I always liked how Scott and step dad, Paxton I think, become friends at the end. People in that situation too often hate each other to the detriment of the child, when the children should be the most important thing to everyone.
And I really like how the step dad and mom is acting, because in the mothers eyes she knows Scott isn't a bad person or father but he just has to actually try and be there for them and the from step dads perspective he see Scott as someone who went to prison and is looking out for his step daughter and then learn about the good sides of Scott
Agreed. The development of Scott and Paxton's relationship is a great part of this great movie. I like how Paxton isn't actually portrayed as a bad guy at all. He just cares greatly for both his fiancee and her daughter, and he worries about Scott's influence like Scott's ex wife does.
@@thatpatrickguy3446 I agree completely. I also like how Paxton in the end doesnt look down on Scott, he just wants him to step up because he really believes he can turn it around. It's a tough sell to get the audience to not see someone in that scenario as the bad guy and the writers did a really great job and even better in the second film
He was annoyingly clingy in the next one I liked it better when he heated him
Antman was a fantastic surprise. Simple storyline, and the cast nailed it.
Without spoilers, Antman was so good he stole entire scenes next movie.
9:52 is Garrett Morris, a Saturday Night Live alumnus, who played Ant-Man in a sketch with Dan Aykroyd (The Flash) and John Belushi (The Hulk) back in 1979.
Ant-Man was a really good, light-hearted yet sweet story about redemption and relationships. Good movie.
One of the best things about Marvel is the casting. It began with Robert Downey Jr. and has continued to Simu Liu (Shang-Chi). The next movie in the series (Captain America: Civil War) is considered one of the best.
I love this film, its funny, its quirky, its smart... yet it hits hard. I love the family dynamics in this film and how in the end step dad becomes more a good guy and get's closer to Scott. When you consider Paxton didn't had easy. His step daughter adores seeminly no good, criminal record holding real father and as his job as cop its even harder to see ex-con whom he is suspicious get close the family. Even we don't see his growth but the contrast between end and beginning its so good. Its second best thing after Scotts relationship with his daughter to me in this film.
Agreed! It is such a trope that the step-parent is always causing problems for the ex. That is what makes it so refreshing that Paxton is actually a good dude just looking out for his wife and step-daughter. He is willing to be good to Scott as well. Love it!
fun fact addie the guy who was in the car who's roof scott fell on when Scott fell out of the window was garrett morris and on a episode of saturday night live he did on a skit he went to a costume party dressed in a ant costume and that's why they put him in the movie
He was also the Voice Actor for Ant-man in the cartoons. :D
He WAS Ant-Man in the sketch. It was a superhero party. A crossover they had Both Marvel and DC heroes
No one knew what to expect from Ant-Man. The character wasn't known mainstream outside the comics, much like Guardians of the Galaxy. To say they succeeded is kind of an understatement. Hank Pym as Ant-Man was an original Avengers member in the comics way back in 1963, as well as Janet Van Dyne, The Wasp.
Pym was also who created Ultron in the comics, was he not?
@@LordBaktor That's right.
@@LordBaktor Michael Douglas and James Spader were in the Wall Street movie
Yeah, Paul Rudd was perfect casting for this film. It's somehow simultaneously considered one of the best MCU films while also being one of the most underrated MCU films. At the end of the day, Rudd is his usual charming self, and the movie itself is just fun.
Your reaction was: "Crazy stupid fine." Loved it, and thank you for sharing it!
Not counting Avengers, this and the sequel are probably my favorite MCU movies. They really do a lot with the size-manipulation concept, the dialogue and certain moments are hilarious, and they introduced *the* best character in the series, Cassie Lang, and no, that is not up for debate.
me too, the second one gets unwarranted hate
The one and only.... Garret Morris cameo, of the early Saturday Night Live at 9:53 😄
Watching Marvel's Agent Carter and Marvel's Agents of Shield, definitely help fill in many gaps in the MCU, telling stories that happen concurrently between movies, revealing plot lines and telling stories that wouldn't necessarily make full movies.
Your love of Peggy makes me think you'd enjoy watching Agent Carter. It's 2 seasons of a series set right after WW2 showing what happens next for Peggy after the first Captain America film.
Such an under rated show
@@TheTower51 was just about to say that. I second this
Well the first season anyway. The second is ok.
Great reaction. When this first came out I don't thing anybody knew how good it was going to be. I was definitely surprised and it's one of my favorite MCU movies.
Phase 2 to Phase 3 is INCREDIBLE. Marvel was def in their bag with those esp the Captain America franchise. Love the channel and reactions Addie. And yes ants are awesome and Paul Rudd was such an excellent addition to the MCU.
9:52 The actor in the car is Garrett Morris who was the first person to play Ant-Man in live action in a episode of Saturday Night Live.
9:52 -- that actor in the car was Garrett Morris. He was one of the original members of Saturday Night Live. He did a sketch where he played Ant-Man.
Also, when Scott was in the Kirby vacuum, that was an Easter egg to Jack Kirby, the co-creator of Ant-Man.
"Did not kill the _old_ lady. She still threw the jewel into the ocean." I love how reactions' editors can make me notice great lines I've completely forgotten! 😝 🌊🚢💎

Great reaction! This is probably the most underrated movie in the entire MCU and Paul Rudd absolutely nails it as Ant-Man.
@carl gibson The most underrated movie in the entire MCU ? Nah, this movie is meh and forgettable
@@RM-qj8cs I enjoy the way you tell someone else their opinion is wrong. As if such a thing is possible. It’s subjective.
@@butkusfan23 opinions can definitely be wrong. In this case, it is. Whether or not something is "underrated" isn't subjective. Ant-man has an 83% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 85% audience score. How is that underrated?
Whether or not you personally like something is subjective. But this film is objectively highly rated. For comparison, Civil War has a 90% critics score and an 89% audience. So unless you believe this film should be rated higher than Civil War, Ant-man is properly rated.
Somehow "underrated" has become internet short hand for "good". But that isn't what the word means.
@@havok6280when I say it's underrated, it's because I've never heard anyone say it's one of their favourite MCU movies, whereas I've heard plenty of people say it's meh just like the first reply to my initial comment.
As for the Rotten Tomatoes score, I don't know a single person who thinks Rotten Tomatoes is an accurate way of rating a movie, especially with the amount of review-bombing that goes on, and from the amount of likes on our two comments, it would appear that far more agree with me than agree with you.
@@carlgibson285 again that's not what underrated means. Citizen Kane is not my favorite movie. I don't know anyone personally who even likes it. Does that mean it's underrated? I would argue it's overrated.
Further your anecdotal evidence is less compelling than objective criteria. You can quibble about the metrics on Rotten Tomatoes but at least it's a larger sample size than the people you talk to.
As far as review bombing, that only applies to the audience score. That's why I posted the critics score as well.
Odd that you think review bombing means rotten tomatoes is unreliable but you think likes on CZcams substantiate your opinion.
Also worth noting, you posted your comment 7 hours ago. I would hope you'd have more likes than a comment posted an hour ago. CZcams also doesn't show "dislikes". For all you know, 100 people voted down your comment. Plus you don't know why people liked your comment. Maybe they agree that it's a great reaction and that Paul Rudd is excellent. Or maybe people on the internet misuse the word underrated so often that they think it means something it doesn't.
For argument's sake, let's say Rotten Tomatoes is not a good metric. Ant-man made half a billion dollars at the box office and spawned at least two sequels.
Or take it one step further. Is Ant-man better than Iron Man? Is it better than Guardians? Is it better than the Avengers? Can you honestly say there aren't ten MCU movies better than Ant-man? That would place it at the middle of the pack. So it's an average MCU movie. So "meh" would be a proper rating. It may not be anyone's favorite but it's certainly not bad. It's not spectacular but it's entertaining.
Hey Addie, just wanted you to know that your reactions always bring a smile to my face ❤
"that's a messed up looking dog" was Hella funney
Hope saying "It's about damn time" is quite a good reference as well because she's one of the OG Avengers in the comics.
It takes some time to really get a feel for the powers and what they can do with it, but what makes it great is the human element and the character behind the powers, and yeah that relationship with Cassie really helps to make him one of the best avengers even at times when you wouldn't expect his abilities to be useful.
Scott and Cassie are the most lovable, wholesome relationship in the MCU. I love the bait-and-switch with the scary rabbit, at first it looking like Scott just panic shopped with very little money and grabbed the first thing he saw. Then Cassie proclaims "He's so ugly! I LOVE HIM!" showing that Scott knows *exactly* who is daughter is and what she loves. The foundation is laid so well here, and it just keeps paying off in future films, but nowhere more so than Endgame.
Nice reaction Addie. Ant-Man is a great conclusion to Phase 2. Phase 3 is gonna be awesome. You'll definitely love Civil War. BTW, nice sweater.
Idk if anyone’s mentioned it yet (sorry if I missed the comment) but in every Phase 2 movie and show someone loses an arm as a reference to Luke losing his arm in Empire Strikes Back. The connection being that Phase 2 is the second chapter of this saga like Empire was the second chapter, and that Phase 2 gets a little darker like Empire.
'crazy stupid fine' -Stan Lee 🤣🤣🤣
Story telling part amazing😂
Ants are truly the most amazing of all insects!
My two favorite things from this movie is the evolution of Paxton and Scott's relationship and Michael Pena's storytelling. I would love to see Michael do an entire episode of Drunk History in this character
Always amazing how they de age actor Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.
It's so cute how much you love Falcon!
Anna Akana cameo always looks so good!
Crazy stupid-fine! :D
Ant-Man might be the most under rated of all the MCU films. Paul Rudd is great and the rest of the cast does a great job!!!!❤
This movie was a lot of fun! I remember being so excited for this movie mainly because I’m familiar and a fan with Hank Pym’s Ant-Man from the comics. When this movie came out I didn’t know what to expect, but at the end of the day I ended up loving this movie and the sequel! I’m super excited for you to check out the next MCU film!
Scott and Cassie have the best relationship in the entire MCU. Nobody will change my mind on that, lol.
Addie, Evangeline Lilly(Hope) was memorable in "Real Steel," with Hugh Jackman.
Folks ragged on that movie, but I liked it.
Is fun movie that one
6:40 The heist scene was really cool. I love Scott's character, but I'd definitely love to see him get more scenes like this in the MCU which showcase his skills & intelligence lol
Next movie up is Captain America: Civil War, which is really an Avengers movie. Ant-Man is back and we're introduced to Spider-Man and Black Panther. Tom Holland (who plays Spider-Man) was only 17 when he appeared in that movie.
Oh man I am SO EXCITED for you to see this next phase. The next movie changes everything!
Hey, Addie! "Ant-Man" surprised everybody! Despite Hank Pym being one of the five Founding Avengers in the comics, not even readers were clamoring for a movie version of the tiny hero. MCU fans were intrigued but wary especially after Edgar Wright dropped out as director over creative differences. Finally, everyone just decided to trust in Kevin Feige's grand design and did it ever pay off! The result was a spectacular superhero adventure with just the right mix of action, humor and heart! In the comics, Hank Pym's Ant-Man may have co-founded the Avengers with his partner Janet van Dyne aka Wasp, Iron Man, Thor and Hulk but his history with the team is a troubled one. He never felt his power set measured up to the other heavy hitters, he kept changing his identity with his size, he had difficulty reconciling his passion for pure research with an adventuring lifestyle, he had marital trouble with Wasp, he suffered a mental breakdown and, worst of all, he created Ultron! Tony Stark creates the killer A.I. in the MCU but Ultron is Pym's baby in the comics. Pym is actually happy to pass the mantle to Scott Lang when he comes thieving along in "Marvel Premiere" #47 which this film is based on. Lang takes to the superhero lifestyle and his relationship with his daughter Cassie is as depicted on-screen. Pym settled into a sort of emeritus position as tactical support and gadgeteer for the West Coast Avengers simply calling himself Dr. Pym which is similar to his function in the movie. Although he and Janet never had a child, he had an illegitimate daughter called Nadia he never knew about until she was an adult which mirrors Hope's estranged relationship with Hank in the film despite Nadia's very different personality in the comics.
Peyton Reed had directed a couple of successful comedies called "Yes Man" with Jim Carrey and "The Break-Up" with Vince Vaughn but had no experience with an effects-heavy blockbuster. You wouldn't know that from the end result which comes across as smooth and polished. In a departure from the New York-centric MCU, the setting shifts to San Francisco showcasing the West Coast city nicely. The script achieves a perfect balance of comedy, sentiment and thrills but also, crucially, gets the audience past any entomophobia it might have by making the hero's ant allies palatable. Differentiating the three species showcased proves to be fascinating and personalizes the little critters. Shrinking as a story gimmick is as old as "Alice in Wonderland" and has been iconically portrayed in films like "The Incredible Shrinking Man", "The Fantastic Voyage" and "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!" but the size reduction sequences in "Ant-Man" are truly wondrous and imaginative! Scott's first adventure throughout his apartment complex is a memorably dizzying odyssey. A hilariously clever motif is utilized that contrasts titanic insect-size drama with its insignificance when perceived on a human scale. However, it is with the introduction of the Quantum Realm where the film distinguishes itself. Known as the Microverse in the comics, the sub-atomic level of reality is represented as kaleidoscopic geometry and echoing stillness where the rules of normal physics don't apply. This is as true in our world as it is in the MCU.
The cast is great led by Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man whose long list of comedic credits and unassuming good looks make him an affable lead. In yet another remarkable casting coup for Marvel, a post-cancer Michael Douglas was cast as the prickly Dr. Hank Pym, inventor of the Pym Particle and the original Ant-Man who, in the MCU, is a former SHIELD operative prior to becoming a tech magnate. Evangeline Lilly of TV's "Lost" plays his estranged daughter, Hope van Dyne, whose adoption of her mother's maiden name as her surname speaks volumes about family tensions. Corey Stoll brings both pathos and menace to Pym's embittered protege, Darren Cross, whose unstable approximation of the Pym Particle serum fuels the Yellowjacket suit which actually was one of Dr. Pym's monikers in the comics. The supporting cast includes Judy Greer as Scott's ex-wife, Maggie Lang, Abby Ryder Fortson as the adorable Cassie Lang and future Young Avenger Stature, Bobby Cannavale as Cassie's stepfather-to-be, Detective Paxton, and Wood Harris as his partner, Detective Gale. Adding comic relief are Michael Pena as Luis, David Dastmalchian as Kurt and T.I.P. as Dave playing Scott's ex-con buddies with Pena's grapevine monologues making him a stand-out. In the secondary villain role is Martin Donovan as Hydra representative and former SHIELD honcho Mitchell Carson who links the current proceedings with Dr. Pym's SHIELD past in a prologue that features Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter and John Slattery as elder Howard Stark. The digital de-aging done to make Michael Douglas look like his '80's self in that prologue is nothing short of incredible! Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka Falcon makes a surprise appearance that puts Scott on the Avengers' radar. In bit parts are Gregg Turkington as Dale the Baskin Robbins manager, Joe Chrest as Frank the skeptical Pym Tech executive, Jean Louisa Kelly as a Pym Tech employee who remarks on the founder's presence in the lobby, Anna Akana as a guerrilla journalist and Garrett Morris of "SNL" as a cab driver.
TRIVIA:
1. The Pym residence was the same house used for exterior shots of Halliwell Manor in TV's "Charmed".
2. The enlarged tank from Hank's keychain was a functional Soviet T-34-85 given as a goodwill gift to the US by Premier Mikhail Gorbachev in 1991.
3. The rights holders to Thomas the Tank Engine had a number of specific stipulations before permitting use of the character such as not having Thomas run down anyone tied to the tracks!
EASTER EGGS:
1. During Scott's escape from prison astride Antony's back, he flits through a trolley briefly alighting on a commuter's newspaper whose headline reads "Who's to blame for Sokovia?" which references the events of "Age of Ultron" and presages the events of "Civil War".
2. During his presentation, Cross jokes that reports of an ant-sized operative sounded like pulp fiction that would appear in magazines with names like "Tales to Astonish" which is actually the name of the anthology comic Ant-Man's adventures first appeared in before he graduated to his own title.
3. Scott and Luis share an apartment in the Milgrom Hotel named after comic book artist Al Milgrom.
4. When guerrilla journalist Anna Akana tells Falcon he has to specify who he's seeking because she has information on people with various abilities including one 'who crawls up the walls', she is making the MCU's first reference to Spider-Man!
CAMEOS:
1. Garrett Morris' cameo as the driver of the cab Scott lands on after his first time using the suit is a tribute to Morris' portrayal of Ant-Man on a 1979 "Saturday Night Live" sketch called 'Superhero Party' which was the character's first live-action appearance!
2. Stan Lee appears as a bartender in Luis' closing grapevine monologue commenting on Anna Akana's good looks.
END-CREDIT SCENES:
1. Dr. Pym shows Hope an unfinished upgrade to the Wasp suit he and his wife, Janet, were designing when they were working for SHIELD. He proposes that he and Hope finish the suit together so that she can make use of it which she agrees to enthusiastically.
2. The second end-credit scene is an excerpt from "Captain America: Civil War" that has Falcon and Cap debating what to do with a captive Bucky.
The next chronological stop in the MCU are Episodes 1-19 of Season 3 of "Agents of SHIELD".
😅 Addie tries mind control from a distant, she is so cute and emerged fully in the movie 😅
Hayley Atwell playing the role of Peggy Carter (founder of S.H.I.E.L.D), a character older than Michael Douglas' s Hank Pym... is like woah 😰 TECHNOLOGY!! This movie was just fun and wholesome.
Rest in peace Antony, you were gone too soon
Great Channel Addie. Love your Marvel and Rocky reviews.
Hi Addie! Thanks for giving me a reason to revisit Ant-Man again. Great reaction. I noticed you enjoyed recognizing Peggy Carter and saw that you were trying to recognize the others as well. You may have recognized Tony's Stark's dad Howard Stark in the beginning. If not, you'll see more of them later. Continue enjoying the MCU adventure and looking forward to the next one.
The talk when that Infinity War came out was "Where was Ant-Man?". It seemed obvious he could have sorted out Thanos quite easily.
Paul Rudd makes Scott Lang lovable. He's hilarious!
I can't wait for you to Start Phase 3! Even the first movie in that just shakes things up so much!
Ant Man is the jewel of the Marvel Universe.
You were super with the reactions to the first Ant-Man film, Addie!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽They really did a great job with a lighter hearted Marvel film. Well cast too, with a great heroine and bad guy.
This was a great film. I love the shrunken fight scenes, they remind me of a few other films I'd love to see Addie react to:
- Epic
- Arthur & the Invisibles
- Honey, I shrunk the kids
- The Borrowers
- Stuart Little, etc.
Love this movie. So funny. The little girl is just precious. When I was young. I got chased by my neighbors dog up a tree. The tree was covered in fire ants 🐜 so I was stuck there. Them eating me alive lol. And I’m a kids from the 80’s so my mom just gave me first aid and kicked me out the house to play again 😂. No emergency services needed.
This is one of my three favorite Marvel movies, and part of that is that it totally disrupts the very grim spin that has come from and accelerated in the previous movies (and may continue accelerating in future movies after this one) and provides us with a serious comic relief superhero movie. And, in spite of that comedy, it still fits perfectly into the total scheme. Paul Rudd is genius in this role, but the rest of the cast also fits together brilliantly. Love it.
btw that was Howard Stark at the start, with the big white mustache.
A man with all the powers of an aunt.

This was the first time I was impressed by ILM's de-aging tech. 1989 Michael Douglas looked great.
What until you see the storytelling scene in Ant-man and the Wasp. Hilarious.
This actually follows some of the comic book origins of Scott Lang, the 2nd Ant-man. In that storyline, Scott steals the suit to pull off a heist to save Cassie's life from a terrible ailment. He becomes Ant-man and an Avenger full-time along with starting his own security business. Scott is a good man who tries to do the right thing, but his former employer fired him for it. That leads him to make the decisions that led to his incarceration when we first met him in the movie.
Yeah; "Once you hit play you have to listen to the whole song." LOL.
Just occurred to me that the Baskin Robbins manager looks surprisingly like Bobcat Goldthwait.
