This should be a series! The dangers of all the products you use in the industry. I loved the style of video you did for this :D
YES! There are a lot of dangerous products and tools!!! Itâs all about being careful, and knowledgeable about the risks!
Great idea for a series!
yes! even the music was foreboding! lol.
yes it should be. It shows the dangers and the proper way to use
Yes they r dangerous, thatâs why nail techs tell you to not to use it hard, and to jus use it lightly
My nail educator has a saying that goes: "It is not the tool, it is the fool". Without the proper training you WILL hurt people! But thank you for this amazing video! Always learning something new!!!

I learned to use my efile on a pencil. Very carefully make a hexagon (I think) pencil round.
Thatâs insane! Itâs a great idea to help someone learn the e file though!
That's a smart idea to learn control on just a small thing!

She sounds crazy, lol.
This reminds me of when I got acrylics done for the first time and the nail tech kept nicking my cuticles and she made me bleed and when I said something about it she just says "you have thin skin" like i was the problem. I wish I could show her this video lol

Susie, before I referenced any videos or read the âhow toâ, used one to remove gels polish. Used a coarse bit⊠long story short, thinned the nails, heated my nails and it blistered under my nails. Didnât feel anything right away, until later on that night. OUCH, is an understatement. They detached during the healing process, it hurt so bad, my nail-estate was about 1/4 of an inch for months. It took 6 months for them to completely heal. Lesson learned. I still use my e-file, but now use the right bit, at the right speed and only when absolutely necessary
I did the same thing myself. I didn't research enough. I went to a salon to get some much needed TLC, and the nail artist told me that painting is just the cherry on top...you have to really understand nail anatomy to be great. It opened my eyes as to how I really didn't know anything!
I gave myself the "ring of fire" and had gouges on my nails, making them look like they were faceted gems. I was embarrassed, but since I've learned a bit more I cant I believe I did what I did lol
Me too!! Not as bad as it sounds you suffered, but I had serious damage (some onycholysis on a few nails) that took about 6 months to heal. I figured, hey, I went to salons and watched them do it for years, I can do this!! Except I had no idea how to hold the efile with my non-dominant hand, what speed, what bits etc. That arrogance and subsequent payment with my once healthy nails forced me to learn slowly and practice, even if I'm only doing my own nails. When I saw this I thought, I'm not scared of my efile, I'm TERRIFIED! Thank God for Suzie. She's so clear and makes everyone feel like they can do what she does, as long as they pay attention and take her good advice!
Iâve been doing my own nails for years but, ever since Iâve discovered this channel Iâve been able to step up my game. My nails look better and last so much longer. These are by far the best training videos I have seen! Thank you so much!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I've bumped an efile against my knee, the scratch is more painful/irritating than many other wounds because it just tears skin up
Omg, I hope many nail technicians watch this video! I have thinner, more delicate nails. The last time I got my nails done professionally was YEARS ago because the lady was using an efile with a pedal. She stepped on the pedal to remove my acrylic and Holy cow, I saw stars! First the burn was intense. She had the nerve to get mad at me for pulling away. Then she pulled my hand back and on the next nail she went right through my nail. I was in tears, and walked out. I never went back to a nail salon again.
Oh wow. I hope she isn't doing that anymore.
Sheâs is more than that simple MASTER
I had similar experience
She was watching TV and now my nail is growing wavy forever
Jeeeeeeez! This was an AWESOME video with so much helpful information, thank you! Youâre an amazing teacher! đ
Thereâs a nail place is town where they file down your nails way too much with the e file and itâs just not needed literally made them crepe paper thin đą thatâs why I decided to learn how to do my own
This is what happened to my nails when I was wearing acrylics and why I'm determined now to grow my natural nails. I had never had my nails done before so had no clue. Never again.
@@Keeper0fmyHEART umm this has nothing to do with acrylic or an e file. You missed the whole point of the video
@@i.8885 cscasey08 wrote, "There's a nail place in town where they file down your nails way too much with the e-file and it's just not needed literally made them crepe paper thin."
I watched the video and understood the message. The point of my comment stands as I was responding to the original posters comment with my own experience with an e-file being used on my nails when I had acrylics done years ago. Suzzy's entire video speaks to these very issues where the e-file is used incorrectly and how that directly impacts customers and their fears about it. She is working to teach and show methods that don't cause this. I'm confused at the point you thought you were making to directly attack me for just agreeing with the original poster. However, I hope this further explanation on my part clears the air for you as to my intentions and meaning.
Omg
They do that because theyâre most likely using MMA monomer. Itâs an illegal (in most states) cheaper option to EMA monomer. It wonât stick to the natural nail unless itâs filed down so thin!
I am 37 y/o. And I must say that, videos like this one, it's what keeps me amazed of what technology (CZcams) brings. I am in awe of how amazing you are in all your videos. I am GLAD that you have found this medium to teach us the WISDOM that you had gathered in more than 30 years of experience. THANK YOU!!!
This has taught me how to properly use my e-file AND how to use my e-file in crafting with my egg decorating and painting. Now I know how to carve designs in hollow eggs. Step up in my crafting game, woot woot!
I enjoyed the use of the egg to simulate the nail and the dangers of the e-file. It emphasized how important it is to have practice before using it on a human nail.
I enjoy your videos and the positive interaction you and your husband have.
My sister was recently cut by an E-File at the nail salon! She had to go to emergency care because it was bleeding so much, and we didnât want it infected. Needless to say, we are not going back there.
Hey Suzie. Yep fear the file. So could have done with this video when I did my sisters nails last week. Was so scared of it it was hardly worth using at all! Not been around due to a death in the family lovely to hear your soothing voice again. See you next week xx
You're brilliant, haven't taken my new e-file out of the box for fear. Hard boiled eggs first, ty ty ty.
It's not that scary! Just don't use it on natural nails at first. Use it on any nail enhancement. Most times hitting your skin lightly while filing even with a high speed won't do much harm.
Thank you for educating! Iâve been a nail tech since the 90s and learned on my own hands before I went to nail school. Iâm so happy to see you helping those who want to diy!
Iâm not a nail tech nor am I planning on becoming one, but this video was so well done and very interesting. I always wondered why my nails were burning at the salon.
Iâm so happy you made this video because I feel like ALL the nail techs and salons use the e-file horribly. I donât remember going to my nails done and the drill not cutting me or burning my nails. Very important topicâŒïžThank youđđœ
Youâre so right- itâs super important!
I need you to do an entire E-File series. Iâm a DIY nail doer and I want to dive into E-Files, but they terrify me. I need a full on series just on E-Files. Iâve been hand filing for the last 4 years and I think Iâm ready to dive in.
Just start! I think you're ready now because you've mastered hand file and that's a lot. I think my biggest mistakes were: putting pressure on myself and to be in a rush of finishing the filing on both hands. Do it slowly, just on one finger at a time and then see what you can do better. Remember that anytime, you can stop, relax yourself and do it another time. That's my journey starting learning and I'll never stop learning!
@@claro_ve6760 I definitely think Iâll take the plunge. My hands are starting to hurt while Iâm hand filing.
I'm LMAO right now. Of the countless times we've watched Susie "e-file" all sorts of chemical composite polymers with NO mask...and today she wears a mask because she's worried about an egg shell made of calcium. đ€Ł
lmfao true
made My day xD
Bones are also made of calcium and yet if u inhale bone dust it is terrible for ur lungs. Something being made of something thats already in our bodies doesn't necessarily mean it's okay to inhale. Plus all the bacteria the egg shell has from the poop of the chicken. She's very smart by putting a mask on, u REALLY don't want to get that in ur lungs. I am not saying that the polymers u claim she files without a mask is good either, probs should wear a mask either way (however I don't know the safety measures for nail techs) but, as I explained before, she really should here
I like that you say that we don't need over 12k rpms. I'm constantly getting annoyed when Russian nail techs do CUTICLE with 17 or 20k rpms. There's no reason for that, and lower speed can actually help and is safer. I tried on myself with higher and lower speed, and now I use between 3 and 5k rpms for my cuticle depending on the condition of them.
EXACTLY
I use higher speeds on myself beacuse i can feel it better, but lower speeds when i do someone else beacuse it's a lot longer till i realize I'm hurting them
@@adambartkowiak9882 even on myself I'll still use about a 5 for cuticle prep and natural nail prep because it's just not worth the damage. I still have issues with over working an area sometimes on myself, but on a client?! Gently, slowly and sparingly! I always say to my clients "tell me what you're feeling the second it happens because I don't want to hurt you or damage your nails and lessen your experience". It's bad when you can see damage caused by another nail tech, especially those from the nail bars who teach in-house đ„
You shouldâve definitely mentioned the dust protectors!! I feel like they are some of the most underrated parts of using an e file!
The little colorful rings that are on some of the drill bits! They protect dust from entering your handpiece which can cause it to stop working! They need to be pushed all the way down to the entrance of the drill bit opening to prevent any dust from going inside! So important!
Yes I hear what your saying - but if I started talking about that then it connects to the hand piece and efiles and I could never stop- I had to stay on point- but great idea for another topic đ€đđŒ
@@NailCareerEducation I totally understand! I feel like I donât hear people talk about it enough thatâs why I mentioned it. Great video! I always find peace watching your videos đ you should re create one of your first nail arts you took a picture of!
My e files like mine grasp around the drill bit tight so no dust gets in. Then before taking a bit off I dust the handpiece off with a brush

Iâm a nail enthusiast who has only used an E-file on myself, and Iâm telling you Iâve hurt myself slightly using the wrong angle taking product off near the cuticle. It has scared me so much and left a bad memory. Watching this video has helped me a lot in understanding what I could be doing wrong.
Thank you so much for this! Especially the part about what bits that are the most important. I feel so overwhelmed by all these different choices companies put out and I always wondered what nailtechs _actually_ use every day
You have always inspired me and I'm so glad you did this video (probably several years too late, but better late than never) as it really explains how to use the e-file properly. It's because of you (and Ms Meakin) that I am now doing nails professionally rather than as a hobby. Thank you so much â€ïž
I really love these super educational videos. I've been practicing with my e-file for a little over a year, and I'm always rewatching videos you've posted about them đ I'm good enough now that I use it on myself and get some really nice quality nails much quicker. Thank you, Suzie!! đ€
Could you talk about hygiene while/after doing nails?
Iâm so glad you made this video! I just bought my first efile to take off polygel and I noticed you didnât work at very high speeds as a professional so I did the same. Taking off product is easier now and if I notice Iâm not removing product then I just change bits and that works. Thank you for this video, I feel validated in the way Iâve been using the efile.
The sounds on the newer videos are so extra. I love it. One of the best channels on CZcams
This video being a gem aside, I can't imagine the smell they had to deal with of all that filed egg
Thanks, Suzie! Great topic, and sooo important!
Can you talk about forward/reverse and their usages with the e-file?
Left hand is reverse forward is right hand
Utube just recommended me a video from some months ago: cameraman does Suzie's nails. It would be nice to see him experimenting with the e-file and see how much are good his mirror neurons watching her everytime đ!

Iâve been on the look out for a nail tech as caring as Suzie. When I go to my local salon they DESTROY my nails with the e-file and when I brought it to their attention then itâs was damaging my nails she got mad ?
Thank you for this excellent tutorial. I recently did an accredited e-file course but I learnt more from this tutorial about placing the file on the nail and anchoring your own hand.
Iâm saddened and flattered at the same time - đthat an accredited Efile course did not leave you feeling educated. And flattered that I could teach you what you need to know in a 15 minute video. â€ïž
I just ordered an efile and waiting for it to come in. This video was perfectly timed for me! Lots of great information
Iâve been self taught for 8 years now and have used a cheap E file for a year but finally bought myself a nice pricey one a month ago. I kept struggling with the drill going around the finger and never thought to anchor. This is why I love learning more about nails everyday!!
Thanks for such a great explanation, and I love that you kept it to only 3 essential bits âșïž
Suzie you are the best teacher just perfect at explaining things as simple as can be. Since I found your chanel I have got much better at doing my own :) thankyou for everything đ
I love this video because I am absolutely terrified of carbide bits. When I was in high school I was an acrylics girl and my usual nail tech was out of town so they gave me some random and he chopped up my cuticles like no oneâs business to where I went to express care to get a split in my cuticle glued. Between him burning me and cutting me up, I soaked my acrylics off when they grew out and havenât gotten them since. To this day it takes all of me not to flinch when a nail tech takes off gel or dip off with anything other than an arbor band. I actually started watching your videos to do my nails at home because I didnât trust. Thank you for these Susie!!!
I bought my first e-file recently. And I love it! I only do my own nails. I was afraid of using it but in fact I prefer using it around cuticules to using a regular file.I have more control and the filing surface is much smaller. I think that I get better nail shape with e-file. Anyway you insipired me to change my manicure today :D
Thank you so much for this! I would love to know more on tips when you're working on yourself on the opposite hand and when to use reverse and forward
as someone who has to collect eggs every day i know theyâre mainly made up of calcium
Also, not sure if it's true or not, but I read somewhere (maybe in a magazine or something) quite a while back that salmonella from eggs is in the shells, not the yolks or whites đ€
on chickens poop of sick chickens, that can get stuck to the egg shells, but you only need to wash the egg before eating it raw. since salmonella dies when the egg gets cooked anyways. those are many filters xDDDD
Golly! Thanks for this video, I've definitely needed something like this. Best tutorial on e-files I've found so far.
thanks for teaching and inspiring us! this video helped me a lot
I have a pretty cheap e-file...i catch my cuticals way too often and it heats my nails soo quick. This is awesome info!
Honestly, I was scared to purchase an e-file for the longest time because I was scared of hurting myself. I had gotten my nails done for years and every time Iâd go, one of my fingers would end up getting hurt. It wasnât ever a big issue but the sharp pinch of the pain would make me nervous for my appointments. I have been doing my own nails for few years, for a long time I didnât branch out to many products (like hard gel and dip, etc) because filing by hand would either take too long or it wouldnât ever come out how I expected. So eventually I bought a cheap one, and found out it was much easier than I had anticipated. Sometimes I hurt myself, but itâs far less often than what occurred at the salon. I now want to purchase a nicer one because the e-file has become my best friend. đ
There's DEFINITELY a learning curve, I'm finding out...lol But, practice and patience is the key. I'm learning that as well. đđ

Thank you for posting this! I have learned so much from your channel. The very last time I got an acrylic set was in 2010; Iâve had multiple bad experiences with nail salons. One time they seemed like they were in such a rush that they practically ripped the nail off after not soaking them long enough and when they were using the e-file to smooth it out they made holes in two of my nails that I swore off ever getting my nails done again. It hurt sooo, soo bad đ. Right now Iâve been getting into dip powder but using a regular file just isnât cutting it for me so Iâve thought about getting an e-file but wanna make sure I know how to use it cus I know how bad it can hurt if you use it incorrectly.

Anchor points are also really good for artists as well, not for safety but for the stability it gives your hand and strokes of pen or brush.
I got onycholysis in all my nails from over drilling them and putting fake nails on my paper thin nails. All of my nails separated from the nail bed.

Thank you for this video...I am learning how to do my own acrylic nails and I am slowly getting all the tools together. The e-file is something I am nervous about using, but I know it will give me better results!
It is more difficult to control bit on lower RPM - just try yourself. On lower RPM bit also takes more material and diggs in more into product... I remove material on 25-30 as it easiest. Also flat top bit? It is by itself dangerous. There are cone and corn shaped bits that are more suitable for removal or shaping...
It may take product off fast, but there is no room for Error

I have found it hard to get reliable information from drill bit manufacturers (Iâm in the uk) regarding recommended speeds and I donât trust their quality. They are worth the extra money as they are lovely to work with and the manufacturers give good information about the best speeds to use and what each bit should be used for. My favourites are Atwood and Ericaâs - also Young Nails. My e-file wasnât cheap; I spent ÂŁ240 on it, and my dust collector was ÂŁ220. My bits cost anything from ÂŁ12 to ÂŁ25 + VAT. The other day I got a cheap diamond flame bit from a uk company (ÂŁ5) and Iâm pretty sure itâs caused some damage to my NN. Lesson learned!
Thank you for sharing your wisdom Suzie, love from West Sussex. đ
I hear ya- me too
Except we never started on eggs. Never even thought of it. Maybe thatâs why Iâm so very careful because I started on humans right from the get go.

Finally someone says i am right to fear my e-file! I am so carefull with it and my nailtech damaged my nailbed a few times, thatâs when i decided to do my own nails. Now all i need is a better e-file, next month đ€đŒWhen i did not know how to use an e-file, I did my callous on my toe ones on high speed, i was bleedingđ I called my mom whoâs a medical pedicure and she was mad a me, for good reasons. Learned my lesson!
Got a new e file recently. Trying to learn how to use it properly and these tips are very helpful. Thank you for this video.
Thank you for this video. I am teaching myself. I started in January and have never heard of anchoring. Of course everyone does it but Iâve just never noticed. I really have learned a lot.
đ hello dear Amanda
I always find your tutorials helpful and informative.
Great video đ. I have been a bit confused about all different kinds of bits and have been using the sanding bands and they work just fine but now I will get the slim one you showed in the video for my cuticles. It looks easier to use one of those instead of trying to manoeuvre the mandrel đ
đHello dear Anna
