      @@jessietoney8919 that’s a silly analogy.
      1️⃣ People by nature are fallible, so the same can be said of anyone, ie, a resource officer on the campus. (I hate when people pedestalize law enforcement, like they’re more trained/they couldn’t/wouldn’t snap)
      2️⃣ Background and Mental health checks are going to be utilized in the selection. (Personally, I think monthly rechecks would be phenomenal, and actually should be utilized in law enforcement as well)
      3️⃣ Furthermore, there will be training and deescalation protocols involved. (Again, people are fallible, but a child “talking sideways” isn’t going provoke use of deadly force. And if that did happen, the system failed in hiring that teacher WAAAAY before a firearm was introduced)
      4️⃣ And for the little miscreants bold enough to actually hit a teacher, don’t put the burden on the staff! How about parents raise their little monsters to respect authority and not act like animals. (I’m speaking from the standpoint of a parent)

    I would characterize this legislation as trying to potentially limit loss of life in a potential school shooting event instead of some kind of active call for teachers to use weapons in schools. However, something like this seems to put an unreasonable burden on teachers to be prepared to face a mass casualty event, which to me would fall outside the scope of any teacher's employment. Would a teacher who has permit then be liable if they fail to adequately stop a threat? One thing we have learned is that even with gun regulation (though often stifled by gun lobbyists) is that people find ways to get guns, so in a world where school shootings are no longer an anomaly, maybe having a teacher who is trained to use a gun in class might create deterrence or help to reduce mass casualties. It's kind of an idealism vs reality situation. Ideally, we want more comprehensive gun control. Realistically, this is what we are coming up with.

    • @eliminator173
      @eliminator173 Před 16 dny +1

      Just because you carry doesn't mean you have an obligation to stop a threat. It means you have that option. You can still flee if you want. They aren't forcing the teachers to have a gun. It's a choice.

    How about more education on gun safety in schools so kids will know the dangers of firearms . I grew up around guns my whole life. My father was in the army. I wasn’t allowed to touch my father’s guns. Until I understood the dangers of one and how to clean them , safely use them. The same way my father taught me gun safety. I know teach my kids.

    Do teachers have a say in the matter?
    It's bad enough teachers must be parents, social workers, psychologist, police officers in addition to getting gun training, regular education training.... and a psychological evaluation? ... And not receive double the increase since they're wearing several hats? GTFOOH! How about officers do their damn job instead of passing the responsibility on teachers.

    There is no way to reduce gun violence, if someone who wants a gun can’t get one legally then they can get one from the streets. So when people talk about tougher gun laws it’s pretty much pointless, and not to mention the government cares nothing about us so they want us taking each other out (population control). I agree with teachers being armed, they just need to come up with so kind of safety protocols maybe some kind of lock box in every classroom
