  • Deep dive into the mind of Indian/British musician and composer Baluji Shrivastav OBE, and his journey with visual impairment. A concert not about a life without sight, but how the mind can create pictures through the senses.
Baluji is joined by an ensemble of visually impaired artists showcasing south Asian instruments - resonating strings of the sitar, intricate beats and much more. Together, they aim to enlighten the audience in how the imagination of music is formed in their minds.
The Howard Assembly Room will gradually be bathed in colour as Baluji’s inner vision is realised by a visual artist. Experience solace from the madness of the festive period and let yourself be swept away by an ocean of elated music.
Baluji Shrivastav OBE is joined by Linda Shanson on vocals, Takashi Kikuchi on viola, and Yousuf Ali Khan on tabla and percussion. Linda Shanson, a versatile artist, singer/songwriter, dancer, writer, and producer, has a rich musical history, combining jazz and Hindustani music in her compositions. Takashi Kikuchi, a skilled viola player, and Yousuf Ali Khan, a tabla and percussion virtuoso, contribute to the eclectic ensemble. Dimitris Menexopoulos, a seasoned projection, and sound artist, adds a visual dimension to the performance.
Please note, the event will begin and end in the dark. This will happen once everyone has taken their seats and staff will be on hand for assistance if needed.
SAA-uk is proud to present this project as part of SAA-uk’s Talent Development Programme SPOTLIGHT funded by PRS Foundation and PPL, in partnership with Opera North and Howard Assembly Room.

    Lahore,
چل بھلیا اوتھے چلئیے جتھے ہوون سارے انے
نا کوئی ساڈی ذات پچھانے نا کوئی سانوں منے
O Bhulla, let's go to the place where all are blind
There will be no one to know me to and my ancestors
( Bhulle Shah, the greatest muslim poet of the 15th century, Punjab India)
