    I’ve given up waiting for the Argon Pi5 NVME case (my delivery date keeps moving backwards) so I’ve just ordered one of the 2280 versions of this from Amazon and as a Prime order it will be delivered tomorrow by 1pm. When the Argon one eventually arrives I’ll compare the running temps with 2280 SSDs. Thanks for the timely video. 👏

      I think I'm going to hold out for the Argon case, due to the WiFi problem. I have an Argon case on one of my pi 4s and with the plastic bottom shell, it doesn't seem to interfere with the WiFi at all. I have two of my pis on ethernet, but there is no cableing to the room my desk is in, and I have no intention to crawl in the attic or crawlspace to run one.

    • @ericg7490

    • @ThisOldManOfTheSea
      @ThisOldManOfTheSea Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@jbuchana I get around this by connecting a remote Pi4, running as a Roon Endpoint in a Pi Touch case which isn’t good for Wi-Fi , to an Ethernet PoE switch and the switch is then connected to a UniFi Wireless Access Point via Ethernet which also powers the AP. I also have 3 other devices in that room connected to the same Ethernet switch and they all share the Wi-Fi connection with no performance problems. [I live in a 300 year old house with very thick solid walls so I get really annoying dead spots].

    0:58 the little ridge that goes around the brass fitting fits in the NVME drive recess where the screw would normally secure it to the post and acts as a sort of retention bracket or tab for the drive. It screws into the board from the other side. Many PCIE NVME/M.2 SATA adaptors use them because they're about as low profile as you can get. It acts as both the post and the screw, this way board doesn't have an m.2 nut that has to be removed to fit a longer m.2 drive.

    Great case, keeping the raspberry pi OS quite cool.. SD card once inserted in some cases are hard to take out, just because how they mold it, and how it overlaps the complete socket. This doesn't seem to be the issue with this very case here. It is kind of a bummer, that the wifi turned out weak. That is the only thing keeping me away from this. Thanks Lee.
    By the way Lee, Update on Crimson OS: XFCE version was uploaded and today I will upload the LXQT version and finally the Crimson Desktop Edition (CrDE) tomorrow.
    A thing to note: upon installing an app from pi-apps, it initially opens up a terminal and yellow highlighted text begins to appear informing that system is incompatible. However, an additional script has been provided which works after 10 seconds of the message. Thus, an app installation will require 10 seconds wait-time before it actually initializes the install process.
    The reason for this behavior is forking various branches, repositories, which the pi-apps thinks are incompatible.
    Whenever You Get Time,
    Thanks,

    Very good that the PCB and case top have holes for the air flow. Why don't they put the M.2 on the side of the board instead of right above the CPU? An alternative option is to have the M.2 2242 / 2230 *orthogonal to the board, and near the USB plugs* (with a hole in the PCB board where the CPU is located) to keep the air flowing off the CPU. *KDiskMark*, the HDD / SSD benchmark tool, is also very convenient for speed tests (Qt based, no dependencies to KDE although the name may suggest the opposite)

    I respect the engineering here but is that fan intake not being blocked on top with all the solutions? Unfortunately the major fail of all this is either not allowing enough height for airflow OR if it's underneath then it'd be potentially blocking several ports with a ribbon cable (unless it was customized in some other way).

  • @seansysig

    If you feed the cable thru the hole before attaching and clamping you remove the possibility of cracking ribbon cable wires.

    Almost looks like it could take a Pimoroni NVMe base on the bottom, almost. Bit more space and ribbon cable consideration would be the crux there. Prefer a base-fitted one, keeps your cooling options open. Using a modded Raspberry case with mine currently, and NVMe base works well. But really would like a metal larger one when the market selections stabilise, or something that's just - that one jumps out. Have to pop the lid off the Rasberry one for those peak moments and the heatsink cooler(good price that one Raspberry).
