    I've been making facemasks with my fabric scraps. My sister, her hubby, his brother and mother are leaving for London in a months (for 6 months medical treatment for one of them) so I plan on making several more facemasks as going away presents for them.

    Disposable straws are really important for disabled people. Reusable straws don't bend and hold their shape, are difficult to clean, and have to be remembered. Disposable straws can allow someone to drink if they are laying down, always come sterile, and are typically readily available.
    It's important to try to reduce personal waste and consumption, but that really shouldn't come at the cost of disabled people's quality of life.
    That being said, these were very cute ideas for smaller bits of fabric!

    • @za4890
      @za4890 Před 3 lety +3

      I've seen places that ask if you need a straw when you pick up your drink, which feels like a great middle road. It should always be an option for accessibility sake. (And straw bans are awful.) But most people who don't need one don't bother to get one so it greatly reduces the number which are used.

    Always enjoy your projects! I’ve found that gently cleaning the needle (while in place) with a cotton ball dipped in alcohol will easily remove the glue from the velcro. Just gently move the cotton ball up and down the needle. No need for a new needle.

    The needle booklet can also be made with a pinked cover. I'd recommend still doing a straight stitch around just inside of the pinked edge, so that there can't be any thread-snag accidents.

    An easier way to cut a circle is to fold your fabric into quarters and measure from the apex fold out to whatever you want your measurement to be. You will be using the radius measurement plus seam allowance. Saves a lot of time in measuring & cutting.

      Thank you for the round cushion tutorial. I've been busy with a round floor cushion and been struggling to find a tutorial for a cover including a zip. After seeing yours, I took the plunge and it worked so well. Looks so amazing. I did take the long route though and put my zip on while my material was still a rectangle and only thereafter did I trim it down to match the front circle. Couldn't afford for the measurements to be off cause I don't have much of the material anymore. Just wanted to say thank you.

    Thanks for your projects! I love seeing them pop up on your feed. :) I have just a couple of questions ... 1. Re: Round cushion. I noticed that there appears to be puckering around the edge of cushion. Would nicking or small Vs to ease the sides together once the cushion inset is inserted stop the puckering, &/or would piping be another answer to this issue. I also prefer feather inserts for my square and oblong cushions, but would the feathers give the same soft and a more quality finish to the round cushion, or would it spoil the appearance? If so, would say 60% feather to 40% poly filling be better suited to it?
    2. Re: Needle case. Do you think that a double sided cover with a later of felt in-between the layers provide a better quality cover for the cover? Is there a reason that you used regular felt as opposed to Doctor's flannel? Do you think that a little tab with Velcro on each side keep the air from getting to the needles? I live right on the edge of the beach in Hervey Bay and I've found that a few of my needles have gone a tad rusty, as have a few pins, if left exposed to the air.
    I also have a couple of crystal bowls whose lids I've managed to break, so I was wondering if I should turn one into a largish pin cushion, glued inside the bottom of the bowl, or if i should use one that still has an undamaged lid? Although I have thought that I was buying stainless steel, and quality brands of threads and needles, they still manage to rust.
    It's just occurred to me that if I sew in a couple of the small silica gel packets of beads, both in the crystal pin cushion, and inside the needle case inside cover, it may assist to resolve this matter. I'll certainly be rather chuffed if they work as I think they should! :)
    Thanks again for all of your suggestions, Cheers, Wendy M.
