      Inception is more complicated and needs more outer kbowledge to understand as many of us aren't really familiar with the scientific concept of lucid dreaming, astral projection and dreams. But we all more or less have learned atleast about cells or these biological concepts. For me, I enjoyed watching Annihilation and loved to understand the concepts of Inception.

    I was critical of the casting at first too because I just didn't see either of them as potentially attached to a forward operating type military unit. But it made sense that they were researchers and sending them into the unknown was a desperation move after it was realized that there was no solution to the expansion of the Shimmer thru traditional military action and a couple of them would at least be able to mount armed resistance to whatever they might find. I've never been a fan of either actress but they were great in this.

    This is so dumb. Cause I soon as I heard the criticism I went “wait huh I’ve read that book and never do they mention their ethnicities” but then you explained how they are only stated later in the series and it’s so dumb cause those people complaining haven’t even read it, they just heard it somewhere else and wanted something to complaint for. Otherwise they would have catch up to that quicker than anyone else.

  • @FredtheDorfDorfman1985

    I’m happy with that. Movies rarely follow a book to the letter. So they’re not exactly like the book series characters, I sure enjoyed it. I loved Jennifer as Ventress, she was a cool interesting character, and I think Natalie did an excellent job. They all did. Gina did an excellent job with her loosing it, and the bear mauling, hair raising performance.

    I don’t blame him for the casting
    But the latter half of this video just reminds me of my disdain for the ego of Hollywood producers and writers. The movie isn’t terrible but I listened to the book today and he ignored a treasure trove of psychologically thrilling and original imagery all so that he could take the story “in his own direction”. The movie wasn’t bad, but at best it could be described as fascinating, where the book is nearly peak sci-fi horror. Just adapt the fucking material man. There is more than enough room for your creative ego to live inside of your directive vision of the accurately adapted material.

    • @ignaciob5203
      @ignaciob5203 Před 11 měsíci +4

      Same here. I get the point of having your film go its own way, but if you’re going to adapt something using the original name of the books, directors could be more respectful regarding source material.

    • @texasred2702
      @texasred2702 Před 7 měsíci

      That was my first objection but they're different in fundamental ways. Stalker was based on a 1970s Russian scifi novel called Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky Brothers. The basic premise is somewhat similar--the Zone is generated by detritus left behind by a brief alien rest stop--but that's where the similarity ends. Annihilation is more of a traditional narrative, Stalker is a Tarkovsky film--it's a poetic examination of philosophical and theological questions. I was irate at first but you couldn't really remake a Tarkovsky film if you tried.
