Really like the vintage tools.
B&Q
Tool station
Screw fix
Wickes are all owned by same company.
It would be interesting to see what £100 could get you.
To see which it’s best value for money.
How are you going to charge the drill batteries as there was no charger in the case.
@@Aloh-od3efI thought it was Screwfix = B&Q, Toolstation, Wicks = Travis Perkins? Or used to at least.
I’m a firm believer that when you’re starting out you buy loads of cheap stuff then as they die off replace with higher quality. Plus it means you’re not spending a fortune on something you rarely use.
Yea that stanley screwdriver set is cheap and awesome. I started with that and only bought the most used type of drivers from a more expensive line/brand.
I am in complete agreement with you my friend! You coming to Makers this year?
I started with cheap screwdrivers. Sadly, it took me a few years to realise I saw spending money on cheap tools.
I've started replacing cheap tools with much better quality ones as the cheap ones die. As you said. Good way to see what you actually use compared with what you buy THINKING you need.
@@ShadowFoam yep sure am matey with the boys my mum & dad again and my wife & her grandad will be with us this year. We actually drove past your warehouse a couple of weeks ago unfortunately we didn’t have time to stop to say hi but the boys were made up. It’s crazy to think you’re only 45 minutes away from us.
Like those Allen keys. I bet the ends blunt quite quickly though but wouldn't mind giving them a test. 👍
You can’t beat looking around the old school tool shops, real Aladdin’s cave.
I don't have much need for tools and I even enjoy doing that.
Any excuse to peruse around the tool shops I’ll take it!
Yup I do that
The great “what!” Shop tool wall !
Really love the concept here. So many people don’t have even the basics of tools. Just shows you can put together a useful kit to cover a range of jobs for not a lot of money.
Thanks mate, happy you enjoyed my little project!
I'd love to see more videos like this. More ideas and hacks for organising tools. I've never seen anything like this before and I'm mega impressed!
I love that you went to a small business and not just the big box stores ⚙
Always happy to drop by Whiteshaws, could never promote them too much! 🙏
The B&M stubby hammer is so underrated. Perfect for little jobs round the house. For £3.50 it's a steal.
Great challenge
The stanley screwdriver set are excellent value
£2 for colour allan keys is brilliant
Sister brand Bahco has some nice sets aswell, they come in a box, not throw away blisterpack.
You're a man after my own heart. I'm impressed by your tool cache, especially that drill; it may be used, but I bought a used Makita a few years back & it's still going strong...! 😁 I love buying tools, just in case I need them... 😄👍
Thanks mate, nice to hear that!
Used by the owner before stolen. Anyone that bought it would of used it for years if it hadn’t been taken out their van.
@@danielfisher-gh8el You referring to me or to the author? I bought mine from a reputable shop. I can give you the address if you like. 👍
@@danielfisher-gh8elpossible but not always the case, I sold all my old Makita tools when I switched to Milwaukee
Great video, better than anything on TV. The drill was the best bargain.
Haha thanks for that compliment!
I love your enthusiasm for all things tools. I’ve been trying to build up a proper tool kit and have enjoyed watching your CZcams video’s
Thanks mate, appreciate the kind words! How’s your tool kit looking so far?
Love having a good rummage around old hardware shops! Perfect little budget kit there! Keep up the good work. Love the colour coded keys by the way😉
So do I! A bargain at twice the price!
I’m just starting to put my first toolkit together and this video has been great inspiration. Thank you!
I know its not really shopping at BnM but a few years ago i purchased an lidl table saw. The name of it is ferrex. I use it pretty much most of the time and ive never ever had any problems with it. For the money it does the job just fine. Ive no complaints about it.
I bought a Makita drill last year, came with all the bits plus a screwdriver set and spirit level. Was absolutely blown away with it!
How much was that like?
Excellent video ! The shopping trip was fascinating and I love your bargaining style - friendly and you get what you need. As always, the foam layout is just awesome - I never get bored of watching that - you must have been brilliant at Tetris back in the day ! To end up with a comprehensive toolkit for £100 is amazing. Sure, some pieces may need to be replaced over time, but that gives you everything you need for the home enthusiast.
Discovered your page last night and watched a few of your videos, great to see a youtuber who just cracks on with what there doing no messing and honest
Pretty nifty little tool kit, as a apprentice mechanic buying all the tools has been a challenge on the ridiculously low wage, now I’ve got a good kit in work now building my at home kit slowly to at home jobs 👌 I reckon you need to do a Temu kit next!
Been needing to sort out my toolbox and get some bits I've been missing. Think you've finally given me the motivation to do it without breaking the bank.
You’re welcome mate, let me know how you get on! 👍
Top quality video, definitely be trying this ahead of moving into my new house. Keep up the good work.
This is a good way to go when you're just starting out and then upgrade as you go when things break or wear out. I don't think i'd bother with a spanner set if it was me as they're not used much, maybe just an adjustable to cover yourself with the occasional nut and bolt.
Love this, great to see a Northwich lowdown for people to get up and running with tools. I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.
The repurposing and use of the combi drill case was an act of genius. Loved the challenge and what you achieved.
Thanks mate! Got very lucky it was included in the purchase!
Absolutely love going around the small tool shops you never know what you may find
Absolutely! You just never know!
In my tinkering days owning a T2 campervan I started exactly like this and just progressed as I went along preferring Halfords professional as they have lifetime guarantee.
I returned a 3ft breaker bar that broke after failing to remove the flywheel with a scaffold bar as leverage with no issues.
My go to Philips screwdriver though was a cheap thing from Wilco I think?
Great video👍
Everything you need in your basic tool kit the makita drill was a good buy I love the makita brand myself
Same here! Have you seen our Makita power tool wall video?
It was really interesting watching your search for a bergin tool kit. I do sometimes pick up bargin tools to repurpose, and you did really well with the drill.
Great video for anyone trying to build up a basic tool kit loved the video 👌
A great and well thought out layout. Yes, I could do with some replacement Allen keys 🙏
Love watching these videos as planning on sorting my tools out and my paintball kit, I like the good videos showing the range of tools and it's not all about spending like other channels!
Absolutely it’s not all about spending! Especially in times like this, I want to show how easy it can be to save money and organise your tools 👍
@@ShadowFoam the new lease of life that you bring as well to things like the Ryobi bags or other things that may have gathered dust or not be used to full potential is great as well, love seeing what ideas and layouts you as well as others create, like you said, saves money to then use on better quality as les waste!
Just to say about the orange handled flip over screwdriver. I have had one for many years but a Draper brand one. The bits on the draper have lasted me all this time with the last 16 years spent as a handyman. Good piece of kit.
That is a great bit of kit! 16 years is nothing to sniff at!
Great video! Colour coded keys by far the best find, close second for the snips. The multiway screw drivers are brilliant, we used to get them with network routers.
Glad you enjoyed the video mate! 👍
I love old school tool shops and have used my local one for years. It's been in the same family for generations, they know me by name and the more you shop there the more you can get cheeky and ask for a deal.
Haha very much so and those cheeky deals can really add up!
Just stumbled across your channel, i really like how you show that shopping around is better than just blowing your cash in one store, good old-fashioned common sense.👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Not a bad set up for the price and a fun video to watch. I would still need a wood saw, pair of clamps and wood glue to make it complete for basic DIY for me. Nice find on the Allen keys too.
Female Diyer here. I started my tool collection from pound shop, brought some nice screwdrivers, tape measures, knife set ect from there, £1. I still find some good deals. If you are starting off, you can't go wrong with poundshop or BM without breaking the bank.
Absolutely! Can’t go wrong with good quality regardless of price!
I was looking to get myself a tool box but feared for the cost, gave the confidence to shop around and build it up slowly and wisely. Thank you!
Go for it! Let me know how you get on!
It blew my mind seeing the drill bits UNDER the drill. So simple and yet hugely effective! Great video ❤
Glad you liked it! 😅
When i started as an apprentice Electrician, my tool kit was as basic and cheap as you could imagine. 32 years later my gears now worth thousands. Start small and grow as you do.I've still got my Footprint 12" square❤
Just come across your channel, and I've also just subscribed, I'm all for budgeting and the way you do it really relates, I must admit that Stanley screwdriver set looks a good buy and its amazing how much you can get done with a good set of drivers, keep doing what your doing it's a good watch
Nice selection. I remember having one of those orange handled screwdrivers, and you're right it was great until you lost the flippable bits! Nice work!
Ha ha absolutely! Luckily I’ve got a load of additional bits
This is a great tool video mate thank you, looking forward to watch more content 👍
Got a few more £100 tool kits coming up! 👍
Lovely way to shop. I Do love the old hardware shops, Will have to pop into B&M for a set of those screwdrivers as they are always useful. Cheers
You should!
No bad kit for starters, a lot of my stuff comes from Amazon apart from my drills and drill bits, because I think when it comes to drills and drill bits the quality makes a hell of a difference 🇬🇧
Loved this challenge . Proper wheelin dealing going on also .
I'm a new subscriber and love this idea, my husbands tools in his shed are everywhere and also loves your idea with the foam case you made to sit all your tools, it's given me an idea for him for father's day.
Thanks for subbing! Let me know if you need any help or advice down the line! 👍
Brilliant video you just got a new subscriber - As part of my daily job I teach people DIY basics and I'm forever saying buy the cheaper options then if its something you enjoy expand onto the better tool kit and of its not then you've saved a few quid and have a basic tool kit. So this video really resonated with me :)
Thanks for the sub! Happy to meet someone so like minded!
this is a great video as people on a limited budget can get some great ideas from these sort of videos! i have tools for basic jobs on my car and around the house and this has given me some good ideas so thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful! What stood out to you?
@@ShadowFoam the thing that was most helpful was you looking at similar tools in different shops as it gives a great idea of the differences and pricing! also i always love how you handle the foam and in this one making it fit the bag and drill case was great! i will definitely be getting some and trying to get my own tool box organised!
I had the hacksaw that you purchased. It was used a lot to make models for my cousin's HO train layout. I used to have a lot of fun spending hours on that layout. Ah the good old days, Love your content, keep up the great job.
Thanks Walter! How long did you have the hacksaw for?
Think the Soft Stanley bag is really handy to have if you don't have many tools or much space to store a larger toolkit, especially for someone new to DIY or just for that basic set for the odd job. Great video
Very handy indeed and made those screwdrivers an even better deal! 👍
I got that set and popped a couple of other bits I had spare in to be my quick grab kit under the kitchen sink to save going out to the shed for decent gear if there was a quick job or for flatpack etc
Loved the video, some great bargains there! Subscribed now so just had a binge watch some of your past videos 😊 would love to add those Allen keys to my toolkit fingers crossed 🤞
Wicked video! Love looking at the tools in the most unlikely places!!👍🏼
Love this video. Shows what you can do on a budget. Love the local DIY treasure trove shops, have a couple down near me.
What shops and whereabouts are you?
Seen those 6 in 1 screwdrivers before, I had a job where we were installing routers in telephone boxes and the router was supplied with one of those, its the most useful screwdriver I've ever had, I stashed a box full and I've slowly used them over the 15 years or so. Ran out last year but managed to find identical ones (just a different colour) on one of the chinese web sites, order a bunch while they were still available. Stanley stuff has always been good to me, its basic but reliable. Good find on the Makita drill, used Makita for years and the only issue I ever had was batteries wearing out because I used them too much. All in all a good haull and good call using your local small suppliers, always a few good bargains to be had in the smaller places.
Thanks Jimi! Top job bulk buying from the supplier, can’t say I haven’t done that in the past!
Great video again man.. I'll drive up from torquay to that shop at the end.. cheers Shane
I’m sure you’ll get some great bargains if you tell them Jona shone sent you 😅
Thanks I really enjoyed that 👍 like you said at the end. A car boot sale is a good place for bargains. I'd recommend finding a local big car boot sale. There should be more going on in the summer. And you need to get there early. Very early to get the best things.
Great tip! I’ll definitely do that mate!
I love the way you make everything fit. You are the Tetris King. My wife can fit all the pots and pans etc in the cupboards. She is the Terris Queen. I know about the man draw. I found about 25 disposable utility knives when I sorted it out a few weeks ago.its a filing cabinet but I have one draw for power tools one for electronic tools like meters and battery chargers etc. This was r the first time I’ve seen your channel.. enjoyed the video cheers Ritchie A.
Sounds like you’ve got your man drawers organised Richie love it!
I'm from the USA and those Allen keys are nice I'm loving them.
Love the idea of the challenge, looks like I will be sending for some foam as I badly need organising. Great video.
You can do it!
This had no right to be so entertaining. I've not done much DIY aside from some automotive stuff, but I'm buying a house at the moment so I definitely want to assemble a bit of a home DIY kit, this is great inspiration. I'm more of an online shopper usually, but going and having a look around some shops especially places like Whiteshaws and Pound Bargains, hopefully there are some similar shops local to me.
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Brilliant Job! Great Video! If my hubby went in these shops i think I'd have to send out a search party😂😂😂 He loves shops like that!
😅😅😅 luckily I have a camera man who can keep me on time
I want the 'inbus' Allen keys. Disadvantage of set is they usually max out at 10mm. For those little tap extensions and so on that come without external hook for your Bahco/adjustable wrench these days, replacing it with iternal Allen cut out, at 12/13mm depending on brand. I ended up grinding the head on some M8 bolts.
You’re in the tombola mate good luck!
Always great to see what kind of kit you can get on a tight budget
Which tool stood out to you?
@@ShadowFoam never thought of second hand shops for power tools!
First time visiting your channel. Loved this video; some great inspiration for which tools to start up with.
Thanks Lewis, welcome to the channel!
Loved the video! Definitely the drill set with batteries and case for me!
First vid ive seen and really liked this, I used shadow foam for my tool chest when I worked in a garage. I have those exact Allen keys along with its torx siblings. Absolutely agree with people saying buy cheap then replace with expensive. I ended up buying more niche tools letting me do hard jobs, easier than if I had spent £90 on a ratchet. Also when your cheap tool breaks and you need it to work just that one more time it makes you a better worker to "professionally bodge" a tool 😅
OMG I stumbled across your channel and this episode scratches my neatness OCD of storing tools! Stunning and super jealous 🎉😊
Haha thank goodness you found us 😅
Great idea this helps loads of people out to get s idea of what to buy 👍
Glad it was helpful!
I think that the whole idea of this is genius for a home diyer it's great to see something like this. The Stanley screwdriver set is great but I like the way you went about the spanners. Great video buddy
Thank you very much! Hope others will be inspired to find those bargains that are out there! 👍
I love my tools & I have a lot, every time I use them I wipe them clean ready for the next job, so seeing these set in the foam makes my eyes 😍 love watching these videos 👌🏼
Right on! Good on you looking after your tools!
The screwdriver set in my foam LED wall is Stanley. Good enough for bashing DIY around the house. Have a MAC Jessie James set that are slightly better quality when needed. You do need to be careful with the bit set though. They are a little soft.
To be fair I agree with you and will likely switch out the bit set for something more robust!
I like that canvas bag setup with the two layers of foam inside. I thought about gluing the two layers back to back then a plywood handle between them to help take them out, guess you couldn't lay the two pieces side by side then when removed. Some good deals you got there, would be difficult to beat and include an impact drill.
You can miss me out of the draw, I already have waaaay too many allen key sets.
That's a great idea! I’ll think of a video project to do that for!
Love this video - just shows what you can do for very little 👍
Amazing what you can find when you take the time to shop around.
Absolutely! The savings do add up!
you can use the imperial in the uk if you round off a 10mm nut wack the smaller imperial socket on to it, done it before works great
Good video and a useful piece of info on what is and isn’t necessary
Glad it was helpful! What tool stood out to you?
Blue spot are under rated for your standard DIY. Very cheap to replace when they break but still get the Job done
Thanks for letting me know! Do you have a lot of Blue Spot?
Fairly sure that Power Plus multi tool is one I've had in my tool bag for 10+ years! I definitely recognise the packaging!
I brought a Makita drill set with impact driver, it might be me leaving it a long time and not charging it for a long time, and when I tried to use and charge it up all I get is flashing red ( where it flashes twice then repeats over and over again), I even left it charging overnight and it will not charge. So I brought a Worx set, with it the batteries can be used on any Worx machine, which includes a chainsaws and pressure washer
Have you tried having the drill fixed?
You know what, that idea to go cash generators was brilliant. I recently had to buy a combi drill and was looking on FB marketplace, could hardly find any decent one so I settled and bought new from B&Q. Next time ill have a look in there first. Thanks mate!
Good video on a decent starter set reminds me of how my first tool kit
Glad you enjoyed it
Love this vids showing that you can do it on a budget keep smashing it lad
Thanks Branden! Which tool stood out to you?
Halfords are great for screwdriver kits and always worth a visit. Also Aldi and Lidl aswell.
Great tip!
I’m liking the selection you got from a budget ! Especially nowadays when money is tight enough as it is.
I bought a Mac allister from bnq about 10 years ago, over time I have bought loads of different tools like impact drill and impact right hand impact, a circular saw and multi tool cutter, I bought the extra tools from eBay, I have spare batteries and chargers that I bought cheap from eBay, for a tool set for home they have earned there money, I still buy them if I see them as the batteries charge quick but last a while and the little circular saw is a god send, definitely not Bosch or hitachi but they are brilliant, I have decent tools because I need a percussion drill for my walls, apart from the percussion, I would happily use the Mac allister for years for my life time at home and because of the many of batteries and drills and the batteries fully charge in about half an hour. Best buy and I was in bnq I see a new drill from same brand, I am very interested in buying it but need to go with out the wife lol, just remembered that I have a sander too
I really like the way you can cut things so close to each other and the shadow foam still retains its strength. Can’t wait to come and see you at makers with my wood stains 👍🏻
Looking forward to seeing those wood stains at Makers mate! 👍
I've still got that old B&Q screwdriver. I bought it back in the late 90s for my RC cars. Well made, but yep, never been able to find any bits for it so it just sits in my tool case now for nostalgia 😅
Sorry to hear that about the bits but can’t beat a bit of nostalgia! 👍
Love that teal colour! Another great layout idea.
Thanks so much!
Carboot kit must be done!
Also I’ve got to say .. The wham heavy duty storage boxes from Halfords are great value for money. Can take a right beating and keep your gear protected/dry. I’ve used them for years now for camping gear but have always thought they’d lend themselves well for tools if shadowfoamed!
Might come in handy for any future budget friendly builds. 👀
Keep em coming 🤙
Carboot kit will be done I assure you! Thanks for the tip on storage boxes, I’m sure I’ll follow that up in the future!
I do like the Aldi middle isles for some tool bargains, They have done me proud on many a job and many are not bad quality.
This is awesome. I want to try this challenge as well now
You should! Let me know what you manage to get for £100! 👍
I have that same measuring tape you got in home bargains and I thought it was great, metal body, autolocking and has lasted me a good few years now as the house diy tape.
Happy to hear it’s been so reliable to you!
Like your thinking, turning a simple home kit for the occasional & simple DIY tasks into something with the look of a pro's means it's no longer chucked in drawer but on display for creditability! By the way, I found Poundland have evolved their tool choices overtime with current from previous Tommy Walsh to current Hanson stuff decent (e.g., I often reach for their smaller hammer of which I have 3 dotted around the home, garage & shed!). Thanks for another useful & in-depth real-life video!
I’ll definitely be checking out Poundland tools in the future, thanks for the tip mate!
Great haul… the Allen keys have to be the sale of the century, and being ball ended are great for wriggling into hard to reach locations where you can’t get bang in line with the bolt head 😄
Norman gave me a great deal, must’ve been inpressed by my Mike Brewer impression! 👍
love this type of video awesome, i would have liked to see where screwfix fitted in
Great video, the best way to start a tool kit.
Fantastic video. Really enjoyed watching you find some gems in those lesser known shops
Me too, I love finding a real hidden gem!
Hi Shadow Form been watching for a while but to honest never really subscribe to watching videos as im abit old fashioned and worry about the hacks but after seeing the great give away couldn't resist to be honest and watching you in the past love the way you form tool boxes & the best of all is the great work you do by placing them to the wall for tool storage was one of the great invention since peg board & looks much more professional & nice to admire once all work is done NOT like you get with Peg boards. Anyways hope you add me to the draw and keep up the great work you all do at
SHADOW FORM...
Thank you for subscribing! I’ve added you to the draw, welcome to Shadow Foam friend!
Great video just shows you shopping around on a budget does help
Absolutely and that bargains are around every corner, they just need looking for!
Great video really enjoy your content. I've still got a Snap-on screwdriver thats been a favourite of mine for 35-years.
35 years! Incredible! 👍
