"You will never win."
"No. But I can lose. Again. And again. And again. And that makes you my prisoner."
one of the coldest badass boasts in all of marvel right there
Also : Benedict vs. Benedict, as he was Dormammu as well.
Beating Dormammu even in his limited form is more impressive than anyone beating Thanos to me
Dr. Strange is actually mentioned in Winter Soldier, in the scene where they kidnap Sitwell and take him on top of the roof of that building. Sitwell spills his guts about Zola’s algorithm, and is listing a few people who are considered threats to Hydra. Stephen Strange is on that list. When you have a chance, go back and watch that scene.
he's also mentioned in I think Spiderman 2, although that's technically a variant.
Not many people notice this detail!
@@addy3284 Every comic fan noticed it when we first saw Winter Soldier in the theater :)
@@ISavant Yeah that was before the MCU even existed. In that case it was more of an inside joke; the character was more obscure.
People like Addie who react to these films for the first time tend to not catch hints like that. That's what re-watching is for: Catching the things you missed the first time (in the MCU's case, you notice the hints leading into future movies).
The tiniest detail to look for on Steven’s watch, you can see the date of his car crash when he selects it from his drawer; it’s February 2nd… Groundhog Day. And he saves the world using a time loop.
Love this movie, one of my favorites in the MCU, getting closer and closer to more Avengers, but the inbetween movies are so damn good, I’m excited to see what you think of each one.
I love The Ancient One, she was such a cool and wise character... a perfect mentor to someone like Doctor Strange, who learns very quickly, but hard headed and in need of some serious humbling.
This might be my favorite MCU film. It's weird, it's trippy, and Benedict plays it so well.
mine too
yes talking to himself was pretty cool
But the question is, which Benedict?
It is the best...... No cap now
Agreed. The casting for this movie is amazing.
Oh wow. I had never considered using the eye to heal his nerves before!
The scream was a beautiful, unscripted moment... the kind that make movies so much better. On one take, the mop happened to fall and it startled the actress. The scream was real.
I'm pretty sure I heard this isn't true (i.e. that the mop was, in fact, rigged to fall) -- but it's still possible they didn't tell the actress, Rachel, they were going to do that.
@@bigdream_dreambig That is very possible, yes. I don't know the specific details.
@@bigdream_dreambig not rigged, serendipity. Her reaction was so honest, it was used. It has been reported repeatedly.
Holy hell, that Mickey Mouse cut had me laughing for like 5 minutes. Perfectly edited!
Marvel did a 15 minute preview for this in IMAX as they did for Guardians. I was so impressed by the presentation that going to this was a guarantee. This is 1 of the few flicks I’ve seen were I felt 3D really added to the immersion.
Introducing: Wong, the best character in the MCU.
Fun fact: 2:58 The song playing here is "Interstellar Overdrive" from the first Pink Floyd album. It's not the first time they've had a connection with Doctor Strange. He is faintly visible on the cover for their second album, "A Saucerful of Secrets".
6:03 😆
I love how both Tony and Strange start out as arrogant geniuses but learn to care about something other than themselves. When I collected comics I never cared for Dr. Strange, the MCU made me like their version of him.
Note that Tony & Steven strike a lot of sparks interacting.
Nice sleuthing, Sherlock. Don't need a House to fall on you, do you? (no offense, just going for the puns...)
1:32 - "How are they doing this?"
Us - Oh boy....here we go.
20:50 - The falling mop was not part of the script and Rachel McAdams' startled scream is genuine. Director Scott Derrickson was impressed McAdams didn't break character that he kept it in the movie.
That's always the great irony that the only doctor that could've corrected Stephen's condition would've been Stephen but if he couldn't pay he would still be in the same position.
The actress who plays the Ancient One, Tilda Swinton, is pretty amazing. She’s won an Oscar for her role in “Michael Clayton,” she played the evil White Witch in the Narnia series, the Angel Gabriel in “Constantine,” and a vampire in “Only Lovers Left Alive” (also with Tom Hiddleston).
If you’re a big fan of Rachel McAdams, I recommend a little-known Canadian series she was in called “Slings and Arrows.”
McAdams was also in Sherlock holmes. :)
"Slings and Arrows" was great! IIRC, it's kinda a workplace comedy revolving around a professional Shakespearian theatre company in Canada's famous Shakespearian theatre community of Stratford, ON. If you enjoy it, I think it shared a lot of humour and cast members with another workplace comedy around the same era, this one focused on a news broadcast and called "The Newsroom" (not to be confused with Aaron Sorkin's American drama of the same name from a few decades later, which is also great). That second show helped launch the career of seminal Canadian comic Rick Mercer, who went on to do savage political satire on what might be called the weekly Canuck version of The Daily Show, titled "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" (still running nearly 30 years later, too!).
Rachel McAdams is a ridiculously-talented actor. I don't think she gets nearly the credit she deserves, even though she gets a fair bit.
@@michaelccozens Yes, Slings and Arrows is set in a fictional Shakespeare Festival, and each season is built around one big play production. The first is “Hamlet,” the second is “Macbeth” (with a side of “Romeo and Juliet”), and the third is “King Lear.” Besides the regular cast, many of whom have a ton of credits (although Paul Gross might be the most recognizable) each season has at least one guest that a lot of the public might recognize: 1 - Rachel McAdams, 2 - Geraint Wyn-Davies, 3 - Sarah Polley.
I have Mean Girls on my computer - Rachel is a quality actress.
Oh yes, the beginning of the Wong Cinematic Universe😂
My favorite quote of the move...
"You'd think after all this time I'd be ready, but look at me. Stretching one moment out into a thousand just so I can watch the snow."
Your journey through the MCU has finally brought you to the WCU(the Wong Cinematic Universe). Strap in for a fun ride.
WONGERS!!!
Ok the Mackey mouse bit killed me 😆😆😆
Loved your reactions to Doctor Strange, Addie.
I believe Strange will keep the watch as it is, to remind him of what he used to be, before the car accident and how much he has changed.
In a " Strange " way, the car accident was the best thing to happen to him.
Addie, if you want to see more of Benedict Cumberbatch, please check out the British BBC tv show Sherlock. You will love it. :)
Addie -- As is often the case with British television, Sherlock doesn't have very many episodes per season, so it wouldn't be as much of a commitment as you might first assume.
The Ancient One also said he could go back to his old life and the world would be all the worse for it. So keeping the watch broken is symbolic of not choosing to go back to his old life.
Surgeons and musicians make their living with their hands. Some actually insure their hands in case something happens. Dr. Strange was incredibly good at neurosurgery that it never crossed his mind that something bad could happen to take away what he thought was the only thing he could give the world through his hands. He is very much like Tony before becoming Ironman. Unlike Tony, Strange began a journey that made him rely on leaps of faith rather than on technology and medicine.
Alternate title: The Adventures of Mr. Doctor and Mr. Cape.
...... Cloak.
Mordo's Doc Strange's oldest nemesis in the comics, both of them being disciples of The Ancient One, with Mordo betraying their teacher. They made some significant retcons (for far from the first time, as it largely comes with the territory) to some of the characters and mythos, but I think they did an excellent job capturing the essence of Doctor Strange himself. It's a fun flick.
There's still a lot of ground to cover, but I'm REALLY looking forward to the "Spider-Man" trilogy, ESPECIALLY the last one. All three are great fun to watch, but the third one has some... unique traits... which set it apart from anything that's come before in the MCU.
Oh, and we'll be seeing quite a bit of Doctor Strange in the MCU before the next movie in his series.
Strange: She was complicated.
Addie: Aren't we all?
Me: You speak the truth right there.
Anyways, this was a great hero origin film for me. I like magic stuff. Also, fun fact: Benedict played as Strange and as Dormammu. So in a way, the hero was facing his very own demon and this is probably the first time the main actor plays the main hero and villain.
I’m glad you enjoyed this movie! I love Benedict’s portrayal as Doctor Strange. One of my favorite characters in this universe and in the comics! I continue to look forward to more adventures in the MCU as always, and I’m excited for the next film you’re gonna be watching! Hope you have a great day, Addie! Btw, that Mickey Mouse bit during the reaction made me chuckle! xD
Second one was amazing as well
His cloak is definitely iconic in the comics, they did a great job of representing it here.
I believe that the Cloak of Levitation used to be Aladdin's magic carpet in a previous life.
“The bill comes due, always.” Remember that line. Actions (whether good or bad) have consequences
Basically TT games
This is a fun movie, and yes the cloak is quite the character. :)
This movie did sort of come out of nowhere no real hint that Dr. Strange was coming in earlier movies. But that also makes it fun.
Loved your reaction as always.
In the winter soldier steven strange is mentioned when talking about zolga’s algorithm when talking about threats. He was mentioned along with people in avengers tower and that.
18:57 "Thank you mister cape sir" (foreshadowing). Addie you are so cute! Love your reactions, specially your jump scares
Benedict Cumberbatch's acting in Doc strange is what made me fall with the character. I absolutely adore his other projects also but he absolutely killed it in Marvel movies. Loved the reaction btw . Dr strange by far the best Avenger for me other than OG Iron man or capt America
I’m having fun on this journey. It’s so interesting following different people in different place reacting to the MCU.
Mister Doctor was one of my favorite gags in the MCU.
Awesome reaction, Addie. Doctor Strange is another great MCU entry. Just wait until you see the next movie when you get to Phase 4, it's gonna be insane.
6:04, "Uh-huh." (x2, cut to an image of Mickey Mouse on the second one)
When Strange activated the time loop, the movie makes it like he died like 10 times, but canonically he was in the loop for as long as DECADES. Goes to show how endurance is the real deal sometimes.
I think Doctor Strange is my favorite Avenger. In the sense of which power set I'd most want to have for myself. It's very much a power where your limits are your imagination and how you can mix and combine basic effects. As far as personality and who I'd just want to hang out with... Probably Spider Man. Just a geek like me lol. But Thor is still up there for me. A nice, fun, guy with a lot of power, he knows how to joke around and have fun.
One of my favorite MOVIES in the MCU.
3:05 The 35 year old Airforce Colonel that Dr. Strang does want to work on is Rhodey (War Machine)
SS: "She was complicated"
Addie: "Aren't we all."
Truest truth ever truthed.
When i first saw this in theaters i was drunk and high and holy hell was it one of the best visual experiences ive seen
Considering the fact that the original artist, Steve Ditko, drew Dr. Strange in 1960's New York means that the intro that Stephen Strange gets to magic is very accurate to the beginning of the series. Considering what I've heard about Ditko over the years, the psychedelic drawings he did were very likely drug induced. Either way, that art makes you feel like you're on an Acid trip, without having to take any drugs. So for once, the movie, in those scenes at least, is VERY accurate to the original source material.
As a veteran I must add, there is a difference between 'drug induced' and drug 'appreciated'. There are several scientific studies which show the use of Psychedelics does not enhance abilities while under the influence - orb weaver spider webs are a good example of inability to create much less function. Use of psychedelics allows appreciation of types of music and art beyond what is 'normal. One could also say use allows creation through experience afterwards.
Sure, the movie's effects are very cool, but nothing in my own experience ever looked or seemed that way. It's hard to explain 'colors' to a blind person.
that “like what, like you?” ALWAYS GETS ON MY NERVES
I watched this movie at home when i was tired and a little drunk in a dark room. No one warned me it was gonna be that trippy.
the crazy thing that people don't realize is that when Strange is in the time loop with dormammu, it's very likely that he spent years and years.. maybe hundreds or thousands or even millions of (earth years) trapped in a cycle.. being killed and/or tortured in millions of different ways. it's a short little snippet of the movie, but the implications of what he experienced are kind of horrific. you can imagine that once dormammu realized strange had the upper hand, an evil god like that would probably enjoy just making strange suffer for a good while before he let him go.
I don't have much to say about the movie besides the fact that I think it's one of the greatest movies in the MCU. Hearing Addie strongly swear at 31:08 absolutely caught me off-guard though!
And now imagine that you are watching the film in a 3D IMAX cinema! Especially at the beginning, when the world of magic is revealed to Steven, it was a roller coaster ride for the stomach :-D
"The Neverending Story" would be great for a reaction video.
I watched that movie and loved it as a kid. And always love every movie as an adult even that i loved as a kid.
Just not the neverending story. Its terrible! Couldnt make it 20 minutes into it.
This film was cool and bonkers, it was entertaining, fun and funny to watch. I glad that film has worked so well.
The weapons that Kaecilius and his zealots are using are called Space-Time Shards, literally solid folds of reality.
The Mickey Mouse on the “uh huh” broke me! I laughed harder than I should have! Yeah, the release order got a little screwy during this phase. They worked Spider-Man into Civil War to introduce him before his movie was done, Black Panther got shuffled around some. Chronologically, it should be Civil War, then Homecoming and Black Panther right after, then Doctor Strange, Ragnarok, then Infinity War. Guardians Volume 2 takes place only a few months after the first movie so technically probably before Age of Ultron. Even though it’s a little mixed up, it still works out in the end though!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the movie definitely Doctor Strange is one of my favorite Marvel heroes he’s number one in my book
Hey Addie. Great reaction as usual. If you thought Benedict Cumberbatch was good as Dr. Strange, you should see him in "Sherlock." His best performance by far in my opinion🙂
never noticed before but right before his crash, Dr. Strange is speaking on the phone about a new patient, an Air Force Colonel who is paralyzed....James Rhodes aka War Machine.
One thing to consider with the time stone , is that humans and strange cant reverse time or manipulated it in large scales . If you noticed ,the stone aims where the time changes and in the last fight strange needed lot of strength to reverse time there . Also strange knows that if he messes with time , very nasty things could go wrong. So the atone isnt a solution for anything .
Thank you for your always kind reactions :)
When Strange is talking about some of the cases that he might take on in the car right before the crash they mention a 34-year-old Air Force Colonel. They are talking about Roadie from Iron Man who got hurt in Civil War.
Ah ....no
Hurry up!!! You must finish phase 3, weeeerrreee waiting! Love your reactions and awaiting your next MCU adventure
Another great reaction from an awesome Lady to an excellent film. 👍
Movies like Doctor Strange and Guardians Of The Galaxy really blow the walls off of the MCU and expand it more fully into the upcoming narrative.
This movie supplanted Iron Man as my favorite Marvel character. I love the mystical side of the MCU.
Both Strange and Stark are also the world’s greatest detectives.
Have a great day everyone
Not all capes wear heroes.
This is by far the BEST Marvel movie that exists to this day.
Start to finish, you dont need to know ANYTHING, about any other movie. This movie completely stands on its own, start to finish, with solid characters/story/visuals/and lore.
This is the best Marvel movie. I'll DIE on this hill....
Seconds before the car crash the guy on the phone says "I have a 35 year old Air Force Colonel". That was Rhodes after his fall in the War Machine suit from Civil War.
Dr.Strange is one of the Strongest Avenger out there
At the start when they say "A 35 year old air force colonel" in the car. They are talking about Rhodey who was hit by vision in Civil War and is still recovering.
Or the test pilot in Iron Man 2
@@matthewkreps3352 They said Colonel. I doubt a Colonel would be working as a test pilot but they do leave it to the imagination so could be.
"Doctor Strange" was teased in "Captain America Winter Soldier". In the scene where Cap, Sam, and Natasha are interrogating Agent Sitwell on the rooftop, he gives a couple of examples of people who would be targeted by "Project Insight": Bruce banner and Steven Strange.
Just wanted to say, I really enjoy your reactions to movies. Keep up the good work!
a very good intro to the character Dr Strange love your reaction glad you enjoyed it :D
3:05 The 35 year old air force colonel the guy on the phone is talking about is the guy who was testing Justina Hammer's suit in "Iron Man 2".
I just got that easter egg. "I've got a 35-year old Army colonel." Warmachine. Spinal trauma.
Not a cape, the cloak of levitation.
3:05 "I've got a 35 year old Air Force Colonel" is referencing Col. James "Rhodey"
Rhodes in his fall and spinal injury during the events of "Captain America: Civil War."
Doctor Strange is one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel Universe.
Anytime magic is involved, or something too weird for other heroes to deal with, he's the one they go to.
That Mickey cut!❤😂❤ Ohh boy!
Give STAR TREK a chance. Please! 🖖
@@dirtycash36 just because i want her to watch my favorite franchise?
Star trek is a major undertaking though even if she skips the original series. TNG and DS9 alone is loads and loads of episodes.
@@DaDunge She doesn't have to watch everything! The 10 best episodes from the classic "Star Trek" series and the 10 best episodes from "The Next Generation" are enough to start with the films!
@@martinbraun1211 Why would she watch the films? They're not even among the 100 best star trek media.
I love your reaction Addie. ❤
I'm glad the carpet from Aladin was able to find work in this movie.
Great reactions to another film in your MCU journey, Addie!!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Similar visual effects with the city were first seen in the film "Inception" (2010). That is a trippy movie!🙂
Everytime I think of this movie, it saddens me to remember how the Academy robbed it of a very deserved Oscar for the special effects😭
They only give comic book movies an Oscar if someone dies.
@@Caseytify does that mean they're going to retroactively give an Oscar to "The Incredible Hulk", since Wiliam Hurt was a major part of it? 🤔😅
Wong is a national treasure
He decided to leave the watch in its broken condition as a reminder/souvenir of his past (broken) self.
Pretty sure the “35 year old Air Force Colonel” is an Easter egg referring to Colonel Rhodes (aka War Machine) who lost full use of his legs during Civil War.
Great job Addie. You're really getting through these at a good pace. I hope you have some scary movies coming up soon though, I mean it's the right month for it. Really hope you'll do Alien. Keep up the great work.
I would love to see her watch the first two Alien movies!
@@testfire3000 Me too
Your reaction just hits 🔥🔥
3:06 in case you missed it, that’s a reference to Rhodey
I just saw your show: the sound of music, you were amazing!
Doctor Strange is my favorite MCU hero. I love the movie and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange is a perfect casting.
Doctor Strange is my absolute FAVORITE Marvel superhero.
Addie, watch Fantastic Four 1&2 & X-Men series before leading up to Multiverse of Madness. It's a big deal.
absolutely
i guess she should just do it fast because it's alot to catching up to understand
Yep.Good thing she already watched the older Spider-Man movies before leading up to No Way Home.
she doesn't need to though
13:38 - The spell to repair a watch is "horologium reparo".
So cool, I can't wait to get off work to watch! 💖💗
It is a tiny detail, but at 3:05 the "Air Force Colonel" they are talking about is Rhodey (War Machine) after his crash from Vision blasting out his chest.
"Dormammu, I've come to bargain."
I missed this in the theatre, too. Had to watch it on tiny 4-inch screen on a 13 hour flight. lol
I love your liveliness! Deinitely gonna keep on watching.
Shout to whoever edited this for the Mickey insert! 🤣
This is a story about learning humility.
Also, finding one's true purpose.
Wong is probably my second favorite MCU character, behind Spidey. He's everywhere, just you wait.
when he's talking about possible cases he would take, he declines a military person's case... that was war machine after civil war when he falls and breaks his back.
22:16 Stan Lee is reading the "The Doors of Perception" a 1954 book written by Aldous Huxley. Also where the group The Doors got their name.
In the comic, Wong was Stephen's servant. He's a lot more here and we'll see more of him.
Gotta love the Cloak of Levitation! 😂
