I love how Chuck, over the years, seems to be understanding more physics.
Same, it goes to show he isn't just sitting there waiting to make jokes, but rather he is actively engaged and interested in the conversation.
I don't think anyone who spends time with The Tyson can pass themselves off as "uneducated." With all the years he and Chuck have hung out, The Nice could run his own show if he wanted to!

That is because its a new revelation in science. This is a break through in science that may or may not be right. It has to be tested and proven just like everything else its a hypothesis that need to be a theory to be proven. But yes this is NEW Science. The revelation you have is no different from the scientist that created the theory within the last 5 years

I love how Chuck is embodiment of everyone of us, who actually didn't knew much about astro physics when this journey was started but over the years with such great communicators and teachers in the show, we all now feel at home now.
While it's still a long way to go, but we all are so much more knowledge richer than when we started listening to this wonderful show.

I used to vehemently hate Neil because i thought he was arrogant, and a know it all, and obnoxious. This was difficult due to my love of cosmology and science at large. He would come up in numerous videos I watched and he just sort of became a necessary evil in my search for understanding of the universe. But the more he came up, and the more I listened, and heard not just what he said, but also how he said it, and who he is and what his mission is as a human, I can now say I genuinely adore the man. I say this because as I was listening to his monologue at the end and I was staring into his eyes, I realized how much I love and respect him as a scientist and a fellow human, and was struck with this weird feeling that I somehow used to despise the man. Listening to a persons words and learning their heart can change yours. If there is someone you hate today... maybe give them another chance, maybe 10 or 20 or 100 more chances, like I did, and you may very well realize your hate is simply misunderstanding, or your own ignorance.
Thanks Neil for making the Human Race a group I'm proud to be a part of.

@@user-dj9iu2et3r I think people mistake a knowledgeable person's passion as arrogance sometimes. Mistaking - especially scientist's knowledge - as absolute, when in reality we're all discoverers and we're all ignorant. Science is just the most efficient method by which we've discovered to make accurate predictions and useful products, so far.
I doubt any scientist alive believes we're even 1% of the way along revealing everything in their specific field - compared to the vast uncharted worlds of knowledge our descendents will discover this millennium alone.

Nice Episode. I believe so much of our human understanding is limited within perception, translation, communication. We I try to conceptualize my understanding of things I end up questioning so much. I love listening and watching episodes to hear thoughts on things that I can trust have data behind them. I might question the translation of some data but I don't have the resources to look into most of what I question so hearing scientists who are still curious is refreshing.

She does an absolutely phenomenal job of explaining complex ideas. And even more impressive, she manages to stay coherent and focused through the constant (I mean CONSTANT) interruptions and peripheral inputs Neil offers. I would have loved to hear her complete her thoughts/arguments to completion. I bet she would’ve have developed them even more impressively.
Yeah but if you notice Neil is mostly throwing in science jokes and a lot of “normal” explanations so other non sciencey people would understand
Janna is the first guess I can relate too. The Quantum world makes me question the nature of reality too.
The fault of that is more from physicists losing track of what is "reality" and what isn't. Especially the "is math invented or discovered" argument. Math is a language created to DESCRIBE reality. It isn't reality itself. And so the continuation of that is how you have this "quantum wave function", which is just describing probabilities, being treated as reality itself rather than just a description of it. The grass outside is reality. The word "grass" is the description of that reality. The grass is real, the word "grass" isn't.
@@VaeldargThat’s one interpretation but nobody knows yet what the true interpretation is. It could be that the wave function is actually what is there, and the particle only our way of describing it within spacetime accurately. We can’t assume either way.
@@YivvaMedia Interpretations are not created equal, though. Science isn't about perfect explanations, it is about which one gets the closest. And so the further your interpretation is from reality, it means it is worse, not better.
"It could be that the wave function is actually what is there..." except it can't. Because it's math written just to describe reality and not reality itself. It's a function describing statistical probability, and reality is under no obligation to go by how you describe what you think it is.
Very enjoyable podcast. I listen during my night shift at the grocery store.
The existance of only one electron in the universe that simply runs back anf forth through time can explain a lot. 1) why they the same 2) problems of large numbers: in a universe with a mass of 10^56g approximatly 10^80 electrons and the ratio of the visible universe size to the electrone size exatly 10^40. That is just one layer to go back in time 3) the experiment with two slits is easily explained 4) positrons just electrons moving back in time 5) collision of electron and positron destruction of the loop. Therefore , there are so few of them for the whole structure to work.

Not blown away yet still digesting what was said and forming new questions in a bit of a different direction. Changing the way you investigate relativity with different data input. This way of looking at old formula I think I am able to understand better how a friends discussion on how the bending of light could be the source of gravity without gravitons. And the realization that my friends have a warped way of thinking, but now I see better how they are thinking thanks to Janna Levin and to Star Talk for opening a new door in my way of understanding reality and my warped friends.
How can you fit that much information that can be immediately accessed into one human brain and still not only have enough room left for common sense...but a great sense of humor to top it off...and wrapped up in a beautiful package...

The Borg open a “Trans-Dimensional Rift” which opened a “Gateway” to Species 8472 and when Voyager goes through that Rift they end up in “Fluidic Space” when Space isn’t really Space, it is Matter.
So think of Space as we know it Only it isn’t “Space” it is filled with Matter (Think of moving through water like a Submarine) the Submarine is the spaceship and the water is Space.
(Keeping in mind the “Multiverse” would something like that possible AND how would Physics work in that Realm?

By definition a molecule of H2O is water, it may not be recognizable with the properties of water at the macro scale, in fact as water separates we call it vapor or steam.
General relativity and quantum mechanics will never be combined until we realize that they take place at different
moments in time. Because causality has a speed limit(c)
every point in space where you observe it from will be the closest to the present moment. When we look out into
the universe, we see the past which is made of particles
(GR). When we try to look at smaller and smaller sizes and
distances, we are actually looking closer and closer to the present moment (QM). The wave property of particles appears
when we start looking into the future of that particle. It is a probability wave because the future is probabilistic.
Wave function collapse happens when we bring a particle into the
present/past. GR is making measurements in the predictable
past. QM is trying to make measurements of the probabilistic future

This perspective is very interesting, but it oversimplifies the complexities of unifying GR and QM.
It overlooks the spacetime continuum's role, the current theoretical efforts like string theory, and the various interpretations of quantum mechanics beyond the Copenhagen interpretation.
Oh, I like that.
I think Roger Penrose would expand on that and say- at great distances when individual particles can have no interaction with any other particle, the scale of space collapses. What was a hot vibrating particle no longer has a reference against which it can be seen to be vibrating - so it becomes totally cold - totally organised.That is the state of Entropy swaps state when scale and relative position can not be measured.
I'd like to add - information, the observation of any interaction, the structure of relationships is also scale dependent, like one H2O molecule is not 'water', but two of them may be able to interact AS water. They observe each other.
I love the chord analogy - a chord is more than the assembly of individual notes, because of the overtones between those notes.

@@lonesom And neither have you if you interject every time someone else talk. Neil is notorious for this. He's always loud and obnoxious, and he always talk over and interrupts everyone. It's even more noticeable on panel debates where he's impossible to deal with. Even when he's moderating debates he talks way more than the participants. It’s interesting how Neil and Janna explain the unfolding of “the big picture” in changes with scientific theory. I wonder if the assumption that “science is ‘about’ overthrowing the old theory” comes as a consequence of political thinking.

If I had to drink every time these two interrupted her while she was speaking with their feeble attempts at humor, I'd be dead. She's obviously the smartest person in the room, but the egos or the manners (or both) on the other two are so out of line that they just can't shut up and let her finish a complete thought.

Maybe they have bad timing and don't mean bad. I don't understand why they would invite her otherwise. I really believe they try to make the discussion also light-hearted for the audience. I understand it can be annoying if you want it more serious , I find it refreshing in between more serious physics videos that exist
@@astralmeaning111 Humor is fine, but they literally just keep stepping on her comments in a very rude way. I found it horrible. And Chuck has no business even being there. He’s not funny, not educated, and just drags every video down.

@@bryantrodriguez6288 Yes she was, and you can clearly tell that not only is she brilliant, but she knows how to explain things in terms that the common person (like myself) can understand. Hopefully they'll have her on again soon and practice better manners.

I’ve been watching Startalk since the nat geo days and Janna Levin is easily one of the best guests you have on. I like when guests and the hosts can all be in one room. Face to face interaction is better than webcam interactions, though webcams are convenient and allow guests at a distance to be on that might otherwise not be.
Chuck needs an honorary grad degree with how much he has sponged up over the years. Fabulous to see someone who used to think on a more juvenile level to relate and comprehend on a more upper scale level!
Props to him for being so curious and taking the show serious enough that it benefited him! Keep it going chuck! I remember forever ago you used to joke about StarTalk forever being on the air.......BUT maybe the torch can be passed to you in due time.

So yes, until the Oroboros is filled to satiation it is as a plane of existence. Once filled or satiated the Oroborus opens up to exhibit itself as a spiral and then there is a splitting off akin as to one cell becomes two.
The inversion points are akin to the Guardian of the Above and the Guardian of the below, both of which are our reflections mirroring back to each of us our level of consciousness.
