When I see Valtteri nowadays, I have an impression that he mentally checked out from the sport, going through motions and giving his regular instead of his best.
Yup, every drivers dream is to become world champion but it seems that during his last two years at Mercedes he completely convinced himself that he cannot beat the guys at the top (he even said he had to accept he wasn't good enough to beat Ham)
So now that his dream is shattered there isn't a good reason to push himself and he's now on his way out
He also seems to be putting a lot of energy into off track projects. I think he's a little mentally checked out, like Vettel seemed in his final few years.
That, plus his own shortcomings mentioned in the video, plus some bad luck have resulted in awful results so far this year, Bahrain aside.

@@pz189 I think Valtteri's situation is more like Raikkönens. Vettel just simply wanted to drive for a top team and when he went to Aston it was literally one of the worse cars on the grid so he had zero motivation at all from the start.
But Bottas's situation was different, he came from THE top team, he was totally exhausted mentally and he said many times how he enjoys driving for Alfa much better - there's less pressure, a weaker teammate, less media, less criticism, less expectations so when he joined there, he was very good in the first half of the season. Kimi also said that he felt better there because Alfa's a much quiter place. But after a few races I guess Bottas realized that that's already the end and probably the last team of his career, he'll never fight for bigger prizes again, so he started to care less and less, and spend more time doing other things - same as Kimi. And his teammate is very young, it's his second year, he's improving and he's still hungry, so he starts to beat Bottas.
I like Valtteri but tbh I would rather see Pourchaire on that car now, although after his phenomenal F4 and F3 performances, his F2 career is quite a disappointment so far.. Idk what happened with him, in F4-F3 he looked like the next Verstappen/Leclerc, he won championships while he was like 4 years younger than anybody else lmao.
For sure. He was never able to sustain any kind of performance, even when he was in THE “unbeatable” car. Good over a lap or a race, but nothing more. He’s the very definition of “it’s just the car”.
it’s almost like he’s lazy… like he’s happy to just keep going around and around, until the team gives home the flick. I don’t think he’ll be on the grid much longer. There’s too many good young drivers at the door.
There just isn't any pressure on him which just got him to slow down. After years of being strung along he got a home and got too comfortable. If Zhou can do a BIG 3rd year leap or mid year leap then I believe Bottas would come alive and consistently fight for points. In merc he was put under too much pressure while in Alfa he was put under no pressure.
I think Alfa just see him as a more matured driver and expect him to lead Zhou. Alfa is just waiting Audi to join the game.
@@vashsun4908 Audi will almost certainly change the lineup though.
Maybe Valtteri just isn't giving the effort because the car isn't there. Doesn't feel the effort to push for backmarker spots. Perhaps he just settles into the bad luck and pace of the car. No pressure either because the team has a good relationship with him.
@@mvd4436 Bottas can still fight for points and be a top midfield driver. I would argue he still has a chance to win a few more races before retirement. BUT him getting to a shit team with a shit car took away all his hunger. Being viewed as the no.1 for the first time since 2016 hit him too hard and now he doesn't do anything because the car is ass and his teammate doesn't challenge him. He's just there. Sorta like late career Kimi and Seb. There is no hunger. There is none of that will to fight left in him after being put under THAT much pressur eby merc.
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks That's what im saying he has no pressure on him to perform. So he just grabs a few pts and chills. Since Zhou really isn't challenging him that much.
Bottas has just ended FP1 fastest ... he must have taken that personally.
Who gives a fuck? Free practice means nothing
Seeing Valtteri's picture at the top of the times in FP1 at Canada today after watching this video was hilarious (yes, I know the circumstances that led to that in FP1). The picture F1 used with his little grin is such a vibe hahaha.
That Autosport Driver Rating is one of the worst things I've ever seen
Sainz at 16 is laughable….someone on their staff must have a vendetta against him
Stroll at 9 ahahaha
What season are they watching. XD
Also Hulk behind Kmag, Albon 17th, Zhou 13th 😂😂
I wonder if the pressure of the 1yr contract actually worked to Valteri's favour and brought the best out of him. He may be far too relaxed at the mo...
It certainly could be a motivation issue. Going from a dominant team at Mercedes to a midfield team like Sauber is an obvious step down. I'm sure he realizes he's probably never going to get a shot in a race winning car again and at his age I'd imagine that could result in him simply losing his competitive fire. Now that he's approaching his mid-30s it seems like he'd be happier in something like WEC or Indycar where he could fight for wins and championships in the years he has left as a driver.
We’ll probably see that next year then innit
nah the pressure of 1 year contracts, the pressure of competing for podiums and wins bring out the best in him, like when vetel retried he said if he thought the car would stay around. funnily it did but competing for 10th is hard.
I think Bottas is at the Kimi stage of his career, he has realized that his best chances were used to play second fiddle to #blessed, and he doesn't see a reason to put the effort in, especially since he is back in a midfield car again. Not only that, but he has been very helpful to Zhou, which I think was what he wanted to do since he sees the potential in him to be a great driver. Zhou has shown a lot of improvement within the last year and the fact that Bottas is supporting him instead of acting like he is the number one driver gives me the impression that was on purpose. I wouldn't be surprised that by the end of his contract, he retires and then becomes a professional biker, or enjoy another sport if he so chooses to.
Was Bottas ever as good as Kimi or #blessed tho?
@@tobi2970 How does this comment relate at all to what OP said? OP stated that Bottas is at the Kimi stage of his career, which pretty much means it's also becoming a hobby for Bottas just like it was for Kimi after leaving Ferrari
@@75ncv4hu9tg7 Fair enough, I was referring to the part where OP said that he was used to play second fiddle to #blessed.
I thought OP meant Bottas could have won a championship like Kimi, but because he had been taken advantage of by Mercedes, he's now lost his passion for the sport.
But upon researching it more, he was in fact used to play second fiddle to Hamilton. My bad.
@@tobi2970 Yes he was. From a very early point of 2018 Mercedes decided to not let Bottas fight with Hamilton. This combined with the 1 year contracts in the team actually destroyed Bottas mentally. He started having this obsession of a mindset to beating Lewis where he would struggle with an eating disorder, basically going to train with his trainer, and then doing the same workout again in secret from his trainer, removing his activity sports watch. Obviously not healthy at all and more harmful than useful. He came to terms with it later on and they're good friends with Hamilton but I think what happened killed him inside. Honestly people gave Bottas a bit too much shit for not being able to beat prime Hamilton. Even Rosberg admitted that he took the competition to almost an unhealthy level at the cost of his mental wellbeing. The reason why he retired after the 2016 season.
He realised he's not fast enough to be max and lacks the right skin colour to recieve the necessary favouritism with the pace he has.
My man, he's had car problems every single race he's done bad in. Floor damage, getting Russell'd by Albono after Bottas was having a good start. No problems, just classical Bottas luck.
I think that after the highs of being at Merc, the “comedown” to a team like sauber , has just taken its toll on his motivation. He’s an excellent driver, but maybe he should go do other things? Finns are notoriously good at driving absolutely anything. He, and he’s mullet, would kill in Aussi V8’s or even Indy!
Bottas for WRC or WEC
@@DefinitelyNotEmma second for WRC
Would love to see what he could do in Indycar. With his new persona he’d fit right in living in the States + would be a title contender right away
If he was an excellent driver, he would destroy Zhou easily. The guy should stop being a professional driver and enjoy his life instead of making a fool of himself.
As a big Indycar fan I'd like see him in that series but regardless I think he'd be happier elsewhere. He's 33 and has had a long F1 career that saw him winning race and it's peak. That's in the past now though and at his age he's probably never going to be in a car that's anywhere near that good again. Why not head to the US or sports cars and fight for wins and championships in the years he has left as a driver? I sure Penske, Ganassi, Andretti or McLaren would be happy to have him so he'd be stepping into a competitive Indycar right away.
Troll Valtteri: *gets P1 in FP1 immediately*
If Bottas is losing a tenth of a lap because of that mullet, I wonder how much time Giovinazzi was losing when he was driving for the team. Clearly it didn't affect him in Le Mans however, maybe Bottas should have a crack at it too

@@BanditoBurritoi believe russel is world champion material, but so is norris.
If it will happen we dont know
I think he is having the Vettel syndrome, his motivation just disappeared after being handled a backfield car. While Bottas is nowhere as close to acomplished in F1, he has been really good outside of it both in rallying and biking so maybe he's contemplating a change of carrer.
I’d say Bottas is more like Ricciardo who is a living meme. Vettel was still competitive and worked hard with Aston Martin until he retired.
I thought that this was josh revell when I saw the video title but another aldas vid does bring a smile to my face
How did we both have the same thought?😂😂 It did sound like a josh revell title
To me he was very noticable in Bahrain, where was fighting with Mercedes and Aston Martins and ended up finishing a solid P8. I have no idea what he did in the other races though...
People say he is in pressure at mercedes but maybe little bit of pressure sometime bring your best he is too chill
Hes got the raikkonen vibe now... Hes happy where he is and enjoys taking part. Im sure he has definitely helped Zhou evolve his skills and will leave if he gets bored
Thanks for the timely content. I have not seen Bottas’ presence at any races lately. I don't even have an impression of what his interviews have been like lately.🤔
Valterri is just going through what Vettel and Kimi went through. His head is gone from the sport.
Not a lack of ability at all but just the mental side of it in terms of getting the performance out of the car.
Just goes to show what it looks like when you are used to competing and winning and then go to a team that doesn’t have aspirations like that right now and look only to the future.
I believe Valterri has the talent because you never lose raw speed as a driver. It’s just the motivation to actually extract that speed if you know the best result we can get from a race is P14 - P18.
It’s a mentality thing. Drivers under pressure always perform well. They just need to be held accountable
Valtteri*
Being Likeable goes a long way particularly in the DTS era
I saw comments on Instagram after the Merc double podium finish saying it should be Bottas there not George
I find it hilarious that people think bottas could actually come from 12th to 3rd in that car considering he struggled doing that with the dominant Merc
Being likeable is the key to the last 3 years of Danny Ric's F1 career. Amazing how far you get with the fans on side.
Seriously? Wow people are ridiculous. I don’t know whether it’s because they like Bottas or are obsessed with finding a reason (no matter how ridiculous) to dislike George.
George sucks
I think Valtteri's priorities have changed. If you keep up with him all he posts about is cycling and only posts about racing when it's race weekend. For the rest you never see him do anything else motorsport related, it seems like he lost his passion for motorsport.
He posts plenty of days at the sim, are you mising those stories?
It's his job? Are you posting pictures of yourself at work?
Valterri Bottas in Alfa Romeo is much more beloved compared to suffering "Valterri its James" pain.
4:39 That happened to Antonio Giovinazzi in 2019 as well, Kimi was much better than him in the first half of the season (which was also when the car was better) and scored lots of points. After the summer break Giovinazzi was a lot closer to Kimi's level but the car had gotten worse and he didn't get to score many points.
Bottas took this personally in FP1
To be honest I think he’s just really gotten relaxed after leaving merc. And he’s definently way more happy in sauber. But I really does hope he starts putting more effort in.
I follow him on Strava, he uploads a lot of rides and is a regular race winner with several KOMs, his focus is in gravel bikes now, getting KOMs on tracks you barely know is insane, the guy is fit af. He is also sponsored by Canyon bikes btw.
As a fan of Bottas, it’s sad to see him fighting at the back of the grid. Even if it’s the car or Valtteri underperforming, I want to see the Valtteri of 2022 and show what he can actually do from race to race
Exactly, if not a championship winning car, he still can do wonders in the 3rd of 4th fastest car!
Sadly Nord VPN are in the group that if governments ask for the data, they will comply :/
There is no such thing as purchased VPN that will protect you from shady browsing anyways. All these VPN are just for dumb stuff like he adverts for in the video xD
@@Patrickk11😂😂😂
Bottas saw this and topped FP1 later that day to prove Aldas wrong 😤
I'm an Alfa Romeo fan since 2018, my first F1 merch is from the team. The time with Raikkönen was great and I was hyped as Bottas was annonced 2021. Start of 2022 was very good but the second half of 2022 and 2023 he just seems unmotivated, slow in both Qualifying and race. He has much more potential but I don't know whats going on so hope this viedo will show me
Im sorry but that opening just killed, that is too funny X'D I was not expecting that!
"If McLaren are still building absolute sheds"
Just about laughed my lung on the floor right here 🤣🤣
Bottas is really like Räikkönen in the final years of his career. Impressive in their first season with Alfa Romeo, and getting slower over time as the car got less competitive. The worrying thing is that Bottas is 10 years younger than Räikkönen.
"THATS UNFORTUNATE" LOL😂
It’s more like a hobby for him. He’s the new Kimi but less cameraphobic.
And not nearly as fast
Not 10% of end-of-career kimi.... and not even on the same planet as 2000-2008 kimi
Holy shit I really triggered the Kimi dickriders 😂 Calm down guys. Nobody cares.
He's ready to IndyCar tbh
Bottas looks fantastic right now. With over half of FP1 over, Bottas leads by a half second.
Correction, Bottas dominated the entire practice. He’s back!
It's the team itself. I have Zhou in my fantasy since race 1 and I always forget I even have him. Once i remember i start searching around p13 and I always find him quickly 😅 great value, despite being so easy to forget he's even there
He just got fastest time in FP1 though 😂😂👍
Dude is currently in F1 to make new helmets every race and disappear after that😂
Bottas 2023 : “Let me be clear”
As a Valtteri fan, I agree he hasn't been performing well the last few races but the car has been just bad.
His race pace isn't bad though.
It feels like every race he's either fighting for points and doing well or fighting right at the back and having a nightmare. Very inconsistent. He's pretty much a repeat of Kimi at Alfa Romeo in his last 3 years. Especially with how both of them started their first 1/2 year with Alfa scoring points regularly and then the car just falls off a cliff and they can't really do much with it anymore. Also both Finns and very chill and relaxed. The resemblance is almost uncanny.
Bottas saw ur video and remembered how to drive fr
VB just topped FP1, he saw this video and decided to start cooking😂
3:55 AHEAD of only Logan Sargeant.
Well, he's more relaxed now
Have a one year contract was probably the best thing Merc could have done to Bottas. Unless he's got a fire under his ass he just seems to fade into the background. Wouldn't be at all surprised if he retired after his contract, he doesn't seem inspired anymore
it's the mustache
Here after he went fastest in FP1👀
bro ive totally forgotten about him
simly put VB doesn't give a flying fuck anymore.
Man is always happy.
Wrong timing foo, he just went fastest in fp1 😤
I was wondering when someone would call this out. Noticed this awhile ago too, he seems pretty happy with his place in life right now but it’s definitely a unique situation.
I don't understand why he doesn't buy a subscription for NordVPN
Another factor that will put Bottas under pressure is the presence of F2 racer and Sauber junior (and Alfa reserve) Theo Pourchaire.
its so painfull to watch him drive around the track, alone and deadlast.. he was never in attack-mode, but this…… this is aweful
i still have faith in him ! valterri has it in him to get some good results , still can drive the wheels off the car. “to whom it may concern…”. to use his words .
For 2024 they should rename the team to Alfa Romale Sauber NORDVPN soon to be Audi F1 Team
Last year, Valtteri seemed energized and eager to fight for points. This year, from the very first race, he just doesn't seem to have that visible enthusiasm. It's almost as if something happened, or was said to him that stole his energy.
Could it be that the team had already told him that he won't be driving for them when Audi takes over?
Def not early in the season anymore
Really saw him in Canada
Zhou is a very underrated driver in my opinion
He has taken a Sabbatical, except he still shows up for work
P1 in FP1 today baby !
that sponsor introduction was so good i decidec to watch it lol. Maybe Valtteri really needs NordVPN?
And right on queue, he just smoked FP1 🤣🤣
Just wanna say that he also picked up damage in Saudi Arabia from the debris in the first lap.
both drivers are soooo invisible.. you can easily forget they are on the grid!
it's the curse of alfa romeo, first gio now bottas. they are both forgotten come like mid season lol
I disagree that he has no pressure. With drivers like Oliver bearman, Fredrick vesti, and theo pouchaire in f2. If bottas doesn't improve audi/sauber will definitely make a change especially ahead of the 26 season.
"McLaren building absolute shit!" Lol don't hold back now.
This the guy that lulu fans try to call competition
Bottas has the pace in qualy, can pull some fastest lap that other no2 like Checo couldn't.
However he got tamed well by Merc....
Who's lulu?
@@keonxd8918 a nickname for Hamilton
I lost in when I saw the title😭😭
To be honest, most of the times i don't even notice 2/3 of the grid... just not interested that part.
Welp Canada just happened and he showed he won't be invisible for the whole season
I feel like everybody always wants a driver like Valtteri, Kimi or Danny Ricc, to build teams up like some kind of Schumacher-eske doing magic. And even Michael didn't made magic he was amazing but he had a great team to match his talent. So I would wait and see.
You should make a video On Logan Sargeant's season so far. I would like to hear you're opinion on how he's doing so far
Saudi Baku Spain all three were Alpha Romeo masterclasses in terms of strategies. In Australia he got unlucky and let's not forget in Baku the team made the car setup as tyre shreeder. I mean you don't need to hear me just look at the onboards. After lap 6 the hards were literally torn apart
Who's here after he scored a point at the Canadian GP?
The alfa is simply trash tier this season. He doesn't have the car to show much more.
I would be concerned if i was at Audi. Sauber is not looking like a team capable of competing for world titles in a few years.
I hope i get to see him on other car and i really hope its the car but there is allways multiple factors involved. also H2H stats aint that bad for VB anymore:
Race: VB 12-7 ZG
Qualifying: VB 12-6 ZG
I think he's just really into his bike racing now.
merc cars really flattering him back in the day
There's no difference in finishing 11 or 20 cuz No points 😮
Just name that Yuki Tsunoda Symdrom the Mick schumacher symdrom that fits lore😂😂😂
First thing I am missing is his old hairstyles
I hope you asked Josh nicely lol
Somehow got this recommended right after he got P1 in FP1(albeit an early redflag, so it's not fair), and P7 in FP2(this time ahead of the Redbull of Perez, but their poor performance so far is another issue all together)
He doesn't care anymaore and seems to be just waiting for the audi take over to start trying again.
Maybe its just Alfa Romeo is much worse than last year?
What more do you expect him to do? Zhou was already very close to him second half last year, dont think he can ever destroy Zhou again
He’s just hangin out
It's obviously the moustache.
People need to notice context and if you look at every race weekend the amount of bad luck he has had is mental
He’s brought up extending his contract more often after the Audi news, but I would bet he’s never driving an Audi F1 car
He went to alfa and became giovinazzi
He's given up on F1. He will spend decades in endurance if he wants to.
It's extremely difficult to see how Bottas is doing the season that he does, not adding as he should add to the team, simply being there for having a Rating of 87 in the F1 23 game while other drivers who are really being more useful and best, are with ratings of 88, 89.
I do t know why he ended up at Alfa? I would have thought he would be hot property for Mclaren or Alpine
