      @@senditworldwide9473, not in this case. For instance, in the phrase, "God is good," you would capitalize the _G._ On the other hand, in the sentence, "The Greeks had many gods," the _G_ remains lower-case. Basically, when the term "god" functions as a specific name, we capitalize the _G._
      And on the contrary, Alec Ruston-this is not delusional, just proper grammar. So, next time you almost crash on your bike, you would write, "Thank God!" when you text your mom.

    I made a 26 inch hard tail at the Bicycle Academy years ago, about 3 years after they opened. It's been down FoD, Windhill, Afan and even Bike Park Wales a few times. All Columbus tubing fillet brazed by myself. One of the best things I've done, Doddy, you should definitely do it you'd do a better job that me.

    Very cool! There's no doubt about that. As a welder though I am rather concerned with most of those welds knowing how much Blake sends it with his amazing skills. I've been thinking of building my own actually (the dream would be ti). I think it's pretty badass, I just hope that Blake stays safe and does not get hurt. Other than that, more power to it, bravo!

    My father built my first BMX bike out of some sort of light steel about 35 years ago (frame, handle bars and forks). I sent that bike over every jump I could find or make for about 6 years. My mates use to rip me off as it didn't have a brand label on it and was painted with a spray can by myself. But it was lighter than any of theirs so they loved riding it too. Although, Dad did forget to put brakes on it hence we learnt real quick the meaning of full commitment to any feature. Watching Blake build that bike bought back many great memories...thankyou.

    How's this for a bodge: you could dish the rear wheel so the hub is closer to the drive-side dropout.

    • @oleg..
      @oleg.. Pƙed 2 lety

      You cannot. I'm pretty sure that the dropouts are not level, putting the wheel diagonally. You could, however, grind one of the dropouts...

    • @andrewince8824
      @andrewince8824 Pƙed 2 lety +1

      It's stronger and safer to cut the defective dropout and fabricate a new one. Dished wheels tend to be a little bit weaker as it is, exaggerating that dish makes it worse.

    Fantastic work, Blake, and it does recall the early days of it all, the BMX and mountain bike movements of the '70s when lots of frames were modified or fabricated for racing. And it'd be cool to see the progression with another frame for Doddy, same design, larger frame, better steel and welds and such.

    Huge respect to Blake for that bike, having done it myself, I know how hard it is to do right. Before I had spine surgery, riding conventional bikes was too painful, so a friend & I made an off road recumbent. Getting the head angle right was a complete pain in the arse, sadly we got it very wrong & it developed an alarming wobble at anything above walking pace. Recumbent off road bikes need full suspension & that worked well, but the rest of it was an absolute dog. Eventually, I got my surgery & scrapped the project. I still can't ride outside, but I put the MTB in my turbo trainer & I'm getting fit. If I did it again, I would love to try bamboo.

    Something significant happened here. A real lesson to be learned.
    Those welds are so dirty
. But I love the fact that he did what he wanted, rode and raced it, and it worked. The take-away? You don’t need the best stuff all the time and nothing has to be perfect. So many get hung up on perfection or having the latest tech, but it just doesn’t matter. Even the welding. Not saying you shouldn’t strive for the best welding but here again these welds with low penetration and tons of porosity worked.
    Time and time again in all areas of life, don’t avoid doing something or starting something because you think / have been told / assume you can’t. Screw it, just get out there and do it.

    Bamboo is also a great DIY frame building material, I've built a couple now and both are great

      @@gospodinkenobi9903 You'd have to stick weld it....

      @@RealMTBAddict Feels kinda like carbon actually, obviously not same strength to weight so it's a bit heavier but has the vibration damping quality. Definitely not flexible/power sappy

    Well done Blake that bike reminds me of the build on a bike I did. But I had a person weld the frame for me in his jig. Then little by Little it came together it was a great bike to ride unfortunately I don’t have it anymore I gave it to a person who was getting into mountain biking. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there.

    If you've got access to a tig welder you can go over your welds and tidy them up. (if it's something that's bothering you that much) when I was fabricating I leaned more towards function over form, my friends spent more time on keeping things nice but it took them a fair bit longer from start to finish.

    I'm sure there's many people that thought how hard can it be to build a bike, and it's epic to build a bike from scratch and fingers crossed doddy can do something like this.

    Devizes Steel Supplies is great and their location means one can get a nice ride in while picking up nuts, bolts and other little bits.
