This is the man who made me play as goalkeeper. Believe me because of him I have been a very good goalkeeper. I have been third time best goalkeeper of holidays championship in Cameroon in my area. I remember people used to say that I played like Thomas Nkono, I was so proud. Thank you TOMMY.⚽️🇨🇲

I'm Brazilian, in 1982, Brazil had one of its greatest teams in history and N'Kono played this Cup. Here we were all impressed by the quality of this fantastic goalkeeper. In addition to being technically very good, he had a huge tranquility. If we had a goalkeeper of this level in our team, we would have won the Cup.

1982 was the 1st world cup that i watched and Cameroon had a great team. Him and Milla were outstanding.

In 1982 I was just a boy... I was so impressed by 'Nkono... I found him amazing and seeing him today reminds me that he was really amazing. I don't know if he was the best goalkeeper ever or so on, but I know he was great and full of grace ... it was a pleasure to see him saving against my team (Italy)

He is the greatest GK of All times. Forget about race, championhips he didn't won or or whatever. When its just about skills, even Yashin, Khan or Peter Schmeichelt who are much taller than him cant match with him. There is a lot of footages showing his unbelievable performances and he was one of the reasons why people went to stadium. I had the privilege to see him from the very beginning. He is the Best goalie EVER!

Nehemie, Nkono was one of the best of his generation but remember Cameroon has been all time a nursery of talented football players. What are you going to say about Roger Milla ? Theophile Abega and Pierre Tokoto Nkono’s team mates during WC 1882? And during WC 90, Omam Biyick and Roger Milla were just among the best players ask to Diego Maradona. And more recently Samuel Eto’o and Patrick Mboma were just geniuses during 2000 - 2010. Milla was nominated Best African player of the 20th century and I think Eto’o, Milla and Nkono are just among best world football players of all time.

I grew up watching this Elastic man when Morocco was facing Cameroon. We had a great goalie as well named Zaki. Africa has always produced exceptional Goalies. Elastic man Nkono was a penalty specialist. If you noticed he would follow the ball not a side when a penalty is shot.

In 1982 I was 10 years and I watched Italy-Cameroon (World Cup '82). I was so amazed and inspired by his almost impossible moves that during that game I became his fan and a Cameroon fan forever: I root for them at every World Cup they partecipate.

I was a 7 year old kid watching the 82' WC by mere accident, I was playing around with other little kids as the older folk watched the TV. Suddenly something made everyone cheer with enthusiasm: It was the Chat Noir doing an espectacular save. Then, I watch every game, and played in the streets afterwards. Next, day I popped up again to see what game was on... I happen to discover Zico and his host of stars pummeling Scotland. Happy times then!

Je ne sais pas si c'était question de racisme, peut être mais il faut remarquer qu'en ce temps là c'était pas facile d'engager des joueurs étrangers: 2 or 3 maximum. Je connais le foot-ball italien et on avait des très bon gardiens de but italiens à ce temps là, alors on allait choisir des avants ou des milieu, c'était presque impossible de chercher de gardiens de but à l'étranger.
Droide C oui mais tu dis que tu connais mal le.football italien, seulement l'espagnol de Barcelone c'est en Espagne.. Sauf si je n'ai pas bien saisis le.sens de ta phrase.. Par ailleurs je reconnais que les étrangers c'était pas facile pour eux.. Roger Milla a été capitaine à Troyes dans les années 80 et plein de joueurs de notre équipe nationale étaient en Europe quand-même.. Crois-moi il y avait du niveau c'est pas pour rien qu'on a battu l'Argentine de Maradona mais l'Angleterre nous a sorti en quarts

To me, Tommy Nkono (nicknamed, I believe, the 'Black Panther' of Cameroon) is by far THE BEST GOALKEEPER EVEEEE...R!!! In fact, that relatively 'small' country of Cameroon seems always blessed with excellent goalies (like Tony Bell, Jacky Sango, Ali Boukar... and, currently, Andre Onana at Ajax-Amsterdam) and, generally, exceptionally good footballers (for example super-strikers like Samuel Eto'o, Roger Miller, Pat Mboma...).
