Bordertown is a series set on the American and Mexican border. Though I pull lots of inspiration from El Paso and Juarez, this series is based on my own inspiration and aims to encompass every thing that fascinates me about this area.

Biggest advice i can give is lights... more lights and more lights
and when you think you have enough, youre half way there
even on the darkest night, a border crossing is so lit up it looks like daytime in the area.
not so much at the USA/Canada side, but USA/MEX is lit up like the sun.

I think it's very cool that you're using El Paso/Juarez as the inspiration for a fictional border.
As a former resident, I can think of a few things you may be interested in implementing:
El Paso is home to Ft. Bliss, a military base on the eastern edge of the city.
The "Star on the Mountain" is a giant, illuminated star that sits on the southern slope of the Franklin Mountains. There is also a cable car that takes passengers up to a scenic mountain view.
As for the border, things may have changed since I was last in El Paso, but here's my recollection: The traffic volume is much higher flowing into the US, and because security checks at the US border are more extensive, wait times are often three hours or more.
There are lots of street vendors along this stretch of road, trying to sell food and knick-knacks to the waiting drivers.
For several years, my dad commuted to Mexico every day for his job. He would use the long waits to brush up on his Spanish cassette tapes, while munching on chili corn (bought from a street vendor, of course).

I always thought a border themed mod would be so amazing in this game.
Special border patrol stations, fences, small detailed items and of course the ability to split your town into two towns/cities and set them as two seperate countries (like two maps in one)... with different policies and laws and of course different assets.

What this guy said. Border crossings are so surreal at night, they almost look like military bases, specially some of the US/Canada borders that I've seen, and specially the Eurotunnel loading area. I mean, UK/France border is a one off but still a border nonetheless.

That railway spur is a headshunt - it's there to allow locomotives to manoeuvre from one end of a train of freight cars to the other (run around). It's probably extra long in this case to allow the loco to pull some extra cars with it, so it can shunt them from one line to another to assemble trains for dispatch, or to pull a bunch of cars off the end of a train to get at one in the middle.

    • @ATrainGames
      @ATrainGames Před 6 lety +2

Exactly. Trains probably pull in and that spur allows head-end power to pull clear of the yard ladder to then back down to the engine facility. It also gives plenty of room for multiple units to pull completely clear of the road, since there is a time limit they can block it, before backing into the clear.
Also, a switcher engine does have a few car lengths to work with if they wanted to use that tail track as a switch lead.

  • @NazbolCaliphDonaldaddeenTrump

I can't tell you much about the Mexican border because I've only been within ~100 km away from it, but as a Canadian living in the USA I can tell you a lot about the US/Canada border crossings. The ones I have gone through are the RT-133/I-89 crossing in St. Armand QC/Highgate VT, the A-15/I-87 crossing in Blackpool QC/Champlain NY and the HW-137/I-81 crossing through the 1000 Islands (at the end of the St. Lawrence river at Lake Ontario). The one I'll tell you about is the RT-133/I-89 crossing because I use that one most often. When entering Canada (heading north), the checkpoint is right past the border. There are 3 car lanes, 2 NEXUS lanes (NEXUS is a US/Canada border thing that allows frequent travellers easier access) and a pull off lane for trucks and buses. Past the actual checkpoint there is a garage for Canadian Border police vehicles with a parking lot. When leaving Canada (heading south) there is a little pull off for parking at a Duty Free store, a store with no taxes because its on the border. It's pretty small and resembles a large rest stop for travellers. After that you cross the US border, there is a checkpoint that mirrors the Canadian checkpoint, and attached to the checkpoint there is an inspection garage and passport control. Right after that there is a pull off and parking for truck and bus inspections, and off to the side a US F.D.A (food and drugs administration) building. Hope that helps! This mod wont help him in his case. He needs one of the mods related to disctricts which prevent service vehicles entering different districts. But these mods are not working as far as I know. It causes troubles like no emergency/service vehicles spawning at all. If the mod would work he can do it easily. He will create district Border. District Juarez and District Las Palmas. He builds one of the police stations inside every disctrict and set it to "patrol" only in this district.

Las palmas was founded in 1833 as a mexican City, but it was conquered by the US in the battle of las palmas in 1856,where almost 200 soldiers died.
Las palmas was an important City at The civil War, but it was reastablished as American City at The end of it.
In 1916 general Pershing and his army had to cross las palmas in the operation against the mexican revolution.
Once in 1962 , president Kennedy did a conference in The city.
And today ,the city represents the diplomatic relationships between mexico and the USA.

Throwing out an idea... I live in metro Detroit. We have 2 border crossing. 1 bridge, 1 tunnel. The tunnel does not accept trucks. Also, borders come with duty-free shops. Each side allows a store right at the end of the plaza that is entirely tax free. The US side does not allow use of the full road after the booths. They have a concrete barrier maze like a check point you would expect in a war zone.

  • @LukeLindgren1997

Hi! The service is called NEXUS if you're expedited between the United States & Canada (see here: www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/nexus). If you're enrolled in NEXUS, you can also use the SENTRI (why so many acronyms, IDK) lanes for fast travel between the United States and Mexico, but it is a different program. I think the last time I went to Mexico we used SENTRI, which cut the wait from 4 hours down to one-and-a-half. But we came in through SD/TJ, which is the busiest boarder crossing in the world (San Ysidro).
There's also Global Entry which gets you faster screening through arrivals at airports and seaports, and some countries enroll you in their benefits as well after paying a fee. For instance, if I pay 50 pounds, I can get use of the UK/EU national lanes when entering the UK through Heathrow.
But like DAMN! So much background research to make a Cities Skylines video.

You were right about Nexus, with Canada its called nexus where its a vice versa pass that allows you easy entry to either country. I have one being from a border city in Canada and I skip long ass lines which there usually is 22 hours of the day. I am not sure about what its called with Mexico though.

Sorry to be nitpicking, but the traffic lights you're using are not realistic at all, they're the ones that are used only in New York City. Down in the southwest region of the US, these states mostly use CalTrans (California Department of Transportation) style of traffic mast arm.
By the way, in the US, yellow lines are only used for dividing 2-way traffic, for dividing lanes, they usually use thick white lines.

UPDATE : For the most part of New Mexico are still using horizontal traffic lights, so this mod will really make it realistic since it fits the reality

just a suggestion. you should do a rio -like city with hillside favelas. Or a Mediterranean coastal town.

Looks amazing! I'd like to suggest to you "ghost roads," mainly for the right side where the trucks go. They do take a little bit more work to set up and to get to look correct, but you can set up completely custom paths.
