2005) and it's perforated, it cannot be removed.

The filters they use now in 2019 are a lot better and less complications. I just had mine put in yesterday in preparation for bariatric surgery on Dec. 10th. My doctor explained all this in detail and told me about the few problems he's had with filters but he's been doing this for 30 years and said the filter they are using now, he's been using for a few years and has never had any problems with. Good luck with your Dad.

Is blood thinners needed if you have an ivc filter? It was put in in 2015. I have a solidified DVT in my left calf. It was put in when I was just out of a 2 week, medicated coma when new clots developed in my right calf. That one went away. The left one likely never will. Very active i am. Thanks.

you should probably still use blood thinners if you have a DVT

I have had a PE. I now need a total knee replacement. Dr. Said I needed a IVC filter for the surgery and remove it after about 3 months. I still have a clot in the leg that I’m having surgery on. Is this a good idea.

Yes, they say the filter will eventually cause you other health problems. Mine being removed in June and I've only had it for 6 weeks.
