I’m a beginner DIY, and I’m always beating myself up over the cuticles, especially when working with gel. I struggle so much with that area, from manicures to doing the nails, it’s so hard! Hearing you say not to beat yourself up over it, I feel a whole lot better.

it’s so easy to make “mistakes” around the cuticle and most nail techs in salons don’t do perfect cuticle work either. it takes lots and lots of practice and it’s totally okay to see a lip or edge when it grows out some! like she said, don’t beat yourself up over it, encourage yourself to do better next time and leave the past where it belongs; in the past.

@@actuallyallison4931 ehhh it's not really "ok" to send someone home with sub par work when they are paying full price, if you're giving discounts and they know you're still practicing then fine but if I go to a professional place their shouldn't be a lip because that causes lifting which costs you the client more money in the long run because instead of being able to just pay for a fill you gotta pay to fix a lifted nail before you can get a fill. I think it's a little risky for her to be basically saying don't worry if you're messing up on cuticles on paying customers cuz then some of y'all are like ok good I don't have to worry if it's messed up, no you need to fix it before they leave! You should always be leaving a hair line between the cuticle and nail so you should have enough room to file the cuticle ... IDK don't just be ok with doing half way decent work, perfect the cuticle!

I noticed if I make a worm of the gel on the form instead of a bead it works MUCH BETTER.. and instead of having to drag it .. you just pat it out to the side edges using an alcohol dipped brush. When I do it this way there is less fine tuning in the end: look up a method call the lazy girl method … you leave the full cover extension on. This looks easier.. I’m trying it next time

I've been doing this for a bit over 10 years. My friends always thought I had gone to the nail salon again. This is an excellent technique. I wouldn't do it too many times as it can be really bad if the strength and integrity of the nail extension gets compromised. I broke a nail right down the middle when my car door kinda slammed on it. It was the same day I had done a cuticle clean up. Worst pain. Just makes sure that apex is still strong ladies/gents! Which she does mention it all depends on the nail bed and the growth rate. It also depends on how thin/weak/strong are our own nails underneath the extension. This is why I love nail polish the easy removal easy application no lamp required. I think gel polish is cool but it really isn’t necessary when you’re applying it to enhancements it’s more for natural nails for long-term where

@@NailCareerEducation I have a full Helmer of beautiful lacquers. I'm a hard gel girl now, but do still occasionally paint over them with lacquer. I think the wear of lacquer over hard gel is as good as over acrylic. A nice top coat of Seche Vite, and again each week, makes them last pretty well. Perhaps not as long as gel polish, but a good (though underrated) way of changing colors/designs more frequently.

I’m learning to do my own nails and I never really even painted my own nails besides my toes. I’ve been doing them for almost a year now. I have such a difficult time with my cuticles area. Trying to get a perfect looking cuticle area with my refills and my gel polishes. Thanks for making this!

Only thing different I would have done is to prime the cuticle area and apply base gel. It does help with adhesion.

This was the video I needed at just the right time! I used the Femi Beauty method to put on tips last week and wanted to redo the design this week. This was the perfect method to clean up the cuticles and get them prepped for the new design - they look better than when I first did them with perfectly smooth cuticles!

I've heard that over curing gel polish can be just as bad as under curing. However, I haven't seen anyone talk about it, (that I'm aware of) for instance, how to spot it, how to prevent it, what to do if you encounter it, why it's not ideal etc. Also, Our girl Suzie has recommended doing 1 nail at a time when trying new techniques or designs, wouldn't constantly putting your hand under the light cause over curing even if you are "flash curing" because all the nails are under the light constantly regardless and the time kind of.. Adds up? Just wondering lots of ❤️ to Suzie.

That’s always been a concern in our industry. But some of the companies that we have a say it doesn’t add enough to cause any breakdown. And I don’t think overhearing is as bad a problem is under caring for my knowledge. But if you are concerned then just cure one nail at a time by not putting the other nails under. A one finger lamp would be very practical for this. The only time I’m ever concerned about overhearing is when it can turn a topcoat yellow because it’s over processed

kassidy davis When you are used to them it's like having no fake nail 😁 1 time I got short nails cause the nail tech. did NOT know how to make long nails, my GOD I was like so MAD and looked and felt like I had NO acrylic nails so by time I got home,I already had removed 2 nails. And eventually drove to my nail tech. who knew exactly how and what I wanted. But than again I'm 50 getting my nails done since I was 18 and since my 1st time I got real long nails since 1990. Good Day Peace✌🏻

could you do a video showing how you do *life* with long nails? I have little nailbeds so growing my bare nails out is hard enough on it's own, but then having some weight whether it's nail enamel or some sort of salon material, it's even more crazy! They always pop off within days, my record of keeping them on is 3 days with gel nails ):
