YES!! Finally,someone who sees the series as I do. Saints Row was the original gangster game so to say and while I do like this over the top crazy game they're putting out, well, it's not the Saints Row I know.
It goes to show that it doesn't matter if something rips off something else as long as it's better.

Well, Considering how it takes place in Los Santos, Home of the Ballas and Grove Street, One can assume that while the main characters aren't affiliated with the gangs themselves that they will surely get involved plenty of times. Not just Franklin.

You're not the only one. I'm glad they decided to take this game in this route. If they didn't, people would be bitching about how it's a GTA clone. People are bitching about the changes, but still...looks fun as hell, and I love fun games. If I want to play a series game, I'd go play GTA, Mass Effect or even play through SR1 and 2 again. Besides, idolninja's article on SR4 was pretty good. People who don't think they'd buy SR4 should read all of it. SR4 is supposed to be better than SR3. :)

God I loved playing that game awhile ago, still a great game.
Actually, they mentioned in an interview that no one wanted to kill him personally, but felt the strongest way for you to hate the syndicate would be to have them do something that would truly piss off the player, ala kill Jonny Gat.

I too remember some serious moments. But those were few and far between (at least in the second anyway). The only times I can recall it being serious were Aisha's death as well as Jessica's demise, Gat's injury, and Carlos' execution. Beyond that it was just good, light hearted times. And if you're going into Saints Row 4 bitching about the story, you're in the wrong mindset then. You have to focus less on the silliness of the story and more on the challenge of being creative with your powers.
This game is going to be off the hook! Can't wait.

That's the thing, GTAV isn't "gangsta." It's organized crime, heist-pulling, dramatic action. Saints Row 1 and 2 WERE "gangsta" - throwing up Gang tags, hitting your rivals where it hurt (The Brotherhood and Vice Kings come to mind), and generally thuggin' it.
Once SR3 came around, it changed. Now it's just over-the-top open-world wackiness that tries to take itself in too many new directions at once.
I haven't played SR4 yet, of course, but it's in no way the same series I fell in love with.

The first two games did have a serious story but with wacky over-the-top gameplay.
Now everything is just wacky and over-the-top and the good story element has been lost. Not that I'm complaining, this looks great!
It was planned to be a DLC, but it got so big they decided to make a full game out of it.

I bring up moments like Sunshine's because you and the others keep touting this series (Which at its core is a parody game of free roam games. Something you and the rest of the world have forgotten.) as gangster themed yet I fail to see how aspects like clothes companies with private armies, assassination of both a police chief during a memorial and a mayoral candidate while on a yacht, and the aforementioned voodoo fit into that theme you and everyone else keep bringing up.

Saddly the first one isn't on PC,cause it had so many more drugs and beverages,and I became adicted to SR.This game made purple be my favorite color.

Saints row 4 wasn't the April fools joke. It was enter the dominatrix. Yes etd was orignally planned to be sr3 dlc but they were working on sr4 before the release of sr3 and when they announced etd they were working on both at the same time. So when deep silver took over they decided to merge two. a directors cut version of etd is going to be released as dlc for sr4 45 days after the launch.
This is going to be the best sandbox game of 2013.
My friend and I kinda speculated about that at one point, though to be honest, SR1 had the best storyline of the series (not SR2, but the first game).
If they make a sequel, it should follow the concept of the very first game.

Trust me SR 4 is going to have SR 2 dramatic moments,serious story with a little bit of SR 3 elements...a guy named IdolNinja played an early build and he is a hardcore fan of the old SR games and says he got tears of joy when he played...also he seems to really really love the final boss fight in SR 4...it's not quick time events. And i quote "The ending was off the fucking hook!" Seriously...search IdolNinja on google and read the article he made about SR 4..it tells you more and will calm you
I remember just cause 2 in fact I still play it in 3D sometimes, I don't remember super powers or aliens. It does however look like they have ripped the mod's straight from the guys that made them, for saint row 3; and just expanded on the powers you get in one of the dlc's in saints row 3.
Ok maybe i went over the edge when i said 'it still stays true to the saints row games' but considering how maybe in the next game they'll focus on the gangs more than the weapons and clothes....but still have pretty fun gameplay and still have cool clothing and weapons.

i understand why fans of SR1 and 2 would be disappointed with how SR has changed but at least they differentiated themselves from GTA. This game look goofy but bad ass. Thats a rare combo.
That hasn't been confirmed. A hint of him was somewhat shown in the trailer, but that means very little. As they've been saying, you'll be going through many of the saints nightmare worlds to free them, and that clip from the trailer with gat was probably suandie's (no I can't spell her name) nightmare world, seeing as she had strong feelings for him, and in the clip it shows her knelt before him with a knife through his chest.
It became the most badass open world game of all time...
I think there a reasonable desires for the Saints series to go back to it's roots. The Third turned story mode into one huge linear side quest battle, destroyed most of the "liveliness" to the world and turned the difficulty way, WAY down.
I will give you that. There was a lot more side activities needed and there needed to be more of an incentive to do them other than an achievement, new gang outfits, and a grand total of two unlockable vehicles. But it seems like the fans are getting angry because of a simple theme change which, I remind you, was something Ubisoft pulled with Farcry 3: Blood Dragon and yet nobody called betrayal on that.

As long as you replace "little" with "extremely", it still is. Saints Row isn't meant to be taken seriously, at all, that was never the point of Saints Row. You used to be able to play it seriously but it was never serious, the story line wouldn't allow for you to take it seriously, what with the zombies and the Burt Reynolds.
The game looks fantastic and I will certainly be buying it.

He is part right,the original 2 saints rows had amazing stories,wich took you long time to finish,but they still had a lot of crazy shit to do around the city(the activities in SR2 are better than SR3's activities),however SR4's war for humanity trailer might be a sign that they're going dramatic again SR2 style,but I kinda want some of the shit in SR2 back as well like the shock paddles,the katana and drugs
Considering SR IV has gotten higher ratings then the other games in the series, they must be doing something right.

Remember when you chainsawed pirates, burned old people, and took a sledgehammer to skaters for a COPS knock off? Remember emptying a full pistol clip into a drug lord's right hand man, cutting his head off, and throwing it to a meat processor? Remember when you planted C4 in an oriental tower and then skydived from the top floor to the bottom? Remember when this series was comical from the start and not trying in any way to be serious? Honestly it looks more like this is pulling a Just Cause 2.

But Saints Row isn't about the story. It is about the customization and the moments where you laugh along at how goofy it can get. If you're looking for a free roam game with a story to get immersed in, there's always games like Sleeping Dogs and The Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.
The player didn't get put into a coma in SR2, he was put in it in SR1 and came back in SR2. SR3 and 4 came AFTER SR2. Doesnt make sense.

I know there aren't many haters on THIS video for SRIV, but to them, I have to say, play the game for what it is! It's funny! It's dumb! It's sometimes doesn't make sense. Usually the haters are complaining because they loved SR2, but I mean, play the Third and this new one for what they are, not what you wanted them to be. They are different, accept that, then you can really have a great, and hilarious time playing it! :D

Possible clone, or he may be used to fuck with the leader of the Saints. My theory is, as it is known that Shaundi will be in a world where she is at Gat's body, I feel as if to save Shaundi the player will save Gat and he will help but will thus be gone when they leave.

Wrong,at E3 they showed the SR3 style choices(like the part where you choose wether to take off Killbane's mask or to get the apoco-fists),the first was cure cancer or feed the hungry,the second was some asshole and you could either take the high road("Punch a dick in the head") or the low road ("Punch a dickhead"),the last one making you punch him in the nuts,and the third if you were to go later to a party with Josh,yes making you high five him.
