I remember how sad i was when Schmeichel left and we got Barthez, then Van der Sar came and he was perfect.
The biggest mistake Ferguson made perhaps? At least he said it himself during Edwin hist farewell game in Amsterdam. He should have contracted him much earlier after Schmeichel left.

I still cant believe that till now....he was playing for Fulham that long and no one except The Great Sir ALEX couldn't see the greatness of Sir Edwin Van Der Sar and brought him in to complete his long awaited dream to become the Champions League Winner again 😍🥰🥰 Sir Alex was none like other managers.....he literally could turn a normal players to a superstar and he always kept his CLub as his 1st priority and when a player is about to outshine United,no matter how good they are....he will sell it to other clubs and thus begins his system of bringing ordinary player into another great players ;!!! A real true special talented Manager of all time 😍😍

Van Der Sar fu l'unico portiere in grado di "compensare" a Manchester, l'immenso vuoto che si era creato tra i pali con l'addio di una leggenda come Peter Smeichel. Ferguson fu bravissimo a scrollargli subito quel peso da dosso e a farlo esprimere ad altissimi livelli, quei livelli che non riuscì ad esprimere alla Juventus, semplicemente perchè capito in un periodo in cui alla Juve non ne girava una buona con la gestione Ancelotti

Neuer and De Gea are completely different keepers: Neuer relies on positioning, De Gea on reflexes. Actually Van Der Sar's and Neuer's goalkeeping styles are somehow similar.
giwrgos alafouzos it was his positioning, it made the saves look easy but really he always knew where to be which de Gea doesn’t and just leans on his insane reflexes. I think he’s the smartest goalkeeper there’s ever been because of his positioning and awareness of the game.

I am Spaniard and I always saw people playing for our national team that were absolute cracks in their clubs but too spread through the decades... and suddenly a wonderful generation along with a disruptive style and we won things. I am pretty sure this is Netherland's destiny in the short or mid term. And this day, football will be more fair.
It's the Eredvise League. Ajax isn't the same Ajax of past. It's football academy has fallen behind. It produces promising players but most don't deliver the expectations at the end and become mediocre players. It shines from time to time...but is no longer a contestant for top tier clubs from England, Spain, Italy or Germany.
