    Motorcycles, and cars, come with power stealing restrictions.. catalytic converters. Now, these are put in place to cut down on emissions for street use cars which is supposed to make the exhaust better for the air. Now if you have a race motorcycle or race car, these restrictions don't count. Race, track and offroad use vehicles don't have to adhere to the same rules. In which case you may decide to decat or remove the catalytic converter from your bike. Today, we're removing the catalytic converter from this 2019 kawasaki z900. For some bikes, the catalytic converter is part of the main exhaust. the z900 has a mid pipe that contains all of the packing, meaning we're drilling it out. It's a time consuming task, but it does make a big difference in overall performance of your motorcycle. But again, this is for off road use only. Especially if you live in a state that does emission testing, this bike wouldn't pass. If you've done this to your bike, leave a comment below and tell us how your experience went.

    As a z900 owner this is interesting to see. I love how you show the AFR on your dyno runs. I still have my cat in mine. Great job! I've been loving your work and videos!

      @eddwiggins4383 you drill, drill some more, beat on it, drill some more, cuss a bunch, then pull it out with some long needle nose.
      There are different ways to do it aside from that but that's how we are doing it now. You can also cut it open and cut the guts out and then weld it back together.

    Wow, saw this on a zx6r, the guy put a slip on with no tune and went to the track and the rich condition melted his cat until it clogged his exhaust, dealer couldn't figure out the problem for loss of power, later at the dyno the ecu flash for the slip on revealed a clogged cat, too much fuel raised exhaust temps and melted that honeycomb material.🤣...forgot to mention that the baffle on the slip on also raised back pressure psi past normal 1 psi. the baffle was also removed leaving the bike very loud. 2024 kawasaki zx6r.

    • @provenpowercycles
      @provenpowercycles  Před 13 dny

      @natvega1 exactly! We have seen it on a few kawasaki and suzuki platforms where the cat melts, and even in some rare cases, it was too much back pressure and blew the motor. 👍

    Have a '22 Z900 with just a slip on. Been riding it for 2 years .15k wonderful miles. Have to say all in all I'm in love with the sound and performance .I've taken off in 5th gear for kicks and it has lots of grunt everywhere. In stop and go traffic it does run a little warmer than I like, but still runs excellent. ECU flash could let the fan come on earlier I guess. Hard to believe this smooth 4 banger can breathe thru that restrictive cat. Z's with a full system are just too loud for my taste. So for now it's staying as is for my 5 year warranty. Wish you were closer when the time comes. Idaho's a long way.

    I picked my 2020 z900rs cafe used with 15k a few months ago, overall I love the bike, but ive had an issue with it struggling through the rpm sometimes doesn't matter it happens at random times. I've done a breadbox delete and that didn't change anything. I'm hoped a flash tune will fix it. I've had 2 shops check fuel, compression and check it over and no help, anyway........Love the videos, keep em coming

      @Zed900rsCafe awesome man! Yeah sounds like some sort of gremlin in it, if they don't see anything in tune. We've seen a lot of shops test fuel psi only at prime and not under load.

    I got my z900 in 2018 from brand new .. it came with a full akra system, I got it custom tuned and the guy explained and showed me that the bike was getting way to much fuel some spots so after a couple of hours I left with a bike that had better fuel eco AND ran better, a small gain in HP but I was after a bike that was balanced.. a few years later local laws made it impossible to run a full system since I risk crazy fines so I made the call to get the original headers on the bike with the akra slip on, did a new custom map/tune and the bike still runs great.. not a major diffrence in sound or feel of the bike.

    Is doing the decat basically the same as having a full exhaust system, or will a full exhaust get you more power? If so, on average, how much more power, if any?

    • @provenpowercycles
      @provenpowercycles  Před 5 měsíci

      Having a decat system is similar but not the same as having a full, aftermarket exhaust system. Depending on what type of aftermarket exhaust system, they should make more power than a gutted cat with a slip on. The hp numbers all vary depending on the system.

    • @provenpowercycles
      @provenpowercycles  Před 13 dny +1

      @savastanivukovic4984 honestly, to find someone who will go through the pain of fabing up a custom section plus slip on can be pricey. There is a knock off sc project exhaust on ebay for like $400 you can buy that will yield similar results. We have that video on our channel if you go thru it 🤟

      @Compactor_08 there won't be a check engine light with the decat or full exhaust. But it will mess with the AFR a bit leaving it in and hooked up. You can always mail us the ecu for a quick flash that can help get the tune closer if you would like 👍

      I usually recommend it across the board to people due to the majority of the bikes we tune, the AFR skews pretty badly either rich and or lean. Some bikes even have a crazy lean then rich then lean again mixture once you get the cat out of it. You just never know.
