@@bigjon576 - Would you prefer that claiming self defense prevents all prosecution? Anyone could kill anybody and get away with it by claiming self defense. Currently prosecutors have discretion as to how far to go with investigation and whether to pursue charges. In many jurisdictions grand jury makes charging decision after prosecutor brings case. Thus sometimes self defense claim is as far as a case goes. I have no statistics, but given how few prosecutions we hear about and the annual 500k-3M DGUs in US I’m guessing most are not prosecuted.

The difficulty with that kind of thinking is you're not viewing the actions that are going on you're labeling somebody a Target criminal. That doesn't take away from the reality that he was about to knock their heads off if they hadn't stopped what they were doing and ran. They looked young and if they were hardened criminals, they would've been armed and killed him as soon as he started struggling. Hopefully this experience scared them straight.

This is an exceptional set of interviews. Never wanting to actually have to shoot someone these are very good scenarios to mentally walk through. Let's hope and pray for everyone especially those who break the law and our public servant political leaders who sometimes don't hold them accountable to see the light and do the right things for everyone not just themselves. My opinion
I don't carry a gun to take a life. I carry a gun to save a life and my legacy. I just need to come home to my children. But you don't take a life if you don't have to I would rather produce a weapon and hopefully everybody scatters. But you have to know the law and where your rights fall. Just to protect yourself. And that's where the system fails us!
Hey Kevin and Tom, great video as always. I was wondering: Could you put together a video with some statistics on self defense incidents? I had a friend get robbed at gunpoint a couple weeks ago. I seem to remember one or both of you talking about the statistics of complying with an assailant, but I don’t remember the specifics (my friend was unarmed and complied - she escaped unharmed). A video detailing information like this would be very informative. Thanks!
Very misleading. If he had discharged his firearm and or hit a thug, the Interrogation will not have been so "cordial". Anything you say CAN & WILL be used against you in front of a jury.

I’ve been a Gun person my entire life and thought I understood how defend myself with a hand gun. I merely took my first class for something to do. I remember leaving my class realizing I had no idea how much I didn’t know and my knowledge has grown with each class taken. Having a gun isn’t the answer, it’s only part of the equation. The answers come when you get the training
@Kevin: 1st, it’s just SO refreshing to know and see/hear LEOs like you out there (yes you have a job to do, but to do it with the lil person in mind is phenomenal)! I also Know most LEOs are good ppl that being said, I’ve had my share (in my 51 yr life) of encounters of the worst sort of LEOs! There’s a huge diff between doing your job (having a bad day etc) and those with the power trip/chip on their shoulders (they DON’T deserve to wear the badge! The other issue is lack of training, both practical & legal). SADLY most LEOs don’t even know the laws they are tasked w upholding (NEVER ask a LEO about laws or for legal advice)! The good ones are the 5-10 yr veterans who have the street experience, have made Corporal/Sergeant etc. I live in SC, but tyvm for your years of service to the public & the Law Enforcement Communities! Officers like you make the country a better place! Especially the individuals like yourself who go the extra mile to make the general public more aware of what’s truly going on and makes the effort to do something about it!
How sad that the cops in the Uber case took his guns from him? I was shot at in Hall County Georgia. Those officers were awesome. Very professional and friendly. Huge 2A supporters and also of me defending myself if necessary. Not only was I open carrying, but I had been out shooting with my kids. I had two guns and about 400 rounds left in the truck. They never once even acted like they wanted to disarm me. They were very comfortable with another good guy being armed. I guess it pays to live in a pro-2A state.
The legal system is unpredictable. Local LEOs are not your enemy OR your friend. They have no charter to Protect and Serve. It has been documented by the Supreme Court. It is only a stenciled marketing slogan on the cruiser. Fact check that if you did not know that...don't forget. You NEED a lawyer not an attitude.
The first guy - the thing he should do differently is not keeping the gun in the door. The moment the criminal opened the door, he couldn’t immediately get to the gun. His gun was literally taken away from him simply due to the door being opened. Keeping the doors locked isn’t really an option if you’re working as a ride share driver. Also, it should always be in a holster. There are many options for almost all situations.
The criminal was intent on getting the driver out so he could steal the car. The thought of a gun in the door was most likely the furthest thought from his mind.
And any Castle Doctrine should provide lawful self defense, even if a person is invited into a car or home , the criminal's violated your rights , that's a win for the criminal's.
I can think of a lot he did wrong: off body carry, no holster, safety off, made a statement to the police without counsel, gave key evidence to the police without consulting counsel...
I had the same “did that really just happen” thought in the immediate aftermath of my 1974 gunfight w/armed robbery suspects where a fellow cop was shot & down.
How does castle doctrine NOT apply? So he "invited" them in, once they instigate their robbery then that "legal protection" for the thugs should immediately end. Without his dash video, the punks could have easily accused him of robbing them. Then it's just who do the police want to believe.
What bothers me is the thought of the criminals retaliating for stopping them from robbing me. The way the law is structured gives the advantage to criminals, because I believe once the intent to commit the crime and/or harm me is created as proven in the video; that should give law abiding citizens the privilege to neutralize the threat without worrying about going through legal hell for surviving. Just a thought!

I don't think she is correct in this case because the criminals presented themselves to be passengers and the ride wouldn't have been offered to them had they presented themselves as criminals.
I have a question and an idea for a video idea specifically for the attorney he has on in some videos. I personally like to carry a revolver for ccw for a multitude of reasons. From living in a big city, I have noticed after a shooting the police will use chalk to circle the spent casings on the ground for evidence and to help them interpret what happened. Since revolvers do not eject shell casings after firing each round. God forbid I have to defend myself will it complicate the investigation not having casings on the ground or will it presume as guilty like I am hiding the casings for a reason? No, but this line of questions is VERY important if you own a firearm. As soon as they see the caliber and the firearm, they'll know that you're not trying to hide anything. It's just the way a revolver functions. I also carry a revolver. Don't worry about it

Maybe I’m wrong in thinking this but why was it necessary to call the cops? It seems like you beat the threat and calling the cops would put you at risk of legal repercussions.
Because of the possibility that the thugs would call 911 first, and then law enforcement enters the situation with only their side of the story, i.e. "We we're just getting an Uber ride and the driver went crazy, pointed a gun at us, and called us racial slurs!" If that's all that the police hears, then they have to assume that the defender was actually the instigator of the situation, and criminally liable for his actions. You want to be the first to call 911 so it's clear from the beginning who the victim is.
Yes. Chest rig is SUPER effective for driving. If you look at some special forces, they have their pistol sidearm high on their body. I advocate this if you're not planning on your long firearm going down

You are right that it is important to check gear configuration with everything in place. Amazing how certain items interfere with each other. This is part of why officers tend to use drop (or thigh) holsters and SF use chest rigs - because standard (or high-ride concealed carry) hip holsters don’t work with body armor. Officers tend to stick with 3-o’clock carry because it is unobtrusive versus chest rig looking too military and upsetting ordinary citizens.

He did exactly what he should have. I think killing soneone is an absolute last resort. These guys were no longer a threat as they ran away. If he fired, unfortlualy he would have been in trouble. Right or wrong that’s what would have happened. The good guys really don’t have any rights.

I've had incidents where police were aggressive upon arrival. Now if you can't speak to the police about what happened some officer's can get irritated ( So why did you call if you can't give us information) that's tricky and tactical.And so even if you call an attorney,the police really get nothing to go on . Absolutely necessary that he call police. If he had not, those two would have done one of two things; they could have called to report crazy lyft driver who pulled a gun on them (and they barely escaped) or they would have continued their plan calling on other lyft or Uber drivers. In fact any bystander could easily have called cops with their own version of what they’d seen. In this case, as in case of attackers calling first, cops would have been looking for defender - pissed they had to look for him and aggressive because their assumption is that he’s armed and dangerous. After you call they’ll be a bit suspicious but assumption is that you are the victim in need of assistance.

My carry gun is a chrome plated Ruger SP101 in .357 Magnum with a 2.25 inch pipe. The load is Federal 125 grain JHPs. At close range you wouldn't want to take one of those in the Solar Plexus.

SADLY… politics are a part of life, period! We can’t change that or ignore it! I do my very best to avoid discussing politics as much as humanly possible!! Politics are based on personal opinions and EVERYONE has an opinion (Most ppl won’t listen, won’t rationally discuss, and will never change their mind!) Most political views aren’t even based in facts and are voiced by uneducated individuals, these are the most dangerous political views in the general public (even scarier are the ones that are agenda based and narrative driven, but those are mostly actual Politicians). Most ppl’s political views/opinions are based solely on something they heard someone say or seen on the news (never having researched or educating oneself in the given topic), there will ALWAYS be the “sheep” (90%) of the populace that CAN NOT (or WILL NOT) think for them selves. Everyone’s opinion is correct, “yours are wrong because my opinion is mine and you don’t know what your talking about…!” This is the true problem we face as (the 10%) free thinking individuals. As ppl who can think for themselves, who question what’s going on, what we’re being told by the news & the government, and ppl in general. We educate ourselves (knowledge IS power). We do the research, we train, don’t try to “interpret” what is written PLAINLY for everyone to see, it’s written plainly and needs NO interpretation! {Language evolves… definitions change… words have different meanings NOW than they did 250 yrs ago… Shakespearean plays were “written the way ppl actually spoke at the time”, The Constitution was “written in the way ppl actually spoke at the time” [yes it may include some “legal terms” but legal terms are PLAIN/SIMPLE language once you understand them, and are so for this very reason!] as modern books/movies are written the way we actually speak now}. (If 1,000 ppl read something there will be 1,000 different interpretations of said thing) sad FACT. Each & every person is an individual NO 2 are alike. What bothers me is the thought of the criminals retaliating for stopping them from robbing me. The way the law is structured gives the advantage to criminals, because I believe once the intent to commit the crime and/or harm me is created as proven in the video; that should give law abiding citizens the privilege to neutralize the threat without worrying about going through legal hell for surviving. Just a thought!

I don't think she is correct in this case because the criminals presented themselves to be passengers and the ride wouldn't have been offered to them had they presented themselves as criminals.

I have a question and an idea for a video idea specifically for the attorney he has on in some videos. I personally like to carry a revolver for ccw for a multitude of reasons. From living in a big city, I have noticed after a shooting the police will use chalk to circle the spent casings on the ground for evidence and to help them interpret what happened. Since revolvers do not eject shell casings after firing each round. God forbid I have to defend myself will it complicate the investigation not having casings on the ground or will it presume as guilty like I am hiding the casings for a reason?

No, but this line of questions is VERY important if you own a firearm. As soon as they see the caliber and the firearm, they'll know that you're not trying to hide anything. It's just the way a revolver functions. I also carry a revolver. Don't worry about it

Maybe I’m wrong in thinking this but why was it necessary to call the cops? It seems like you beat the threat and calling the cops would put you at risk of legal repercussions.
Because of the possibility that the thugs would call 911 first, and then law enforcement enters the situation with only their side of the story, i.e. "We we're just getting an Uber ride and the driver went crazy, pointed a gun at us, and called us racial slurs!"
If that's all that the police hears, then they have to assume that the defender was actually the instigator of the situation, and criminally liable for his actions. You want to be the first to call 911 so it's clear from the beginning who the victim is.

Yes. Chest rig is SUPER effective for driving. If you look at some special forces, they have their pistol sidearm high on their body. I advocate this if you're not planning on your long firearm going down

You are right that it is important to check gear configuration with everything in place. Amazing how certain items interfere with each other. This is part of why officers tend to use drop (or thigh) holsters and SF use chest rigs - because standard (or high-ride concealed carry) hip holsters don’t work with body armor. Officers tend to stick with 3-o’clock carry because it is unobtrusive versus chest rig looking too military and upsetting ordinary citizens.

Now if you can't speak to the police about what happened some officer's can get irritated ( So why did you call if you can't give us information) that's tricky and tactical.And so even if you call an attorney,the police really get nothing to go on . About 4 1/2 minute in, he speaks of mobility. Being able to draw and hit *ALL THE TIME* even at oddball angles does matter. Car hits park, belt either went off or is in the process (yea, mom still hates how quick I am about that. Reasons I'm not going to talk to her about). The other part of mobility is being off hand capable. Even with a SERPA sportster I can draw it off hand and engage. Slow af though
Absolutely necessary that he call police. If he had not, those two would have done one of two things; they could have called to report crazy lyft driver who pulled a gun on them (and they barely escaped) or they would have continued their plan calling on other lyft or Uber drivers.
In fact any bystander could easily have called cops with their own version of what they’d seen. In this case, as in case of attackers calling first, cops would have been looking for defender - pissed they had to look for him and aggressive because their assumption is that he’s armed and dangerous. After you call they’ll be a bit suspicious but assumption is that you are the victim in need of assistance.
@@finngamesknudson1457 I'm just saying , he had it on Camara , in today's justice by calling the police he could have incremeanated himself even giving a little information to police, now he has to call his lawyer because he is unsure what will happen next. Most political views aren’t even based in facts and are voiced by uneducated individuals, these are the most dangerous political views in the general public (even scarier are the ones that are agenda based and narrative driven, but those are mostly actual Politicians). Our bodies work differently, our chemistry works differently, our minds process things differently, our emotions trigger differently, and our thought processes are governed and altered by our emotions! Politics are a constant and very real part of our everyday lives, all of our life, even as children.
