As a retired (longer than you have been alive), service tech.....#15 is the best thing you can do for your health....period. And yes, I have bilateral knee replacements.
Same here. New knees installed in India. Great job!
Old Man impressed by honest hardworking young man.
Your in the right place at the right time
Good Work
Thank You
Thank you John!! :) I appreciate you leaving a comment!
Yes he is
I must disagree with the Knipex pliers, I definitely prefer the cobras, with the button. They’re much more adjustable and if you take care of your tools they never stick.
I think I need him to come out to my house so that he can forget a tool and then I get new tool.
Going to school for HVAC now keep pumping the videos we watch you in class lol
Haha nice! :) It's an honor to have some of my videos make it into classrooms. Thank you for watching and commenting, good luck with school and career!!
Your teacher must be so lazy....
For the cordless screwdriver, I would recommend the not so well known but excellent "NoCry 10 N.m Cordless Electric Screwdriver - with 30 Screw Bits Set, Rechargeable 7.2 Volt Lithium Ion Battery and a Built-in LED Light". I love mine and it's the most powerful small cordless screwdriver out there, I love it.
I know and agree what you are talking about regarding the 1/4" nut driver on the 11 in 1 Klein with its thin wall. I run into that issue often on the capacitor mounts. Very Good advise.
Laser pointer was my favorite🤣
Great tool info. Nice to know the different tools for a new hvac guy. Thank you for your time doing these videos.
Ps. Nice chip bowl. Love it.
Great work. As always, thank you Jay!
Thank you Holt! I appreciate you presence! :)
My favorite CZcams channel by far, keep educating and inspiring.
Thank you Steve! :) Nice to hear that!
Instead of using a kneeling pad just get a folding stool. Been using one for years. So much better then kneeling down to work on furnaces. So even come with storage in them.
Hey everybody don’t get the 11 in 1 he showed (the bigger one) if you’re going to get one get the Klein 11 n 1 with the shrader core remover. Very useful
Magnetic too!
Good call on the Malco Flip Bit !
Great video! These are all great suggestions.
Great vid W O A TV ... I always like to see how tradesters set up their tool bags and see what tools they have in them . You can never learn too much . Much appreciated Jay ...
Thank you Eddy! Glad you liked the second tools video as well! ;) I know how you feel, I enjoy investigating my co-workers tool bags as well! It's like a little treasure hunt to find some interesting tools.
I have every tool on this video lol. He's right for sure, only thing I have different is a bernzomatic butane solder pencil kit. I find its easier to use since you don't need a receptacle.
Came for the tools but the chip bowl was the icing on the cake. Thanks!
when i fixed my outdoor AC unit.. using a tutorial from this channel.. my hex screws were very rusted.. that flip bit would have been VERY helpful!
Glad to hear my video helped you get your AC unit fixed! Even without the "cheat" tools you got it done ;) Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!
You are a great instructor. Very helpful for DIY guys.
I like malco 1/4 and 5/16 a lot, but there is 1 thing 1 don't like. the wall is too thick, I hope that they make smaller wall.
I agree! Luckily it doesn't seem to be a problem too often but the thick walls do get in the way.
if you want a thinner wall, chuck it up in a drill with one hand, and use an angle grinder with the other hand. and grind the wall thinner while simultaneously spinning the drill.
spinning the drill in the same direction as the grinding wheel seems to feel a little smoother.
Wall too thick on most Flame sensor
This is done... coming soon :)
And 1 year after your comment, they now make one with a smaller wall. It's still too thick though.
Love your videos man I'm 19 in school right now to get my Hvac certification I got 1 more semester left. I really do love this field
Glad to hear you're liking the videos Roronoa! When I was 19 I was in the middle of my accounting degree lol, so I think you are off on a great start!! You started with HVAC right off the bat. Good luck in your career, I am sure you will do well!
Wow.. thank you for sharing tose tools and their functions
Love it love it 👍
Excellent, thanks. Regarding non-contact voltage detectors, for just 5 more dollars you can have a Klein or Fluke. They are worth it.
The only non contact voltage I trust ( as a Spark. ) , is the Fluke . It has been spoofed by transients , but has never given me a false negative !
Thank you for the voltage pen recommendation!
Brilliant! Thank you for effort to put this video together! I was working on my own furnace last week and needed at least half of your recommend tools. As usual, I got the job done but boogered up my knuckles. I'm placing my order on Amazon today ... !
You're most welcome! I'm happy to be able to introduce you to some nice new tools! :) May your next repair job be a walk in the park!
Showin love from Hawaii man!!🤙🏾
This was a nice general thorough presentation bro. Very well presented
Knee pads are good but the main way that I keep the pressure off my knees is by using my Milwaukee shop vac as a stool to sit on. Works well enough and reduces time on my knees by like 90%.
The 11 in 1 Heavy Duty , has better bit retention , than the standard iteration . Good call on the 6 in 1 stubby !
thin wall is a game changer on the nut driver
Thanks much bro for this video...much appreciate
Very useful video --- there were several items that I probably will purchase. I'm not a heating - air cond. tech, just an around-the- house, occasional fix-it guy.
That's good to hear! I'm happy to hear that I was able to introduce you to some good tools ;)
Someone once asked me to borrow a “screwdriver”. Without asking him what kind, I just handed him my 11 in 1. To my dismay, he really didn’t want a screwdriver, he wanted a prybar to lift a raised floor tile. Needless to say, when the tool was returned, he handed it to me point up because he knew that the bit would now fall out. Once you try to pry anything with an 11 in 1, you knock the bit holder out of shape and nothing will “ click” into place. Now I have an 11 in 1 for parts . Had to buy a new one. Lesson learned.😩
Thanks so much for all your videos and the clear presentations. You have helped me so much as a DIY. Just wondering what gauge and kind of wire do you use for splicing two broken wires together in a heat pump and/or an air handler? Can you use a lower gauge such as 12 to splice together a broken 14 gauge wire? I suppose what I am trying to ask is do you keep one gauge wire with you on service calls or different gauge wires and if so do you know if Amazon, etc. sells it in a bundle (similar to thermostat wire but different size wire gauge) and what is the best wire to use. Just trying to think ahead if I come across a broken wire in my heat pump due to mice, etc. Again, thanks for all you do and thanks for your time!
That stubby is a must.
Thanks so much!
Ty great video
You're welcome, thanks for watching!!
You mentioned the cool flashlight in the first but gotta have the headlamps my man!
Thanks for your videos!
I use to be a Klein guy. Now I use the Milwaukee 9 & 1 tool & can use those bit on your drill. Making my tool bags a lot lighter.
Merry Christmas dear friend. I love your videos. Please keep sharing your knowledge and skills.
Thank you Lee! Merry Christmas to you and family as well!
Awesome video.. thanks
Great video
My meter has a built-in ac detector. Kobalt has a nice small ratcheting kit also. A rigid palm impact should be in this video as its the tool I, as a 10 year veteran tech, use the most.
I've been in the trade for decades and I've never needed a soldering iron
It’s not the best way, but you can get a customer by, by repair soldering a circuit board until the correct OEM board arrives. Its not a permanent fix, but it can, and will get you by.
Nice video tanks
excellent presentation, thank you. don't forget the micro screw driver set for thermostat. I keep loosing mine or forget to put in my tool bag, it's frustrating. lol
The sound of the ratchet reminds me of progress. It is very rewarding...
Thanks
I bought a Cresent brand pair of the adjustable alligator wrench instead of knipex. Is that alright? I know knipex are probably better but i was wondering if the kind I bought would still work. they are 10"
Would you be able to still put the reversible bit on the mini ratchet?
This is a great tips to get some tools to work on the field but to take care to my own heater,do I need all of them?
I recommend using a magnetic tray from harbor freight $5 for holding down a furnace door switch .
I'd like to recommend a tool. I'm a fan of going hands free with my lighting option by using a headlamp when I am working. I have found that the Streamlight Bandit best suits my needs. It's a USB rechargeable headlamp that fits on the brim of a baseball cap.
Looks like a nice small headlamp! Thank you for the recommendation!
John Lennon. Another old man here. Enjoy every single tutorial.
Thank you for always watching and commenting! :) It's an honor to have the old and wise present!
My list would be very different, but whatever gets the job done for you!
You can find the 1” round mirrors at some autoparts for $1 like the one at 17:17
So what size Kippex alligator pliers do you recommend? On this video is looks like you have the 10".
Please tell us about CO Monitor , Combustion Analyses . what are the good cheap ones . how to test
Can you do some on the job repairs and how to diagnose the problems you come across?
I like using knee pads vs. a kneeling pad because of the mobility convenience.
Brilliant! the multi tools are great to get you out of a spot but you cant beat an apprentice with a tool bag and the right tools for the job to make life easiest. Multi tools have too much slack. But then so can an apprentice..
Nice video
Forget the skil drill, get a rigid palm impact, its smaller, its 12v and no trigger so it goes into very tight spots and it has the power to get and hvac screw out
Enjoy all of your vids. As a CNC tech I had small and larger screw electric screw drivers. Some power supplies have 15 screws connections + 5/16 or 7/16 nuts. Not to mention the 480 volts incoming a lot of screws and nuts. I got rid all of them now I only carry this one.
I found the best electric screw driver
for control direction and speed + torque .
The DEWALT gyroscopic in line screwdriver #DCF682N1.
Check it out it is worth the money
On that mini ratchet make your wish come true and just take off the 8mm 10mm 12mm, and put 1/4" drive sae's they should just snap on as well.
Indeed! I don't know why I drew a blank with that one but thank you for providing the easy solution! :) I still wish it would be part of the kit though.. So that they have their own plug in place in that triangular bracket thing.
Also the narrow jaw on the Knipex fits into tight spaces.
lmfao the first 1 happens to be my favorite i got a 6 inch, 4inch, and 1 inch
Very cool stuff. Especially the chip bag bowl 👍 Lots of great tools too.
My guess on the tool that ratchets but you can’t hear it, is so it will ratchet no matter how easy the screw turns when unscrewing it?
Thanks Mr. Classic! I am not sure about that.. As far as I understood, their highlight is that they move smooth and lock on instantly so that there's no need to wait for the next gear tooth to catch.
@classic287 I don't have much experience with gearless ratchets though so this is new to me as well. Maybe someone else will come along who has more experience with them and will be able to tell us the pros and cons :)
Word of Advice TV, I guess it’s just too sophisticated for us to grasp 😁
@classic287 Haha there you go, must be too high tech! ;)
I believe so too. Many normal small ratchets stop catching once screw is to loose. These ratchetless solve that issue
I bought 2 of the reversible hex bits
You will love it! :) Great little tool
Only gripe with malco double side tips is the magnet always falls out 😂
Just put tape on the door switch because when it stops working sometimes you can't see the flashing light thru the little glass and you have to remove the door if the switch isn't taped it kills the low voltage and you lose the code it was flashing so you have to let it time out and hope it flashes the code again
Malco flip bit is coming out with a new version 5/16 x 3/8
2 little questions. One did you need a 2 stage t stat for a 2 stage furnace? And two is it ok to hose down the electrical compartment of a condenser as long as the power is off? The inside to clean it. Would really appreciate some insight.
No and yes
Depends on the furnace and NO
Hosing down the electrical compartment would be like hosing down your computer. Probably not a good idea. And no. In most cases you do not need a 2 stage thermostat for a 2 stage furnace. The circuit boards on the furnaces now will usually switch to high stage after a certain amount of time (eg: 15min)
I do have stainless steel brushes for my drill to clean flame sensor a stool.. and you forgot the Braun led flashlight
Great suggestions! Thank you Andres!
Any of you guys know of a small tool to get drybulb and wetbulb?
Those all good tools, what do you think about leatherman ? Thank you for sharing ^_^
That clc kneeling pad is definitely a must best $40 I ever spent. They have a furnace door switch magnet called the ol switcharoo it’s works on every application check it out
I agree! It's a nice kneeling pad :) And that door switch depressor!! That's the one I was going to buy but forgot the name of it so I ended up buying the Supco one instead! Darn it.. I think the Old Switcheroo is better than what I have. Thank you for pointing that out! I will add that to the video description as well.
I use electrical tape
I definitely prefer the alligator over the cobra pliers 👍
mini ratchet set is not on amazon, thank you for enlightening infors.
Definitely inspired by your channel, keep the awesome videos coming. 👍👍👍
from the way you made the chip bowl, I would say that the best tools are your brain and your hands. haha
Great point! It's not the tools that make a great technician right? :) And thank you!
Ok, you showed us what we should have in our tool bag .
You left out the most important one ......... THE TOOL BAG 😂.
I see most techs using a small pail or even a cardboard box. Everyone has their own favorite .
There’s an HVAC Klein 11in1 that has the Schrader remover
Tool bag/box recommendation?
Milwaukee local 18 sheet metal, 3rd year👍👍👍💪💪💪
Question, which is the best digital multimeter ???
I really like the uei phenix
You could be the next Billy Mays ( - : "It also comes with yada yada..."
For some reason, Hilmor prices their tools like all HVAC techs are independently wealthy.

Best Flearing tuls
You want to come to my house and leave a souvenir
If your here and your legit excited to watch this on a Saturday night... you are getting old
Very nice tools but I can't get those to buy wish I could get some
Klein 4 in 1 precision screwdriver.
Ok great now I don't feel bad I lose thermometers all the time just bought 4 new ones
Drive the cat wild ! ! !
Tile locators?
Glad to hear I’m not the only one who leaves tools at their customers houses.
Gets annoying and expensive
Haha I think that's all of us! Losing tools is part of the trade I guess. Although if the tool is more expensive I will make an effort to try to go back and track it down...
You could just follow him around and eventually have every tool you need.
18:21 its the little things, hehe
